Aug 2002 Basic, old facilities but enough. Party atmosphere, great setting, not regimental like most sites. cheap and cheerful and we always have a fab time at this site! Fab views over Grizedale. Easy drive to Ambleside.

August 2003 Have to agree with Miles` review (Aug 2003). A huge camp site with an inadequate and grubby toilet block. No views of the beautiful surrounding area and little regard for the "no noise after 11pm" rule. If you want somewhere quieter and tidier, go to Glastonbury.

August 2003 I have to agree with some of the comments from Miles. The toilet block, only 1 to cater for several hundred campers, wasn't very clean; the showers worked with great difficulty and you had to pay 50p! There was a lack of toilet paper too!
The site staff withing the office were quite rude at times, not even giving the name of the camp site when answering the phone. You pitched your tent wherever you could find a decent spot, when we arrived there, we struggled to find an acceptable spot; eventually finding one after driving round for 10 minutes because the site was full to capacity! The last downside was that the site was very noisy; ideal for families, but not for romantic camping for couples.
On the plus side, it was situated adjacent to lake Conniston, a very beautiful spot, the shop had flexible opening hours and it was only a 20 minute walk into Conniston centre with its pubs, shops, etc.... I would only come back here if they opened up another toilet block, and somehow manage to silence the sheep!

August 2003 All the reviews for this site are very favourable and give the impression that Coniston Hall is for everyone.
I'm afraid my friends & I hated it. Its far too big and has no views of the lake as its totally screened by trees. The showers barely work and the toilet blocks looked like they hadn't been updated since 1980.
When we rang the owners about booking they were rude and insisted on no groups of blokes and were fussy about ages. When we got there it was full of large groups of lads drinking all day!
The fact there are no other decent sites anywhere nearby lets the owners get away with this which is made worse by customers thinking its OK.
The lack of proper pitches is a disaster, we had a group of idiots next to us who thought camping 12 inches away from my tent would add to the fresh air and getting away from it experience! This is not Glastonbury, its a National Park. Quite a different thing.
Anyway, if you don't mind small children doing No 2's in the streams and don't want to sleep for 48 hours then its ideal.

Past Three Years Good clean site, plenty of room pitch were you like. Clean showers etc. Small shop for forgottens and gas. Away from road so very quiet short 10 min walk to nearest pub and 15 - 20 walk to village. Good base for mountain bikers and lake access for canoes, Windsurfing is ok in North or Southerly Wind Directions. Usally appear evrey year for a few days away...

June 2003 First visit to this site, The walks & views are great. The site its self is well situated for boaters & walkers alike, The facilities are basic but well looked after & theres a shop on site for those bits & pieces you forgot to pack. Theres the Ship Inn 10 mins brisk walk away for good food & beers! & Coniston itself is only 15 mins away with a small selection of shops & treditional Inns, Over all a good friendly site.

Last 2 years Our favourite campsite in the Lake District. What sight could be better to wake up to than the view of Lake coniston (with Grizedale Forest in the background) or the view of the Lakeland fells overlooking Coniston village with the smell of breakfasts cooking.
It is a basic but functional site in a rural setting on the west banks of Lake Coniston with toilets, hand wash basins, showers, electic shaver points, pot washing and laundry washing/drying facilities.
Stand pipes are dotted around the site for fresh water. No electric hookups though. You can Pitch your tent where you wish and it's a great base for walking, boating or exploring further a field.
It has a small on site shop for things you may have forgotten or run out of (open from 08:00 to 20:00).
Coniston village is a 15 minute walk away (nice scenery along the walk)with plenty of shops, eating areas and, more importantly, Pubs!
If you're like me and prefer the rural setting and fed up with regimental style pitching areas then this sites for you.
Highly Recommended.

Several Times We have visited this camp on several occasions over the past five years and have found it to be a good family site. It has a basic but always functional shower and toilet block. It is only a short stroll to the village of Coniston and has access to gentle walks along the lakeside.

Past 3 years We have been to this site for the past 3 years for long weekends. It is a good base for touring the district. It also has a great pub nearby and all the camoers we met ther have been friendly. We will be returning again this summer!
