We were told the site was very busy but we should find a space anywhere we could and pitch (and boy was it busy-we had trouble finding a space big enough for our 4 man tent!). We were very grateful for what felt like 'any port in a storm' but by the end of the weekend we were pleased to have found this site.
The location at the edge of Coniston water was superb and it was a 15 minute pleasant walk into Coniston.
Despite the fact that the site was incredibly busy, we were amazed to find that the toilet & shower block, although basic was always clean. Our only complaint was that it cost 50p for a shower and our money was swallowed twice without activating the shower, which was annoying.
However we will definitely visit again based on excellent location and ok facilities

We arrived at the campsite mid afternoon on the Saturday and went in to the reception to see if there was any space.
The site was good, in a lovely location and the pitches are spacious and flat although the ground is very hard for putting pegs in. The facilities are basic but adequate and the price per night was also as cheap as you would find in the area.
One problem is that there doesn't seem to be a cut off time for entering the site and cars were still coming onto the site, making noise and putting tents up around midnight.
I would probably go back if I needed somewhere to stay but wouldn't go out of my way to make a return visit.

Lovely location next to Coniston Water and only a 15 minute walk to the village.
However, the facilities are basic and when you find the toilet/shower block, it's 50p a shower. Twice it took my money and delivered no water, but I managed to get a refund from the shop both times.
Seems to get busy at weekends and due to the boggy area's, people have to camp close together.
On our last night we had a load of army cadets turn up about 11pm and by the time they finished hammering the tent pegs in and generally being noisy, it was gone 1am. They were dotted all over the camp and were running around getting each other up making lots of noise at 6:45 am. When we emerged from our tent we found that one group of them had set their tents and gazebo's within 2 or 3 feet of our tent surrounding it.
Despite there being signs saying 'No Gazebos' and 'No Camp fire's', not many people seemed to abide these rules, which not only took up much needed tent space but was also dangerous as the tents were so close together. It was more like a festival than a campsite.
Earlier in our stay was nice but I would advise phoning before, instead of just turning up, to check if any large groups have booked in.

Visited for the 3rd time this bank holiday weekend. Unfortunately the weather was against us, after 2 weeks of constant rain the campsite was a mud bath. We were in the bottom cattle field, only really passable with a 4 x 4, as mud a foot deep in places, site very water logged also!
However, site was great, toilets were kept clean. (hard job with amount of mud) and showers were hot and plentiful. Small shop selling bits and pieces and friendly staff.
Coniston location is fab, shops restaurants and co - op within a mile. Food at Harry's wine bar in coniston good, or try nearby Torver for good pub / restaurants.
Shame about the weather, but I would recommend the site after it has dried out. Although it is informal and a bit lively at times, suits me down to the ground.

Couldn't find a campsite to book into this bank holiday weekend, so we just turned up here. Not the best campsite I've ever stayed on but it served a purpose. The toilet block were clean but very basic. As for noise we did not hear anything other than people talking and laughing, no loud music at all. The only real negative was that we were charged for two nights when we were only staying the one.

After arriving at the site Monday evening it resembled a music festival campsite. I estimate around 300 350 tents on the field each one no more than a couple of meters apart. There had been some rain and the ground was very boggy in places. The owners seemed to have crammed as many people into the site as possible even letting people pitch next to signs which state no camping on this area. The site itself had rules but nobody really enforced them. The toilet block is not centrally located and the people camped next to us preferred to drive to it even at half past three in the morning waking everybody up.
Good points
Very nice location set alongside Lake Coniston Very quiet and relaxing site during the day Massive site
Development points
The shop is more like a trade counter. You cant browse only ask for what you want. Ground is quite boggy with a little rain and takes a long time to dry out Toilet block is old and in need of modernisation Earliest it got quiet was half past midnight Only 6 showers in male block, with 8 toilets 50p shower lasts between 2 minutes and 5 minutes depending which one is used. Nowhere to hang clothes in shower cubicle No soap for washing hands Needs better signage or a map of where things like water taps, bins and toilets are. Grass needs cutting Needs electric hookup and marked pitches.
As a whole the site is in need of some modernisation. It looks like it was set up in the late 80s and hasnt had anything done since. All signs are hand written. The owners have not made much use of what they naturally have. With a bit of work the site could be a bit more level and is in need of an extra shower and toilet block, as when its busy, expect to queue. The site is better suited to larger groups and people who dont mind lots of noise at night. Not what we expected for the price we paid.

We arrived late on Sunday on advice of owners to avoid weekends - our aim was to stay for the week. Unfortunately the weather was awful and the site had a lot of flooding by the middle of the week - so we only stayed three days.
The site is in a beautiful setting with lots of amenities nearby but we didn't think the owners had made much of what they naturally had at the site. The shower block/toilets were dirty and needing upgraded and a better system for charging for the showers - my 50p disappeared into the slot without any trace of the shower working!
The site is very noisy - it eventually got quiet by 2.30 am - the groups around the site deciding to turn in by then but we were awoken again at 6.30am by the extended family next to us and their brood. Presumably the adults in that group thought we all needed to wake up with them and Radio Cumbria.
The ground is very hard - even with flooding - so you will need a mallett and extra heavy duty tent pegs.
All in all not likely to return despite beauty - too noisy, not well maintained and quite a disappointment especially after the down to earth nature and helpfulness of the owner

We go to Coniston Hall campsite every year and are counting down to our next trip on 1st July (in 5 weeks!)
We have read some not so good reviews and would just like to say that we love the place. Its perfectly situated in a lovely spot just a short walk to Coniston. The lake is beautiful and the ground are fine. The toilets and showers are good and the shop is good too.
We love the fact that this site is the only one that accept groups of people camping together, and allows you to stay up and have a drink and some fun. I would camp elsewhere if we were going to have a quiet family weekend away. We love the fact that we can relax and not worry about speaking too loud after 10pm, please don't moan about how noisy it is! this is the only campsite that allows this.

Positives
- Only 1 mile away from the pubs and shops in Coniston
- For walkers, the mountain Old Man Coniston is easily accessible
Negatives
- Very large campsite more suited to large groups or those wishing to use the lake rather than couples or families.
- Was noisy until the early hours of the morning
- Camped their over a sunny weekend, was anticipating it to be busy but the amount of tents that were crammed in was ridiculous, I estimate 300 or more tents
- Due to the sheer number of tents their was very little room for children to play.
- Unfriendly, unhelpful staff
- Very basic facilities in desperate need of modernisation.
- Lots of litter around
- Campsite needs to invest in a lawn mower!
Will not be returning

Just returned from a great weekend. We are virgin campers (this is only our second weekend away) but had a great time. It's in a lovely spot away from the main road and right on the lake, although you can't camp next to the lake.
We were quite close to the toilet block, which we thought was good, til 2-3am in the morning when the 'groups' decided to loudly pass our tent. We'll learn!.
Toilets and showers were very clean (50p for what I thought was a long very hot shower).
It would have been nice for somewhere to kick a ball about, but it was very busy.
About 20 mins stroll to Coniston, with its small shops and pubs.
It cost £24 for 3 adults and 1 child, tent and car. I assume this is about normal??
Definitely will go back, just want to experience a few different campsites so I can compare.
