Highlight of visit, with it being a working farm, sheep and cattle being heared throught the campsite what a nice site. Thanks for a great time (brian and carolyne) Hope to see you in September if not March for the 14

We visited this campsite over the bank holiday weekend. It was very busy but this very large campsite seemed to cope with this very well. The toilets were clean and always stocked up with loo roll - bonus, but at peak times you had to wait for the showers which were 50p a go. The ground was hard/rocky at about 2-3 inch's depth so take a mallet and some good pegs although on the surface it was soft. Noise didn't seem to be a problem it quietened down at about half ten and by eleven it was almost quiet (not bad going for a packed bank holiday!) with just one or two noises after that. A good off the road path takes you into the village (10 Min's) where you can get supplies, a meal and most important of all a pint. All in all a good well priced campsite in a good location but the size and the volume of people there made it a little less personal and more like a festival

My best mate and I visited this campsite last week as an alternative to the Park Coppice Caravan Club Site - which is just up the road (but was booked solid). My general impression of this site was very good. Above the campsite entrance the beautiful Old Man of Coniston towers and is visible from much of the grounds. Showers are still 50p a shot but careful which shower you choose - get one with a push button these seem to last longer as you can keep pushing the button for more water – even some of these seem temperamental. I suggest taking two 50p’s to make sure you’re not left with soap in your hair and eyes with no more water!
There is a small shop on site that seems to stock all the essentials, but the town centre is only 10min walk – they have Co-op, Spar etc The toilets were clean and well stocked with loo paper and there was plenty of hand wash basins and washing up facilities. The site was pretty full when we visited (mon – thu) and noise levels were low on an evening. Our only gripes were with the pubs of Coniston – all seemed a little dull with not much life in them, although the ales were generally very good indeed. In retrospect we wished we had gone to Ambleside for our nightlife as it is a larger place with more variety. The walk back from Coniston town to the campsite on a night-time was lovely and not too long (about 10 min). Because the site is so close to Coniston’s water edge (literally 2 min) we found it was an ideal site for those that like to stay up a little later. My friend and I took a few beers, mp3 and speakers, guitar and cigarettes down to the waterside each night and found (without making any excessive noise) it was ideal for a chilled evening under some awe inspiring starry skies! It’s just the right distance so as not to disturb other campers. Unless your car alarm randomly goes off at 2am as you are returning to your tent – as ours did – very embarrassing indeed… Food in and around Coniston was generally good, we ate at the Ship Inn, very near the campsite – it was a pleasant meal but certainly not exceptional with a very dowdy interior to boot. On our last day we climbed Old Man of Coniston which is easily accessible (just find the ‘Sun Inn’). I would certainly recommend giving this a climb – quite hard work but the views are breathtaking. All in all I think this site offers as much as you’d expect and, with the views so stunning and Coniston water so close, a little more. Highly recommended.

The site was great even though it was really busy, the woman in the shop was really friendly and helpful on our arrival. The loos were always clean and well stocked. The rain was extremely heavy but the ground seemed to be ok. Did loose a couple of hours sleep due to noisy tents and barking dogs (we do have a dog of our own and make an effort to keep him quiet) . I would however recommend this site as it is a lovely location and nice and close to Coniston but would think about using it at a less busy time

This campsite certainly has the perfect setting - it is right on Lake Coniston and only a short walk into the village. The Lake provides lots of fun, be it swimming, paddling or on inflatables and Coniston itslef has several pubs and small shops.
The facilities on site are clean and there are plenty of them - showers cost 50p each.
The campsite is fairly big - but it seems there is no limit to the number of campers permitted on site. In the height of Summer it felt very crammed in, with people pitching virtually on top of each other. There was also lots of noise both late at night and early in the morning.
I would definitely stay here again - but only outside the main holiday season.

Excellent campsite. Small but friendly run shop that stocks all essentials. They freeze your ice packs overnight for 10p each. There are plenty of clean toilets. Showers cost 50p but the water doesn't stay on constantly, you have to keep pushing the button in. 10 min walk into Coniston which is a lovely town with at least one pub. Most places like Ambleside and Grizedale only a short drive away. The campsite is set on Coniston Waters, which you can swim in or take an inflatable boat on. Loads of fun. I must admit the weather was absolutely gorgeous so that makes camping a lot more fun. Highly recommend this site and I would definitely go again.

Went with a mixed group of middle aged friends. Location was superb, lovely views, nice cold lake etc. Facilities were clean and modern, however very busy and had to learn to be patient or visit at obscure times.
MAIN problem was the noise we stayed Friday and Saturday nights and in total had about 6 hours sleep. Inconsiderate people - first night - teenagers, second night middle aged people, partying until 4am in the morning. We had to have a word with youngsters as they showed no sign of going to bed.
Would go again, but not on a weekend or main holiday period.

Very big site, nice and grassy with lots of interesting nooks and crannies to camp on. The ground's hard but manageable and the bogs are nice and clean and regularly serviced. The site itself you can't fault. It's also surrounded by woods and it's a very short walk through a line of trees to get to the lake - although the one access point we found had a really steep little stony / earth banking down to it which one of us fell on. Since it's proximity to the lake is one of it's main features, you'd have thought they'd have made a bit of an effort to make it so the zillions of campers who come here don't kill themselves getting to the lake. Anyhow, the shores of the lake are pebbly and it's lovely and shallow at the edges - our tiddler had a hoot in the shallows! The reviews everyone's put in the site are bang on really - it's a big site but there's always one or two noisy tents. Ours were scally families who seemed to have come camping with the intention of screaming obscenities at their kids. Couldn't help siding with the kids - If I was one of their's i'd have been misbehaving too! So to sum up - it's a lovely setting, very busy but tolerable, hard ground, obligatory grumpy campsite owner, few shouty/noisy tents - but the sun came out, we drank ale, swam all day and had a top time. I'd recommend it but suggest you take an airhorn with which to deal with your noisy neighbours (walking into their midst blaring an airhorn usually does the trick :-)

We visited last year and had a good time. Rather rocky so you will need good tent pegs! The lady answering the telephone was rather abrupt. She did not say the name of the campsite and was not very helpful. I actually called last night to enquire about electric hook ups as this site states that they are available, only be told that they do not have any on the site. The site does have a large amount of teenagers who are on outward bound courses and some can be quite noisy, but don't let that put you off - they're not all like it

Stayed at this campsite on saturday night with my girlfriend; it was the night of a world cup game, so it was understandably very busy! Found this site after trying others which were full. Cost £11 for two ppl 1 tent 1 night, £5 deposit (returned).
Overall we had a great stay, we loved the campsite, the only problem being certain inconsiderate campers!
I thought the site was very good, excellent views of (and next to) Coniston Water and the hills, and plenty of trees (it was also the hottest day of the year!). Coniston, boat trips, pubs etc. just a short walk away.Toilet block was clean, always stocked with loo roll, no queues morning and eve, hot showers. Even when busy.
We expected it to be fairly noisy, so we camped as far away as possible from the other tents, as we needed sleep! We found a _great_ spot, a small glade which was out of the way, and in the shade. There was still plenty of room even after the site was full.
The only real problem was 2 groups "raving" until at least 1am (fell asleep before they stopped, not sure if anyone stopped them!). To be fair they were quite far from the main area but the music was really loud. Other than this, everyone was considerate, even though most people had been watching the match and were fairly drunk!
So in general the only problems we found were not with the campsite! Also, on Sunday night (when we were packing up), it was almost empty.
We'll definitely return, but at a less busy time.
