We spent four nights here (Wednesday to Saturday) and I can honestly say that noise was a big issue. As stated in previous reviews there were groups of late night noisy drinkers who kept up a loud running commentary until at least 2am. A stag party arrived on Friday night which was the worst.
Having said that, I have camped here several times before as I love being so close to the lake and the great views. The toilet block is extremely clean and well kept, which is a big plus.
To avoid the noise and constant swearing I would recommend that those after a bit of peace and quiet go during the week and avoid weekends at all costs. However if you are after a late-night party then go for the weekend - I never saw anybody being asked to be quiet and it looks like you can pretty well do what you want, until as late (or early!) as you want.

We visited Coniston Hall several times last year and had a great time.
The facilities, (toilet/shower block), are great, they are kept clean throughout the day.
You get the odd over noisy people but the owners of the site deal with them once they are made aware
The site is right on the side of the lake and is ideal for canoeing which is why we go.
Highly recommended but be prepared for mud if it rains for more than a couple of hours

My boyfriend and I and our dog Barney have visited this site a couple of times and love it!
We are going back this weekend - weather permitting.
Its a large site in an ideal location. Next to lake Coniston it provides a beautiful setting, ideal for walking the dog and for those people who enjoy water sports.
The site is cheap and cheerful.
Its a 'camp where you like site' - it gets busy but we have always found somewhere to camp.
Coniston village is nearby where there are several country pubs and village shops.
Some negatives.
As the site is so large and there is only one toilet block it can be a bit of a trek if you cant pitch near the toilet block.
Toilet block is very basic but gets cleaned regularly.
In some areas the ground is extremely hard so hard to get tent pegs in.
At the height of summer, take some midgie spray as there are a lot of midgies as it's next to the water.
I'd say the camp is idea for couples and younger families and groups. Although I've never seen any bad behaviour, it's so popular it can be a bit noisier than smaller sites. Its a more chilled out site.

In good weather, this is an excellent base. Previous reviewers have got it right. The ground is generally hard and difficult to get pegs in. If you have a large tent with multiple guy ropes you are in for a tough time. The showers are basic but adequate but make sure you are barely dressed before going as there is very little to place or hang your clothes, shoes or towels on. The shop is basic and not a browsing type. You have to know what you want and then ask for it. Other reviewers say that the walk to the town takes only 15 minutes, if you are a marathon runner, maybe! Allow 30 minutes especially if you are camped well into the site. 20 mins to the nearest pub (the Ship Inn) In wet weather the place becomes a Glastonbury and it's a long walk to the town to get somewhere dry. At night there is often trouble with noise but if you are suitably anaesthetised you barely notice it. Families may have a tougher time getting some peace.
More of a party-goers site, but if you accept that limitation then it's very scenic, cheap and lovely down by the lake, but only in good weather. Good for bikers too.

We have been going to this site for ten years, two or three times per year, its a great site, in a great location next to the lake and very close to the village and its lovely pubs!
The ground is fairly rocky and in most places not very flat and when it rains then the site becomes very muddy and waterlogged (we've was there in easter 07 when it snowed and the gale force winds flattened our tent and me,my oh, my nephew and dog all slept in the back of the van, ahh happy days!)
But we return year after year because it was the best in my opinion for our needs as we liked to be by the lake or in it! they allow 'off the ground' fires, dogs and are a little lax on where you can camp and as long as you are fairly quiet after 12, then the site owners are ok, caroline's a lovely women who takes no trucking if you flout he rules, but does her upmost to help you if you don't!

Have been to this site many many times.
Previous years have been great. You expect the noise it comes with the volume & you live with it. Yes the location makes up for that. The toilets I have always found good especially considering the volume.
However no Gazebo's
Coniston Hall is a great site. But I think they will put off a lot of peaceful regulars if they don't stick to targeting the loud ones only. We have gone as a group for over 5yrs, next year sadly will be somewhere else.

Just come back from a few days at Coniston hall, go here all the time, plan to go somewhere else but always end up here. Found it really cheap £6 per person per night £2 for the car, where could you go for £14 a night.
Great view, weather not to good but nice when we was there, but what do you expect this is England.
Shower block was cleaned about 4/5 time per day, always toilet paper (so if you forget yours there is always some)
Shop on site fairly cheap, very friendly staff,
They asked a rowdy party of lads to leave in the morning as they had made too much noise to late at night as a lot of complaints was made about them. So the staff do listen to other campers and they act on this.
Pubs very expensive, £3.40 for pint of Fosters, in the Bull and £3 in the Crown, so it might be cheaper, if you are a family to go to the Crown.
I will be going back to this site, completely recommended to everyone, it is a must

- Very large site with large areas of flat ground for pitches.
- Lake very close and nice scenery.
- £14 per night.
- Was very busy when we were there, a bit too much so for my liking.
- Shops, restaurants, amenities within walking distance.
- Small shop on site.
- Toilet and shower block a long long way from our pitch, and shower 50p a go.
- Has small landing area/beach adjoining lake.

The two of us (a couple 28ish) spent two nights at Coniston Hall over the weekend.
Of the four campsites we have visited recently this has been the least pleasant.
THE GOOD: There were plenty of showers and toilets in the block. It was in a nice bit of the Lakes and was close to a nice walk about Lake Coniston. £27.50 for two nights for each couple with tent, plus a five pound bond for the key is not to bad for the Lakes.
NOT SO GOOD: It was huge, this meant the shower and toilet block was quite a walk away. There was no soap, hand towels/dryers or other such niceties. The site was not very flat and quite swampy in bits (not the best in the Lakes). There were some rules given but no attempt to enforce them. There was a couple that spent the whole two days yelling at their children and others that drank and yelped much of the night. The lady at the front seemed disinterested and not particularly helpful.
Tolerable, but not looking to go back. My opinion and experience, Cheers

Spent Friday and Saturday nights here - very busy.
You are able to book so no idea why reviewer below had problems.
Site is just a field - no taps or elec anywhere except up at the single toilet block which is showing its age a bit.
Price a bit steep for the standard of facilities. They could at least put soap dispensers in the sink area. Also showers are very short for 50p and do not have any shelves or enough hooks or areas to leave things to keep dry. Not as good as other sites we have been to which charge less.
Were kept awake by noisy campers till 4.30am so not everyone considerate enough to abide by the 'quiet by 11.00 pm' rule.
Having said that, the setting is beautiful. If you are camped near the entrance its about 10 mins walk to nearest pub (Ship Inn) and 15 mins to Coniston itself. If you are at the far end of the field add 5 mins to that.
