We have just returned from 1 week stay on this lovely site.
We had one of the pitches for Awnings which you do have to pay that little bit extra for but well worth it, as you are at the back of the site beside the stream and sheltered somewhat from the ever changing weather, also, with your own water supply and drainage.
The facilities are spotless with, a first for us, showers and hairdryers free.
We only visited the pub once but it was nice and the food good and only 5 minute walk away.
I would just reiterate that the area and walks are lovely as well as a local bus service to take you into Keswick if a romantic meal was called for without taking your car!
We will definitely be paying this site another visit.

Owned by the same people who run the much busier Scotgate Holiday Park, this site was a real surprise. Having booked the Bridges based on reviews on this website, we were a little concerned when we had to report to the Scotgate reception to settle up before being directed to the Bridges. Scotgate was heaving with people.
So you can imagine our surprise when we turned up at Bridges (about 800m away) to find an almost empty site. Probably no more than 20 tents in fields that could easily accommodate something approaching 80.
The facilities are a little dated but given the lack of pressure from hordes of people, there was plentiful hot water and no queues for the (free) showers. If you want quiet, this is the best bet. If you need an on-site shop, cafe and TV room then go to Scotgate.
Braithwaite itself has 3 pubs, 2 of which also act as hotels. The nearest is just off the A66 on the village side of the road while the conventional pub is just up from Scotgate. The third is a little trickier to find being at the back end of the village. The one on the A66 is CAMRA listed and the real ale was top class (as was the food) - probably best to book a table at weekends as it seemed popular with locals.
We were using the site as a base for walking and undertook the Coledale Horseshoe (and some other peaks) straight off the camp site so no need to use the car.
We would certainly return.

Visited here over the May bank holiday weekend. Tried to book Scotgate but unfortunately could not. I was however offered a booking for their over spill site of Braithwaite.
The main thing for my wife and I is clean toilets and showers !
Having seen the standard of facilities at Scotgate I asked how Braithwaite compared, lady was honest and said not quite as good but still good and she was not wrong, the are more than adequate.
There was some small queues for showers at busy times but nothing to complain about. Water was pre set for temperature, it was hot enough and free.
The site was clean and tidy with bins emptied daily there are enough available not to be overflowing before being emptied. The site is very quiet on an evening and is very peaceful and relaxing
There is no set pitches its a matter of find a spot and site your tent. Granted the weather was poor during our visit but there was loads of space between tents so you didn't feel on top of each other.
Keswick is an easy walk for supplies and nearest pub is 5 mins to the village itself
We will definitely be re-visiting this site over the coming months.

Fantastic!
Wont repeat other reviews. Its easy to find. Longer units be careful as you turn into the site. All you need to know is its clean, the location is superb, everything works and the staff are helpful. Keswick is nearby for anything you need.
There are beautiful walks right from the site as well as all the classic walks nearby. Shop on site has most things you might need including all the papers.
Cant think of much if anything I don't like other than tents cant book ( my sister and brothers qnd families would have come up if they could have booked)
Pitch up. Make a brew and watch the weather change over Skiddaw every 15 minutes

We have been to this campsite a few times and it's the best site we've been to. Although you can't book, so it is sometimes hard to get a pitch. There is no pitch management it's basically find a spot.
The facilities are 5 star. Underfloor heating in the toilet block, approx 16 toilets in the ladies about 6 showers, all large, with pegs to hang your clothes and a bench to sit on. Loads of sinks and mirrors, hairdryer (20p) and hand dryers. Always kept clean.
There is a pot washing room with 4 sinks with hot water. A drying room for your clothes etc. A well stocked shop, cafe. Its always a busy site with tents crammed on. Walking distance to several good pubs in Braithwaite. 5 mins in the car to Keswick. Loads of walks can be started from the campsite.

Just recently returned from a long weekend at this campsite, the site itself is very flat and quite large and not to Packed even over a bank holiday. We got a good pitch and the price was reasonable too.
Although all seemed well at first, it soon became apparent that there were a few things that need sorting on the site. For 3 out of the 4 days the showers (to which there are only 3) where cold, even after we informed someone working for the site!
The day the shower wasn't cold it was Luke warm at best! The pot washing facilities are not really adequate for the amount of people on the site.
The site is however fairly close to a very decent pub and only 30 min walk to Keswick which is ideal. I think if the underlying problems are sorted it would be a very good site but at present is let down slightly.

Ideally placed for fledgling walkers, as ourselves, and the more discerning walker. The campsite has stunning views of the surroundings and Skiddaw – a challenge for the hardiest of walkers in the winter months. We stayed for 4 nights, with the site getting busier come the weekend, because of the influx of walkers. Keswick is a 40 minute walk and is a lovely little town with all the amenities you’d expect.
The facilities of the site are the best we have encountered – the sanitary block was second to none – hot showers and very clean and modern. The shop was closed, but it was out of season. Braithwaite has a small village shop and a couple of nice pubs.
The cost of the site was very reasonable; however wi-fi was prohibitively expensive – costing more for 10 hours than you’d pay for a month at home!

We spent a weekend at this excellent campsite in January.
Facilities are top class. You're unlikely to find better. Prices were OK too, being winter, at about £18 per night for a camper with electricity. Shop and cafe closed with it being the quiet season.
Locally, Braithwaite has two good pubs and a little shop. Kesick is a couple of miles away. The walking from Braithwaite is excellent - the Coledale Horseshoe starts from the village and Whinlatter and Bassenthwaite are also easily accessible.

If Carlsberg made a caravan site then this would be it.
The setting is magnificent - described by another reviewer as 'imposing' and we wouldn't disagree. The site is in an ideal place for the fell walking, and we consider some of the best walks in the Lake District are to be found either on the doorstep or quite close by.
We were able to book one of the few pitches where an awning can be erected, and were greeted on arrival by two very fit young men, looking more as if they were used to lugging Herdwick sheep into the back of tractor trailers, who walked us to our pitch, unhitched the van and easily pushed it into place. What service!
The Reception staff are perfectly lovely - very friendly and helpful. The cafe is good, and the shop seems well stocked - and open quite late. The pub just up the road in Braithwaite village is only a few minutes walk away, and serves excellent food although it's very busy on a Saturday night - booking advisable.
The best bit though is the walk in, underfloor heated, showers. They are simply superb - no other sites we have been to come anywhere near.
I could happily move to this site 52 weeks of the year. I know the weather can be bad, and judging by other reviews those staying in tents can have a rough time. There may also be some issues about being too close together. However, the caravans are around the edge of the site on hard standing with hedges behind us so we are better placed to withstand the trials and tribulations of the Lake District at its worst.
Scotgate will undoubtedly become our regular Lake District holiday site - for us it's the complete package.

Spent one night at this site. It is a huge, commercial site. Facilities are very modern and spotlessly clean. On site there is a s shop and cafe, but the food is much better in the pub in Bassenthwaite village, and better value too.
Some of the site staff are not very well mannered, but they guy that sorted my pitch was a great fellow.
Location of the site is great, with fantastic walking opportunities right from the door.
I'd return to the site, but not in a hurry. There are better sites in the area and at much better value - we were charged £22 per night for two people.
