We normally go camping in tents and this was our first trip in a campervan and our 4th night at a different site. Although out of season everything was open and available to use. We found the site to be clean, friendly, organised and in a excellent location.
The shower and toilet block was immaculate and the under floor heating was welcomed considering the weather. There is a pub up the road called the Royal Oak that is friendly and serves nice food. We will recommend this site to others.

Sunday afternoon, just got back from Scotgate after a 10 day stay. Absolutely brilliant! We have endured all sorts of weather, torrential rain, gale force winds, frost snow and some blue skies and sunshine.
Unlike some sites we have visited in October half term, we felt here we nicely sheltered from the strong winds. All members of staff that we encountered were courteous, friendly and helpful. Good level pitches and lovely and wide for van, awning and car. Possibly the best shower block we have come across.
Just a few minutes walk to The Royal Oak in Braithwaite village where there is a good welcome, a real fire and good food at good prices.
We love it and we'll be back as soon as possible.

Just completed a two night stay at the beginning of Oct 2012 and overall, feel that this is an excellent site for campers and tourers.
Every single one of the reception staff and support staff were friendly, courteous and genuinely helpful. Couldn't have had better service. They also seem to take an active part in their community asking for recycling materials to help support local projects and had all the right bins behind the site to sort out waste.
The camping fields were still a little boggy so the staff helped with a walkaround to pick the best place to pitch, and left it as free choice on where to set up. Couldn't see any numbered pitches but it was a quiet time and no problems with getting enough space around the pitch. Around the edge were the hook ups for motorhomes / tourers and these seemed to have plenty of space around them.
The Toilet/Shower block was out of a 5 star hotel, underfloor heating, tiled throughout and spotless surfaces made it really impressive. The only downside was the lack of electric points in the ladies for hair products and only one wired-in hairdryer which takes some form of token or money. The separate pot wash and saniwaste was equally spotless and also had a heated underfloor, which was much welcome when the temperature dropped below zero!
There wasn't a child's play area that I could see, and although dogs are accepted at a minimal extra charge, there isn't a separate dog toileting area so that made it a little further to travel with my pooch for the basics.
Finding it is really easy, turn off for Braithwaite from the A66 and literally yards on the left there it is. On the downside this meant that there was a bit of road noise if you end up on that side of the park. But the scenery around really makes up for it, with walks available right out of the campsite and much more a short drive away in the surrounding Lake District.
Plenty of local village pubs and hotels for food and friendly banter which are very dog friendly. Coledale Inn allows dogs throughout. Keswick is only around 15 minutes away by car.
So this site for me could easily have been a 10 out of 10, but took half a point off for the road noise from the A66 and half a point off for the non-dog accommodating facilities.
But wouldn't hesitate to go back.

We stayed at this site after viewing another one that we did not like. What an excellent choice. The views were fantastic. Shower/toilet block was excellent. Very large shower cubicles with hot water. Touch flush toilets. Underfloor heating through out the whole block. As it was a Saturday no electric hook up was available. Due to travelling from York this didn't bother us as we were tired & looking forward to an early night. We were able to move next day to ehu. Site was easy to get to. Short drive to Keswick shops & if I remember correctly approx 20 mile drive to Lake Windermere. Please read all the other reviews to get a full picture of this excellent site.

Brilliant campsite, we had a cracking time here, we stayed during the August Bank Holiday.
We stayed on the Braithwaite Bridge site, which is just over the road from the main site.
Good site and the shower block/toilets are good, clean and tidy, showers were very hot and free too, bonus!
The only down side was due to the weather, it rained solid for a day and night and the land did get a bit water logged, maybe some sort of drainage system might help as it's the Lakes and rains so much, but the rain is not the campsites fault, I've even seen some people give campsites rubbish scores because of the weather!
There is a dryer, which takes 20p's, much needed for when we went due to the amount of rain we had.
Anyway, we loved it here, when the sun did come out on the Sunday, we went up Skiddaw and come back for a bbq in the sun, cracking.
All other tenters were friendly and there was no noises at all after 10ish!
Keswick is just down the road so the campsite is in a great location.
We would defo stay here again

We arrived on August Bank Holiday Monday in torrential rain. There were very few tents pitched on the site so we chose the driest space we could find. The site did seem to be very wett with some areas cordoned off but we managed to find a dryish bit.
The toilets and showers were very good and we never had to wait for showers at all. But then there were only about 10 tents on the whole site.
Although the facilities are limited you can use the facilities at Scotgate in Braithwaite village which is a 10 minute stroll. We particularly liked the cafe where we had breakfast every day as it was so good and the staff so friendly.
There is a laundary at this site (Scotgate) but it consists of only one washer and one dryer which would seem inadequate for the size of the site.
Braithwaite seemed like a lovely village and I would recommend the village store which provides a variety of options for hot food as well as normal grocery stuff.
Keswick is close by and was as lovely as ever. I would suggest that families should try Winnlater Forest Visitor Centre where they have Go Ape which was excellent. There are lots of walks and cycle roots through the forest and bikes can be hired from the centre.
Overall, it was a really nice site but I think it would be less appealling if it was dry and very busy.

We normally camp every summer for a week in a tent, but this year we opted out due to the very unpredictable weather. Call us soft, we don't mind! We booked a 6 berth static caravan at Scotgate for a very reasonable price.
Quite simply, this is one of the best campsites I have ever stayed at. The caravan was immaculate and they had provided everything-even a tea towel and washing up sponges. Very comfortable and warm and lovely.
What makes this place is the other campers though-my 7 year old step daughter made friends within 10 minutes and loved the open spaces in the caravan part of the park.
The stream that runs behind the park was well used by all kids for stone skimming and dam building. There is no specific play area for kids though, but most had brought bikes, scooters etc.
A bike is a must if you're a kid on this campsite though!
The shop is well stocked, everything you need, staff are helpful and the place is immaculate. We had a slight problem with our toilet in the caravan, but it was fixed within 30 minutes of reporting.
As we are nosey, we had a look in the impressive looking toilet block and it's the best toilet block we have ever seen. Even though our caravan bathroom was lovely, some of my family did opt into showering in the block due to how clean and spacious it was, with no queues.
Our only criticism is from a tent point of view. We probably wouldn't camp here for 3 reasons-you can't book ahead so if you're coming 2 1/2 hours we don't want to take a chance.
2. On rainy days we have noticed that some of the camping areas are very wet underfoot and there's no real pattern to where will be this damp.
3. There's no pitch management, so when we arrived on a Saturday the place was crammed and no one seemed to have any real space. By Sunday, lots had packed up and moved on though. Maybe we're too uptight about these things though!
All in all, a great campsite with good facilities, brilliant pub up the road and is very easy to find and well connected. Will definitely return if we ever decide to have another static caravan holiday again.

Camped here for the first time
GOOD POINTS - shower block on the main campsite is fantastic very modern clean and great hot showers all of which are wet rooms 4 to be exact. Plenty of wash sinks and toilets.
The on site shop sells everything you could want really for camping and there is a cafe which does a full english for £6 which is handy if you don't want to cook.
The campsite is located in the heart of the lakes next to Keswick which is handy. There are 2 pubs next to the site which sell good food and ale.
There is a stream which runs along the back of site which is great fun for the kids depending on how old they are. Suggest you take stormpegs because the ground is very stony.
BAD POINTS - some Toilets didn't have paper. The pot washing house is time consuming the taps are push down and get very hot but take an eternity to even half fill to wash up.
There is only one clothes dryer which on a wet day gets busy and queuing starts. The 10. 30 noise curfew was non existent 3 oclock in the morning revving cars we thought they were going to race round the tents scared the life out of my young family. No one came to tell them to stop. Luckily it was only one night apart from that and the appalling weather we had a great time. Would highly recommend

We stayed for two nights, on a bike tour of the Lake District. It was slightly disconcerting that you can't book a tent pitch, especially as we were travelling from the other side of the country, but there was room for us, despite us arriving at teatime.
There aren't any marked pitches (that I could see), so pitching was a bit haphazard, especially as the staff didn't say anything about where to pitch - they pretty much left us to it, but we were meeting up with friends who had already arrived, so we just pitched next to them.
That said, the facilities are first-rate: huge showers in very posh bathrooms. The on-site cafe is brilliant, and there's a pub just down the street that does really good food too. Keswick is just down the road, so the site is an ideal place to start exploring from.
As you'd expect in the Lake District, it rained. A lot. Our pitch was fine, but our friend woke up to find a puddle under his tent. The ground wasn't muddy, though, so I presume the pitches drain fairly quickly once the rain stops for a bit!
The tariff did seem a bit steep for over £20 a night without EHU, but the facilities and location meant we felt it was good value for money, and we'd definitely stay there again.

I have stayed on this site several times and regard it as one of the better sites I have stayed on in the Lake District - that is of course if you are not into wild camping.
The site is very clean with adequate wash and laundry facilities. It has a well stocked shop and even has a restaurant should you want to indulge in a breakfast or dinner.
The hard standings are very well maintained and neat with electric hook up. The grassed area for camping is perhaps one of the best I have come across so far. It is kept short and always in excellent condition which gives the impression that they must weed and feed the camping ground in order to maintain a standard.
Perhaps the only drawback is price which for a camper van is 19. 50 in the low season and I think about £22. 80 in the high. I do think, however, given the quality of the facilities this one is worth it.
