I have been coming to Scotgate now for 17 years (for the last 6 years with my family) what more can I say that hasn't already been said? A very friendly family run campsite which seems to be enjoyed by all, hikers, couples, tourers or just for a family weekend away. It has everything you need, shop (reasonably priced), very clean showers and toilets, laundry, bar/cafe and a pub a few minutes walk up the road.
An ideal base for visiting the north of the lakes or a nice place to relax. We now visit at least 3 times a year, definitely one of our favourite sites. I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a site for first time camping.

Just spent another great week at Scotgate where the weather wasn't very good but you are so close to the mountains, Lakes and Keswick that it wasn't too much of a hindrance.

This campsite is OK but nothing special. The location and scenery are nice, although there is some road noise from the A66. It is pretty basic overall, and very overpiced at almost 18 pounds per night for a family of 4 with a tent and car, when you consider there is no swimming pool, you have to pay for showers etc, and facilities basically comprise a shop and cafe. Also, I found the campsite to be very heavily midge infested, and the man on the desk was quite grumpy.

Having been to Scotgate for over 15 years I have finally found this brill website! Scotgate is a fantastic site with a coffee shop, shop selling everything you may ever need, toilet/shower block, laundry, large open playing field for football, kite flying, volleyball etc.  Accomodates for tents, tourers, has static caravans and log cabins.  Family run business that improves year after year!  Each year we go at least 3 times and always have a good time. Staff are really helpful, and even delivered a baby a couple of years ago! A Site well worth a visit!

Been here three times now and I cant wait to go again. Good shop and clean but basic showers. But be prepared for sudden weather change like gales etc! As its situated in the mountains with great views. Good cafe on sight and keswick only 3 miles away

We stayed at Scotgate from Monday to Saturday. It is a lovely site, level area for tents, toilets were clean, well equipped shop, friendly people.

There are lots of walks around the campsite and also if you travel by car. We recommend walking around Buttermere lake, it is beautiful (and sit along the shore with a picnic).

We would definitely stay there again.

Very nice campsite situated just off the A66 near keswick. Very level camp site with pleanty of places to pitch a tent. Shower and toilet blocks were basic but clean. If you run out of 10p's for the shower though, expect an ice cold one, brrr. Saying that though this is what campings about.

Pub 2 minute walk up the road was very nice and keswick is literrally a 5 minute car journey away. Would recomnend driving along the road signposted for buttermere just past the campsite. Some spectaular views and buttermere its self seems like a nice place to explore (if its not raining :) ). Shop on site was pretty cheap, although never got the chance to use the cafe, it always seemed to be busy in the mornings serving breakfast. All in all, a nice clean and friendly campsite.

This is the second time I have visited this site in the last month and I have nothing but praise.
The facilities are superb, good location for keswick and surroundings to die for.
The shop is very reasonably priced and the all day cafe beats most local cafes and pubs for price and value for money, me and the missus are both 50 in october and we will be using the site as much as we can this summer, it's the best site I have used in years but I dont think it will be the same during the school hols.

This was our first camping experience and what an enjoyable one. Reasonable shop and friendly staff what more could you want. The toilet and shower block are basic but cleaned regularly. Will definitely visit again. Keswick is only 3 miles away with lots of shops and good eating facilities.

This site was recommended to us by a former Mountain Rescue volunteer so we expected good things! We weren't disappointed. The site is situated just outside Keswick in Braithwaite with a number of hill walks of varying degrees of difficulty starting from the village.

The village itself is very picturesque with a few great pubs just a short walk from the campsite. The campsite has a good shop AND cafe/pizzeria! We've since stayed in campsites with nicer shower/toilets blocks but they weren't bad...average I'd say.

We were blessed with fantastic weather whilst there which probably gave everything that rose tinted glow but we'll probably be back!
