Great site with lots of room, short nicely mown grass, nice and flat for camping and space for kids to run about. Toilets and showers were absolutely fine. Seemed much nicer than their other site up the road which was very crowded. Nice location with some great views and plenty of nearby footpaths and nice walks. Good spot for exploring the Lakes and Fells as near to Keswick and so easy to get to wherever you fancy.

If you are staying here in a caravan or a lodge this is a great site. The facilities and location are good but the problem is they just let on far to many campers on the field. When you walked around you are climbing over other tents guide ropes and have no privacy.
I suppose it depends on what you want from your camping trip, being this close to the neighbours is not my idea of a good time. Maybe we just went on a busy weekend. I can't imagine what it would be like for a bank holiday weekend.
Staff are friendly - great with booking enquiries

I was surprised at how much space there was at the site considering that the sister site of Scottsdale, just down the road, was nearly full. It is a good sized flat field which was dry even after all of the recent rain (I had heard that there had been some recent flooding in a site nearby).
Good facilities with 3 showers, about 6-8 toilet stalls & 10 sinks which were clean & in good order.
The only only downside I found with the site was as the A66 looped around the site on 2 sides the traffic noise was noticeable all night.

Enjoyed our stay at the Scotgate, very helpful staff, showed us to our pitch, unhooked us and pushed the caravan into place. Facilities are excelled and showers hot and very spacious. We arrived on a Saturday and even though the site was full it was still very peaceful, and beautiful surroundings.
We realised when we were hooking up our TV arial that we were missing a connector, we asked in the shop if they had one and at reception with no luck, we then resigned our selves to no TV for a couple of days until we could get into Keswick and buy a connector. Within half an hour a van pulled up in front of our caravan and the man handed us an arial connector they had found in their stores, we went to the reception to pay for it and they wouldn't accept anything for it. We were mightily impressed!
The shop was very well stocked and reasonably priced. We didn't get round to trying the cafe though. The pub just up the road has superb food, a word of warning though on a Saturday night the pub was packed and we struggled getting a table, so get there early if you want food.
Loved this site and will definitely be staying here again.

I've just enjoyed another stay at this excellent site, and I can only add to my general praise for its facilities and staff.
This time, I had a good look in the shop (it was raining, I was bored) and it's one of those shops that seems to sell everything you need. I think you could actually just turn up with a tent and a sleeping bag and get everything else from the shop. Not that you would, of course, but if you've forgotten your hairbrush or one of your bungees has broken, it's nice to know you don't have to scour the earth for a replacement.
Unfortunately I had occasion to complain about a tent of young men who were on top note last thing at night then off again from 0530 in the morning. I wasn't the only person who'd complained about them either. The staff were most apologetic - the noisy group was not due to stay a second night, but I got the strong impression that they'd have been sent packing otherwise.
It's not nice to have to complain, but to be taken seriously by the staff was comforting.
It does take me back to the only reservation I have about the site which is the lack of pitch management - these lads had put a large family size tent into a gap between my tent and 'the neighbours', crowding us both, and exacerbated by two cars parked almost on our guy ropes.
Please can the site consider a little bit of pitch management so we don't get people squeezing into gaps that aren't comfortably big enough? The irony was that there were parts of the site completely unused!
Anyway - the acid test is that I'll be back again! Many thanks Scotgate!

Great site excellent facilities, showers etc. Looked brand new. Very useful shop, had most things you could need including newspapers, on site cafe seemed to be open until quite late in the evenings, we only had breakfast there on the morning we left, ok !
Pub up the road served very good food and reasonably priced, bus stop outside gate very handy for us older folk with bus passes !
Keswick is a couple of miles nice flat walk nice town, would certainly like to return one day,so many places so little time.

Returned yet again to this cracking site for a 3 night stay. Originally intended to pitch on the overflow field on the other side of the A66, as we have in the past, as we like the hassle free feel to it but opted to pitch on the main site for a change which was fine.
Toilets modern & clean with free hot showers in spacious cubicles. Good facilities for campervans. Decent shop & cafe.
Keswick is 5 mins drive or a good walk. Bassenthwaite lake is just 5 mins drive to the west, home of our ospreys & if your as lucky as I was you may see it catch a fish for its mate.
By the way the royal oak in the village sells a lovely pint of Jennings sneck lifter

Found the site to be very large and modern, the facilities were first class and extremely clean. The site was very quite, however considering it was December this was hardly surprising! The site is surrounded by beautiful scenery, ideally located for those who enjoy walking and also only a 5 minute drive to the beautiful town of Keswick. There are also a couple of pubs and a shop in the village of Braithwaite itself if you choose not to venture very far.
The location of where you pitch your tent means that during busy times I would imagine you are quite overlooked and quite close to your neighbouring tents.

Collected a caravan from Liverpool and decided to stop overnight to break the journey back to Tyne & Wear.
Booking made on strength of reviews (UKCampsite)
The site was excellent.
Arrived late on Saturday 7th due to heavy rain and severe wind (Not me!)
Met at gate by owner and accomplice who removed van from vehicle and pulled it into position, (This was a great help as my left arm was in a sling following a recent shoulder operation)
Advised re local pubs and chose local CAMRA watering hole in the village. Excellent meal & drink, very friendly.
Next day woke to beautiful location of site, nestled in the surrounding hills.
Shower block was immaculate clean and faultless.
Site shop was open and fairly well stocked. Shopkeeper must have had a bad night though, very unsociable!
Requested in office that we could stay past the departure time of 1100, not a problem. Offered to pay extra until 1400 but payment declined.
Left site after few hours in nearby Keswick (Never ever seen so many outdoor clothing shops, such competition!)
On departure, vowed to return next time for a much longer stay.
Highly recommended.

The site is in a great location both for road access and also for heading straight out onto the fells either on foot or on two pedally wheels. Great views of Skiddaw, Blencathra, Grisedale Pike and Causey Pike.
The facilities are excellent, and well thought out. Overall, it is very good value for money. Features such as the cafe and shop make it more user friendly if you're the sort of person who doesn't camp every weekend, or if you've missed a piece of kit when packing in a rush.
There's not really much for kids - eg playground - other than a pool room, so there were a few kids racing round the site having screaming competitions etc while their parents got drunk. But generally, I'd say this was a site for those that prefer to make their own entertainment.
For tent camping the site does suffer from tent claustrophobia in some ways; as the site does attract lots of campers, it can get a bit close in and intrusive. Some attempt to define tent pitches might alleviate this problem. However the ground is flat and tolerably well drained which makes up for the crowded feeling.
Having had a little moan, I'd still recommend it as a site, and as with any campsite you do take your chances with who actually turns up and how they behave!
