Lovely site, arrived after a long day at work and were greeted by very friendly staff, we were shown where to put our tents up and left to enjoy our holiday. Staff were always there to help if needed. Kids loved the shop on site as this stocked quite a few toys and sweets, but it is well stocked on your essentials.
The toilet block is one of the cleanest we've ever seen they were lovely and warm, the showers had loads of space. We can't wait to go back hopefully in the summer holidays.

Excellent campsite in a superb location. Having seen the very busy Scotgate as we checked in, we were a bit worried about whether Braithwaite Bridges (sister site on other side of A66) would be rammed also, but it wasn't.
You checkin as Scotgate, and then make your way to Braithwaite Bridges, pick a spot and pitch up. We chose a nice corner of the first of two fields. We had plenty of room and whist we arrived on Monday (only about 6 tents on whole site) it got steadily busier as the week went on, but even Saturday night, when it was 'busy' it was still relatively well spaced out.
They get a lot of DofE and one night travellers here, and you can see why as it is on the Cumbrian Challenge Route and has easy access to Skiddaw / Whinlatter etc.
The facilities are fine, 3 showers in the gents, free hot running water, loads of cubicles and urinals. They are cleaned at least twice a day, probably more. Plenty of water points, plenty of bins and a washing up room which has two massive sinks.
Scotgate as a good shop and what looked like a decent cafe.
The site go a little boggy over the weekend, but only in isolated patches, and to be fair some of thr rain we had was monumental.
I cannot fault the site at all. And we'll be back.

There are so many good things about this site that the few minor niggles are paled into insignificance. The site is well laid out with hard standing for tourers and motor caravans, with water and electric as well as TV point. Some are awning pitches and others not, however, there is plenty of space to park car alongside. The weather was gorgeous and the scenery is amazing and nothing can beat this site for its position. On arrival one of the staff will come and help you unhitch and push your van into position, nice touch. Bus passes the gate for Keswick and onwards to Penrith or Workington. The facilities were new a few years ago and were amazing then and in some ways still are, the showers are hot and plentiful although a shelf for soap and shampoo wouldn't go amiss. No privacy cubicles for washing though and although superb there were several taps in the gents that were not working. There is a large camping field in the centre of the site and this was very busy when we were there. I think the site has become quite expensive at £28. 50 per night with awning. If you want a busy site with amazing awesome views then this is for you.

Our 5th stop on our way back home after touring the north and whilst fine this was probably our least preferred out of the range we had stopped at. Don't get me wrong it has plenty of positives;
A nice shower/ toilet block very clean.
Well maintained site.
Excellent shop
Nice little cafe
Lovely views of the surrounding mountains and hills.
But negatives;
Extremely noisy from traffic on the A66, during the day and late into the eve and early morning.
The site entrance needs better signage and there is nowhere to pull in when you arrive which means you don't have anywhere to stop and could end up sticking out on to the road.
Showers didn't have a mop, which whilst a minor point meant that the floors were mostly always wet and after showering with two kids meant we did create a mess with no way to clean up after ourselves.
The caravans are lined up around the edge of the site pretty close together ( although in fairness our pitch was larger than some of the others) and no space to manoeuvre hook on/off.
In short a nice site but too regimented for us, not enough space or peacefulness (despite having two kids). It does seem popular as they would only have us for two days, but lots of other more local sites better located away from the traffic.
The local pub: royal oak : was a pleasant surprise with lovely food and flexible for the kids. Lockin hill activity centre also worth a visit: we went on an hour horse ride which was excellent but they do loads more things too.

An excellent site. We loved the plush toilet facilities. The showers were perfect: plenty of space, hooks and somewhere to sit whilst you're drying your feet. The views are tremendous. The welcome could have been a little friendlier at reception and in the shop. There is nice footpath direct from the site which is good for dog walking. The site is on a bus route so we were able to travel into Keswick without having to move the van.

Came for May bank holiday.
Very nice site, big and flat green field very specious with lots of room between the tents, although the bank holiday the site was far from full. Atmosphere was quiet and family friendly.
There is no office/personal on site so you need to register at the sister office 0. 5 miles down the road and then peach your tent your tent according to your liking. I guess this can cause problems if you happen to be close to a noisier group.
There is one big shower/toilet block near the entrance, toilet are the basic part yet were clean most of the time. Hot showers are free, yet you have to press the button every 20 sec to continue.

Just come back after a 5 night stay and would love to come back again.
Think we got the best pitch number 29 a serviced pitch that was massive. Nice village with 3 pubs only went into Middle ruddles very dog friendly, didn't eat there but food looked very good.
Good location walks from site and only 45min to keswick. Public footpath runs along site for walking dog. Nice views from site.
Biggest and warmest washrooms, had push buttons but lasted ages.
Only slight negative was that the showers had no shelf to put wash gear on.
No privacy cubical for shave.
The pot washing was a pain you got soaked and had to keep pressing tap down.

We have just returned after a 5 night stay at this site. We would definitely return and I have even recommended this site to other caravanning friends.
We found the site easily and is a straight forward drive northwards from M6. Though we would expect the arrival site to be a little bit busy high season and caravans might get a backlog onto the main road.
We were on pitch 1, not the easiest of pitches to get to but the warden did say that he would help us if we were struggling to get onto it. Saying that it was a huge pitch and worth the struggle to reverse the van onto it. The only downside with this pitch was that we were unable to connect to the sites 'free' wifi (via two phones, two tablets and one laptop - so obviously a range issue and not hardware issue) much to the disappointment of my two children. Each pitch shares a water tap and waste water outlet with its neighbour so there is no trekking backwards and forwards for water and if it is needed each bollard has a tv outlet.
The toilet block is the best I have ever been to. I usually stay away from campsite shower blocks preferring to use our vans shower but I had no issues here. They are extremely clean, very warm (underfloor heating) and the shower cubicles are larger than normal.
The on site shop was closed until Easter but there is a shop in the village which carries a very modest supply of groceries and newspapers. The pubs in the village of which there are three are all dog friendly. We only frequented the one The Royal Oak (dogs not allowed when serving meals) and the food was fantastic.
The only negative comment I have is that there is no night lighting (apart from a dim light from the caravan bollards) which means that at night you have to walk from the shower block to your caravan in complete darkness - but I suppose that is for the benefit of those in tents. The only complaint from the children is no play area for them.
Although there is no real dog walk you are only a 5 minute drive from Whinlatter Forest which has plenty for all. The dog loved it there, as did the children.
All in all a great site within easy distance of some spectacular scenery and one site we will be going back to.

We came here as a couple for a weekend break. What a lovely site. Fantastic pitches which are fully serviced however it seems on the website fully serviced pitches are for touring caravans and not for motorhomes as the designated motorhome area was at the top end of the park away from the facilities. When we booked we asked to be close to the loos and this was accommodated as was a fully serviced pitch but not sure how this would apply in main season. It seems a weird rule as motorhomes really benefit from being able to top up and drain off on pitch without having to drive their whole vehicle away whereas a caravan would use their mobile water carrier anyway regardless of the pitch. Perhaps this rule needs relaxing and it's simply first come first served regardless of your vehicle?
The pitches themselves are fairly level and easy to pitch up at. Television reception is poor so make sure you have the facility to hook up to digital tv.
The toilets are fabulous, warm, clean and ideal for campers. Push button showers but modern enough to stay on for a good length of time without having to keep pushing. My criticism of the toilets blocks were that only every other bulb was lit which is perhaps part of being environmentally friendly but what it did mean was that several showers and toilets were in darkness. Also the water from the showers was a lovely ambient temp but yet in the sinks for my hobby to shave and also in the washing up area was barely luke warm. A final thing, small but important is there was no where to put anything such as shampoo, soap etc when in the shower.
We went up to the pub a couple of times which was pricey but enjoyable and a warm welcome. It's barely a 5 minute walk so perfect for the site and welcomes dogs. Gets very busy on Saturday evenings so plan ahead.
I have marked the customer service down a couple of marks as while there were no real issues, the guy in the office (not the warden ) was a little curt on a couple of occasions when we made some enquiries.

Just returned from a 4 night break and would definitely return.
The site was quite busy. All the pitches were full but it didn't feel overcrowded as there is plenty of room on each pitch.
There were a few tents (brave people) but I could see that come the summer months this being really full of tents and busy with a feeling of being overcrowded.
The site is just at the beginning of the village of Braithwaite with the entrance to the site being in my opinion quite tight. You have to swing out onto the other side of the road to get in.
Once in though everything looks great. Welcome at reception was warm, friendly and was quick to get sorted.
We were on pitch no. 10 which was right next to the entrance. Not the best pitch especially when the bin men come at 6. 40am. The pitch itself was a good size and all the pitches are hard standing. There are different types of pitches depending on if you have a twin axle or are putting up an awning.
The toilet block is one of the best, if not the best that I have ever seen. It was clean, bright and modern. The showers were a good size and I was able to have a shower with my daughter and let her get dry while I had mine with no worries about everything getting wet. The underfloor heating was fantastic especially on a cold, frosty February morning.
We had a walk up to the Royal Oak in Braithwaite which is a nice little village pub. Remember to take plenty of money though as was a bit pricey. Food was lovely and the staff were welcoming and friendly. Very busy on an evening so if you are going to eat maybe best to try and book a table.
We had great weather while we were there and the views from the site are fantastic. Blue skies everyday which is not something that you can normally say for February.
This is one site that is definitely going onto the favourites list.
