Just spent 3 great nights at Scotgate we stayed here 15 years ago well before it was done up to its brilliant standards. The toilets are out of this world clean modern and well looked after. We had intended to stay at CC site in Keswick but it was suffering from the heavy rain. The site is well located for walking in the fells with Barrow in walking distant from the site. The 2 local pubs serve good beers and both have friendly staff. A nice touch is the television hook up meaning no ariels to worry about with good reception. Will return pity I can only rate it 10 out of 10

Just had our second stay on this site, and as was our first visit it was fantastic.
I did a review after the first visit in December / January but could not comment on certain areas so the comments below are an update of that review.
The shop offers all the basic items you may require and are at good prices.
The cafe offers great food again at good prices, just over a fiver for a full English(with everything on)
The coat / bag hooks that were needed on the toilet doors have now been fitted along with hooks in the shower cubicles.
The site also has digital TV points now on all pitches.
You won't be disappointed if you visit this site, and we'll be seeing the new year in there again.

We have stayed at this site several times, mainly because we never book anywhere and we know they will fit us in! It's great for our big tent (the Sunncamp 'enormous') as they don't have a problem with the tent size and they are very easy about what time you arrive - we once arrived at about nine in the morning and had all Saturday on site and then packed up the next day - we had promised our children camping but it rained hideously on the Friday evening.
The loo block is fantastic - not like a campsite at all - very plush - and there is plenty of hot water, always loo roll and always clean.
It can be quite noisy but we usually camp with friends and so may be part of the problem. It is a very popular site and so you have to be a friendly sort of person to camp here.
Good pub within walking distance with a little garden for children. The brook just along the foot path from the site is also a great place for children to play. Our boys liked the freedom of going to the little site shop to buy (cheap tat) toys and milk and bread. It made their holiday!
The site is quite pricey but the loos are out of this world! We like the laid back atmosphere of this site and it is a great base for exploring the Keswick area (and the mountains if you like that kind of thing!).

Myself and wife with our two friends camped here on what must have been the two rainiest days of the year !
The ground is well draining, but with the volume of rain that fell, most of the tent pitches ended up being flooded and a large number of campers (ourselves included) hoisted the white flag and packed up due to the rain flooding the tent.
However, weather apart, this has got to be one of the most perfect parks for staying at due to their set-up.
The amenities block is superb, with plenty of free showers, underfloor heating, and loads of toilets, with a great pot wash room and separate laundry.
There is a well stocked shop that is open from 7am - 9pm which sells most things you will need, as well as having a licence to sell alcohol.
If you fancy a pint and a meal, the Royal Oak pub is only a 3 minute walk away with home cooked meals (I had Cumberland Sausage with mash and fresh veggies for £8.95)and can recommend the Jennings bitter !
Keswick is a 7 minute drive away but the walk is about 40 - 45 minutes (about 2 and a half miles).
All in all, a great place to stay and I would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Obliged to visit this site due to no space at my first choice. Not by any means my first visit.
The views are beautiful, the toilet block and faclities are excellent. The staff are friendly.
BUT they don't seem to care about their own rules. No groups? Place is full of them. Windbreakers zoning off entire areas. Lots of late noise. Pitching within 6'. Kids totally out of control.
No, it wasn't just this time it's almost every time I have been. Which is why I really did not want to go again.
Lorries visit during the night most nights (about 5 am).
I read others saying that the view is everything, or that late noise isn't the fault of the site, or that pitching is down to individuals. The view came free, everything else is for the wardens to take action over. There are rules, they need to be enforced.
Could be a great site, but it isn't as good as other local ones.

Terrific site in a stunningly beautiful location. Well drained, fully serviced level pitches (all gravel so tough pegs needed for awnings) spotless toilet/shower block, friendly warden, small shop (quite well stocked), local pub with good meals only 3 mins walk away.
The main thing about this site is it's location. Smack bang in the middle of the hills the views are stunning. The sky at night (assuming good weather) is great for astronomy so take a telescope if you're into that. We just loved it and will definitely go again.

We stayed at Scotgate for 3 nights in July. We had originally planned to stay at Castlerigg Hall but it was full and the warden directed us here. We were not disappointed. We are novice campers and pitched our tent easily in a great location. The showers, toilets and washing up facilities were excellent and kept clean. In fact, the whole site was well staffed and serviced with the bins being emptied regularly. There are some nice walks nearby and Keswick is only a short drive away. You can rent freezer packs from the shop for £1.20 and £1.00 is returned when you take them back. I only found this out after being there 2 days, so wanted to share this with other campers! My only complaint is about the noise of some inconsiderate drunks returning to their tents talking loudly and disturbing everyone, but that's not the park's fault, it's human nature unfortunately!

Facilities excellent, clean and plenty of space to use. Cafe has a good choice of meals and well priced, couple of cracking pubs in the village.
Only bad point is you cannot book your tent which can be a disappointment when you been driving 2 hours to see the full sign up when you arrive, also can be very full in high season
Owners quite good at chucking people off the site if too noisy late at night.

Visited this campsite after reading reviews on here. Very clean and spacious showers with plenty of free hot water. 20p to use the hairdrier but take your own mirror as I couldn't see in the one they had provided. Also a drying room incase it never stops raining!lovely campsite that we would visit again. Pub just down the road serving good food and beer. Visit the dog and gun in keswick for excellent meals, try the goulash. Market day in keswick thurs & sat. Really enjoyed our stay apart from the awful weather!

We had planned to use this site as a single night stop over as part of the 'Inn Way' long distance route. As a group of 8 x 20 something lads, we were not surprised at the less than friendly reception, however as the site was almost empty they let us on grudgingly. Due to recent bad weather, there were a few boggy patches, but with most of the field to choose from we found a good pitch. There are a lot of statics on site, and a large flat field for tents right by the shop / toilets / reception.
Good things: 5 star toilet block, spotless, underfloor heating, amazing showers you could have a decent party in should you wish. Pot wash area. Well stocked shop and cafe that opens for breakfast.
Bad things: Ground can get boggy - we found we were camping in a lake on our return from the pub. Not much shelter when the wind blows.
On the whole, for location and facilities this site takes some beating. Three great pubs in Braithwaite and a little shop that does fresh sandwiches. Would certainly come back.
