First time camping in 4 years, hadn't planned on going to this site but as the one we wanted was booked up called at Scotgate and finding a suitable pitch was no problem.
The facilities on the site were far better than I had expected to find on any campsite, the owners have given the whole site great care and attention and have delivered what I would describe as 5 star.
The toilet/shower building provides constant hot water in surroundings that most top hotels would be proud of. The grounds are kept immaculate, plenty of bins which are emptied at least twice a day.
It has a well stocked shop, nice on-site eatery all set in the most pleasing of locations.

Myself and two friends had a 6 night stay at Scotgate Holiday Park. It was quite by accident that we ended up here - it had been our original intention to stay at nearby Castlerigg Hall, but that site was full so we headed here and were glad we did.
Upon arriving around 6.00pm on a Friday evening, we found the tent pitches busy, but not as much so as some of the previous reviewers have stated. We managed to pitch up on the left side of the facilities block but this was to our cost later in the week. As strong prevailing westerly winds came in (around 60mph so we were informed), our tent, and those of many others were completely destroyed in the storms, and we had to prematurely end our holiday as the tent was beyond repair, with no less than 3 alloy poles being completely sheared through ! Obviously this was our pure bad luck choosing a week of unpleasant weather - but the gist of this story is if at all possible, try to pitch up on the right hand side of the facilities, close to the line of evergreen trees in order to gain as much shelter as you can at this site, and avoid the centre of the field due to it's exposed nature. Also, there was two or three days of solid rain, and we suffered somewhat with waterlogging and mud, although to be fair, I would imagine most grassy areas in the Keswick region would have endured this too !
The Reception was welcoming and the staff helpful, as was the neighbouring shop. Both opened before 7 in the morning and were open until either 9 or 10 in the evening, which I was surprised by given how late in the season it was. The shop was well stocked with provisions, equipment, papers and also had a good off license. There was also an on site cafe, but we didn't eat there on this occasion. There is one main amenities block, there were probably 20 toilets in the gentlemans block, all spotlessly clean, stocked with paper and very modern - similar to those in MSA's, where you don't have to touch them to flush, just wave your hand a couple of inches away from a sensor. Similarly, the hand basins have sensors which operate when you put your hands under, although I took a few minutes working out how to alter the temperature ! There were 6 showers, all in very generously sized wetrooms with enough room to get changed without soaking your clothes and towel etc. The toilets and adjacent laundry and potwash room were all immaculately clean and very modern. It was reassuring to see the affable gentleman warden checking the facilities regularly during the day and cleaning where necessary. There were a couple of dustbin refuges on the site, but I thought there might be scope to add another couple, particularly at peak periods, and a few standing taps in the field would have been welcome - we didn't have a water carrier and had to wander over to the main building with the kettle which would have not really been a hardship had it not been for the weather, in fairness ! The clientele was quite mixed. As it was outwith the school holidays, we saw few families once the weekend had finished. There were a number of older couples, and also what looked like contractors who were using tents instead of 'digs' (several blokes in boiler suits disappeared in a white van every morning at 8 and reappeared around 5.30pm). What the clientele all had in common was that they were all very pleasant and friendly, and this accounted for a very hospitable atmosphere on the site, and when a number of 'tent disasters' occurred in the wind and rain, there was something of a 'Dunkirk Spirit' as everyone rallied round each other to help out those who had been more unfortunate than others !
The backdrop to the site is impressive, surrounded by imposing mountains, which on the rare occasions when the sun shone looked magnificent, and even when they were shrouded in cloud, it was still a powerful image. The local village, Braithwaite, is a picturesque little place, with a couple of decent pubs and a shop. The local bus serving Penrith, Keswick, Cockermouth and Workington called in the village every hour or so. Keswick is a half hour walk away, although we used a taxi a couple of times (which cost a reasonable fiver) as the weather was inclement. Keswick is a beautiful town with an abundance of shops, restaurants, gardens, museums and a small independent supermarket (Booths).
All in all, I would recommend this site. We will be back, but more likely earlier in the season next year; Scotgate is a lovely place, but less so when the weather is cruel !

This site is spot on for those who want to get back to nature and just enjoy the surroundings. We had tried to book into Scotgate (sister site) and were informed that as the site was full would we consider Braithwaite Bridges? As it was approaching 7pm we were happy to pitch anywhere, especially as our 3 children (along with the other 5 people in our party) were getting tired and hungry.
Well what can I say, having seen the overcrowded rows of tents at the main Scotgate site I was just hoping for somewhere to squeeze in our 3 tents together.I needn't have worried. The site was barely occupied and we practically had our pick of the park. We decided on a lovely spot near to the site facilities but away from other campers, as we have a 1 year old who tends to wake up at night.
The site is completely flat and will accommodate any size of tent with ease. The ground was hard but not overly with pegs going in relatively easy, no boggy areas where seen at all.
The facilities are basic, shower/toilet/kitchen block, but relatively large and were never busy. The kitchen area is small (only 2 sinks) but again we only had to 'endure' a 5 minute wait to use on one occassion.
There are no other facilities on site (may be EHUs but none appeared to be in use - some looked quite old as well). However that was the beauty of the site. The kids (and adults) had plenty of room to play bat and ball games and once the kids where in bed the adults were able to have a drink and chat without the worry of disturbing others on the park.
The setting is great, with fantastic views of Skiddow in the background, Keswick is a 30 minute walk on a flat path, although it runs down the side of the A66 for part of the way and that is busy.
Overall a great site. I'm heading back there in October, this time in a 2 man tent and will ask to pitch at Braithwaite rather than Scotgate.
Try it, if you like a lovely site with plenty of space you'll enjoy it.

This was used as an overflow site for its sister site(scotgate) which didn't bother any of us (me and the missus) even though it rained for a few hours each day it didn't bother us as it was a peaceful timeout time. The site is kept very clean but was a little bit waterlogged in places. The shower / loo / washroom block is small but kept very clean but they're a little late at taking rubbish bags but overall would go back.

We arrived at midday on a Friday and pulled in to find the main site was full and looked very crowded. They had space at their sister site Bainbridge Bridges which for us was ideal as much more space to pitch, prefer it to the main site.
Only complaint is that the price was the same for Bainbridge Bridges site even though the facilities were way below the standard of the main site, which was a good 15 minute walk away.
Scotgate itself seemed to be a very clean and well kept site but way too overcrowded with tents pitched with guy ropes crossing. None of this at the overflow site but the facilities do need upgrading to match.
The surrounding scenery is amazing and wirth a visit just for this, Braithwaite village as a couple of good pubs and a well stocked shop with lots of walks on the doorstep.

I returned to this camp site for the first time in 11 years and I really liked what I found. We stayed for 4 nights and found very pleasant staff on site and the cafe was cracking!
Full English breakfast in a box for less than a fiver and it was very tasty. I will echo what someone has already said about pitch management. It did get really crowded around our tent as the week went on which meant a struggle for space to park the car. Other parts of the site seemed much less crowded.
The facilities were very good indeed, modern and clean. The water in the shower was a decent temperature. Beware of the sinks though, there was standing water on the units around them almost every time I went in which meant that I couldn't brush my teeth or wash my face or hands properly without getting a wet t-shirt! Same in the pot wash area which other than that was great with very hot water.
My other half said that the shop was great too. There didn't appear to be a space set aside for children to play so there were lots of kids around. We didn't mind it, but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. Will definitely go back to this site.

Had yet another great weekend on this site. Not too busy on Friday lunchtime when we arrived. Went over to the main site,(Scotgate) to pay for three nights. This was jam packed with tents, motor homes and touring caravans. I personally think there are too many tents on this site. The facility block had been revamped since the last time I was on there. Really nice.
The facility block on Braithwaite Bridge site was ample enough though. Nice & clean, as usual, plenty of toilets and three free showers. What more do you need? The site did get busier on Friday night but wasn't too bad. I'll be back next year and probably the year after that and after that!

This is the second time we have stayed here the first time about 5 years ago.
The new modern toilet block is brilliant, it was warm, clean and I thought the idea of having to big showers in each corner of the ladies very good as this would help when going in with children.
The site is well situated, clean and tidy. Nice walks all the way around. The shop was stocked well with the basics and very helpful staff.
You can also hire out static caravans which looked, clean and well maintained as well as log cabins. Very impressed with this site and we will definitely be back again.

I stayed at scotgate recently with a group of friends and was immediately impressed with the help received at reception. It seemed nothing was too much hassle for the reception team. After pitching our tents a quick tour of the facilities revealed possibly the cleanest toilet block and shower facilities ever seen on a campsite. There's also a laundry facility.
Upon further inspection we found a pool table, well stocked shop that was surprisingly reasonable with its prices. There's a decent cafe with friendly staff. A 5 minute walk to the local pub which sells nice traditional food and a good selection of beers.
Its an ideally situated site for walking/cycling etc and the views are breathtaking. Id definitely stay here again and I'd recommend it to anyone

I have just came back from the Lake District today stayed 2 nights, I stayed at Scotgate Holiday Park it was really nice.
Site was clean
Toilet/Shower block was immaculate
Staff were friendly
Shop was well priced
Internet worked well all over campsite, worked fine on my PSP + iPod Touch (£1 - 20 mins. £2.50 - 1 hour. £10.00 - 15 hours)
Campsite has beautiful views of mountains at all angles. About 2 miles from Keswick centre. Lovely setting.
Would definitely return and would recommend to anyone who is thinking of going to the Lake District.
