Large site we were told we could choose one of three areas and we had a large field to ourselves and lots of rabbits. My husband loved the fishing on site, both river and the lake.
All the facilities were very clean and the shower stalls were well designed. Also had private washing stalls for the ladies. There was a small shop on site for essentials and you could preorder baguettes for the morning.
The land down to the site was a bit bumpy but it was very secure with a card entry system. We didn't know about using the Shamba facilities next door until the end of our holiday but will next time.
Used the local pub, good value as it was a BOGOF offer, with lots of choice, you could walk there but quite a long walk up the lane first. Site within easy reach of the coast and the New Forest.

What a lovely clean site. Beautiful surroundings, large pitch well serviced. I was dubious about this site but after visiting this June I was surprised
The ground is rather stony and we bent a few pegs but nothing to worry about. The site is safe with a key entry system in place and you can get papers and fresh bread for breakfast from the shop on site.
The only downfall I would say is that you have to go out of the site and on the dual carriage way and turn around to go to sainburys to shop but you can get around that by walking
It is a lovely site to take your dog loads of space about 1/4 mile square of woodland for pooch to explore My dog loved it. Rabbits galore
Highly recommended for any one waning a quiet time Pub 10 mins walk good food on a bogof. And you can use the Shamba site 5 mins away to have a swim and use of the clubhouse.
Other reviews say that you can here the road from the site Yes you can but its not loud I think the birds are louder than the traffic!

The campsite wasn't busy when we were there. The men's shower blocks were good but 4 showers for a full site would probably mean queues. Floors did get a bit slippy so watch your step.
The site managers were friendly and gave us useful information about the local area. Nice touch in providing hot baguettes and croissant in the morning (you do need to order them the day before).
You can hear the main road at night from the camping field. Didn't really expect this! Not as quiet as we would have liked - as a member of Tranquil Touring Parks this wasn't what we expected. Perhaps not so noticeable if you are in a caravan rather than a tent.
You are close to lots of places of interest - one day we cycled through Hurn Forest to Christchurch, Hengistbury Head and on to Bournemouth - and then back. We also cycled in the New Forest. There are ways of minimising cycling on busy A roads - get some maps from reception.

Stayed at this site 8th to 12th June. Didn't mind the rough potholed track to the site too much as had been warned by previous contributors, but thought somebody could take responsibility for this.
However the whole site had the air of being 'tired' and in need of some TLC and investment. We couldn't wait to leave but had commitments in the area.
All the taps have to be kept pressed on all the time or cut off straight away - including the showers and the cold fresh water taps which is a real pain.
The only waste-water emptying point is sited on top of a 6inch high shelf on top of a 9inch high ledge - messy and a real pain to negotiate with wheeled wastemaster.
On our 2nd night we were woken and kept disturbed through the night by the arrival of a neighbouring seasonal pitcher at about 11pm who insisted on slamming his car doors and loudly zipping his awning up and down and noisily assembling something in his awning continually until about 5am. We had to mention this to the reception who declined to do anything about it.
Why is the only 'dustbin' on the site a large very heavy-lidded metal industrial skip, impossible to reach and open unless you're a 6ft bloke?
No recycling facilities.
Washroom facilities not cleaned as often as they'd like you to believe - and the constant hassle of having to keep leaning on the taps.
Be careful on leaving the site onto the very busy A31, whether towing or not, as there is no slip lane to allow you to accelerate before merging into the constant traffic.

Nice site, friendly owners, good dog walk toilets and showers first class, not much of a view from the site but well situated for all the sights of the area. Rained for the whole week we were there and ground was very waterlogged.
Downside, this is the most expensive site we have ever stayed on, the lane to the site looks like a Vulcan had done a bombing run twice.
Don't think we will be staying again simply for the cost.

Really liked the site, agree the road is uneven but given that its single track it helps to make sure you don't come head to head with someone flying round a bend, take it easy and its fine.
Site was really quiet, and great location.
Maybe issue when busy as there are only 4 showers that I could see, also see what people mean about tiled floors, maybe mats are needed when wet. But nice and clean and showers were great.
Certainly as good as anywhere else I have stayed. Def look to go back if in Dorset area again.

Just returned from a great stay at this site. The facilities are great and the pitch and putt course is lovely! there was hardly anyone there so it was lovely and peaceful, however we did find the road to be very noisy (it went on all night too) which was a shame.
We did not find the nearby pubs to be great though,so for a fantastic country pub head to the New Forest Inn at Emery Down - it is about 13 miles away but absolutely worth it if you like lovely food in a country pub (great beer garden as well).
Also if you take your bikes there are great cycle routes available in the on site shop, which go along an old railway line and through the Forest - really brilliant.

This was the first adult only site we had visited and what a difference - it was wonderfully quiet and blissful nights sleep despite the rain hammering on our caravan for practically the whole 16 nights visit.
The 'pitch and putt' is great, except the bunnies have added a lot more holes to the pitch. And the woodland is wonderful but gives you only a five minute walk from one end to the other, but if you zig zag it is still a dense woodland with a lovely grassy green carpet and fresh loveliness added by the pine wood smells and the crunch of snapping twigs - it gives a whole new meaning to a dog walk facility.
There are a very large amount of permanent touring caravans that have priority pitches and the visitors are scattered around the edges which is fine. The permanent visitors also have a lot of solar lighting outside their awnings and looks awful until the night time and it gives a pleasant Disneyland feel to the place that is quite pretty in the dark as you take your dogs for their last nights walk.
The showers were tepid up until our last week there and then were hotter. The shower, toilet and facilities are lovely and clean but for the floors which are all ceramic tiles; and with all the terrible rain the tiles felt treacherous underfoot. The shower shelf in the cubicles were very high up [6ft off the ground] so not much used by many women! They have a disabled persons shower with hand washing facilities but no hand dryer or towels to use after using the toilet - yet they do in the enabled persons toilets. There is a free hair dryer which is stronger and more effective than the hand dryer.
The holiday pamphlets were greatly geared for families. And very little helpful info for dog owners to the area for the first time. The owner said there were two dog friendly beaches and only told us of one, and said you would need a good map to find it! We didn't find it.
We made it a very restful holiday enjoying the site and the quietness and dog safe area it provided. Mainly because of the awful weather we had.
I would certainly go to another adult only site - it made such a difference but not this site. We never ever felt welcome and it was the most expensive site we have been too. We would have liked a little more civility.
The lane leads [go very slowly as others have noted - it is pitted]onto the site from the A31 a dual carraige, so you do need a car to get around. The camp site is far enough away from this busy road to not hear traffic noise, other than the emergency sirens on occasions.
You will have an enjoyable time here especially if the weather is with you.

Given that Back of Beyond is marketed as an indulgent adults only campsite, there are a few features which are far from this image. As previously mentioned the entrance isn't great but certainly not daunting providing you are a careful driver, a bigger problem is trying to exit on the dual carriageway (very busy for most of the day).
The site itself is very pretty but definitely aimed more at caravanners who may have their own facilities rather than campers.
The toilet blocks were not in great shape, the floors are treacherous if its raining as they are completely tiled. Both the mens and ladies showers seem to have issues with temperature (or lack of it) and are completely impractical as its difficult to put your clothes out of firing range of the shower. The mop provided would have actually made the floor dirtier due to lack of clean water (I'm told this was the same in the gents).
The chemical toilet disposal is not situated in the best location as the smell quite often wafts across one of the most attractive camping areas. Have visited sites which cost far less and get you much warmer customer service, better pitching ground, and hotter (unmetered) showers (much appreciated after spending all day and night outside, and the least I'd expect).
On the whole an adequate site for the location but far from the best we've experienced.
