Firstly, I have to say that as far as caravan parks go, here is nothing wrong with this one, but it is not as good as 'they say they are'. The pitches are roomy but are laid out in such a way that they give you no flexibility. Its jockey wheel on the 'landing strip' or its no pitching! With a large, full awning, it leaves you no room to sit out.
Electricity is 10amp and has to be reset by the warden, so take care when using your appliances. The dog walking area is great, open heath and wooded areas where dogs be off the lead, but its the only area! There are other areas but there are notices informing you they are SSSI's and no dogs allowed! The Sputh Downs National Park is SSSI and dogs are allowed! There is a rule that on the campsite ALL dogs must be on a lead, a rule that was largely ignored by a large number of owners, and seeminly not enforced by the site owners.
The amenities are ample, just, with barely enough toilets and showers for the number of pitches! And ladies, be warned, the dishwashing area is in your toilet block, with men (sometimes!) doing the washing up while youreusing the toilet!
Like I said, as a site, it is what it is, but at £32 a night, in my opinion, it is overpriced, by about £8 a night!
|
Management response: This review suggests the ladies toilets are in the washing up area: There are 2 wash up areas one outside and one inside. The inside washup is in the same building as the smaller ladies shower block however they are completely separate and you have to walk through a door to enter the ladies showering area. |

This is one of the best touring sites we have stayed on, location, facilities and staff are all excellent.
Pitches are all very large, are all grass and nicely landscaped. The dog walking area is 18 acres of woodland and grassland, a few yards from your pitch!
No children are allowed on site, dogs are welcomed and the warden, Mike, is most helpful. The site owners keep bees and their honey is sold in the well-stocked site shop. Showers and toilets are well kept and very clean.

What an absolute gem of a site. We only have high praise for the wardens, manager and owners of this site who made us feel welcome. The facilities were second to none and cleaned to an excellent standard. Plenty of hot water at all times for washing up and showers.
The fish and chips from the van were very good as were the pizzas.
The woodland walk for our two dogs was brilliant.
Plenty of places to visit roundabout and a Lidl and Sainsburys nearby for shopping, although the shop had most things if you ran out of anything.
We will be returning.
And the adult only part of it was brilliant. The site was peaceful and very quiet.
Thanks once again for a lovely holiday.

A lovely site, well laid out with huge pitches which are now marked out with shingle strips. The 10 amp electric hookups weren't a problem. We have a domestic kettle but it didn't trip out. Mind you, we had a lovely sunny week so didn't need the heating on. We did, however, suffer greatly from midges while sitting outside in the evenings.
We are used to midges at home because of the Scots pine trees near our home and when they come down in the evenings, we just have to go indoors, and the same thing happened on the site. It's was a combination of the lovely weather and the time of year ( it's their breeding season). We tried insect repellent and citronella candles but they weren't very efficient.
There has been some Eucalyptus trees planted around the site. Whether they were planted deliberately to ward off midges or not, we don't know but, as a last resort, Steve picked a few small pieces of tree and placed them on our Cadac with water, to create a cloud of steam which seemed to work!
They did spoil our evenings somewhat. There is background traffic noise all the time because the A31 is a very busy road. There is a small shop with local produce for sale and a summerhouse with lots of local info and DVDs to borrow. The shower blocks were warm and well thought out. The dog walks were also good. As we arrived on a Saturday, we decided to try the fish and chips from the van that visits and they were very good.
All in all a lovely, lovely site but just be prepared for the midges at this time of year, and the background traffic noise (even at night), if that is an issue for you.

Been here twice but sorry to say I won't be returning.
Both times we have had electricity problems as regards tripping, this is ok but you have to ring or fetch the warden when it happens as you cannot reset yourself.
Chilly shower block and Luke warm water.
When electric trip happened we were told to use gas for heating as the amps could not handle it, that's ok but when your paying premium prices I expect to use the site electric. We used our grand it run out so I asked to purchase some but they had none so we had to o a run around for a bottle.
The site has serious drainage problems, people using the site in summer won't notice this but if you have a lot of rain you get water logged, and I mean water logged. Had to move pitch, thankfully there were some available but probably only 4 which were not covered by puddles.
Everywhere you go is a run out as nothing is local and the roads get very busy any day of the week.
This is a hot weather only site

When we arrived after a long journey we were warmly welcomed and given a choice of pitches on this beautiful site. The pitches are generous and on sandy, quick draining soil which proved very useful as we had torrential rain during our stay.
All of the facilities are top notch and the dog walks are fabulous. I wished we could have stayed longer and I am envious of anyone who has a seasonal pitch.
The approach to the site from the main road is clearly signed, but the driveway is long, narrow and winding and should be approached with care.

Just spent a week at this site. It was our first visit. After reading through the reviews I was a bit sceptical of the condition of the approach lane. Yes it is bumpy, yes its narrow but there are passing place. Did I find it an issue? No not at all, after all you only go down it twice with the van, yes its a bit dusty and would be better if a little attention was paid to it but do not be put off by this.
Minor moans and only minor, 10amps electric which went whilst boiling a kettle, this was our fault as its a domestic kettle which made us buy a low ampage one, but we had to call the warden out to reset it as there is no reset on your own power point. After this we were very cautious as we did not want to be a pain and call him out a second time. A local reset would have been nice.
Shower temp and flow fluctuated slightly but not enough to stop me having a shower.
On arrival wardens were very nice and helpful. We were able to pick our pitch which is always a bonus, the one we had was the biggest pitch we have had in 5yrs of vanning.
They have bbq nights, pizza nights and fish and chip van nights which is great if you have had a long day and want to chill.
The site has a lovely woodland walk and 2 small fish ponds. I did see a 3 carp but caught nothing which is probably down to me. Only a couple of pegs you can fish from.
The site has some cracking camping pitches amongst trees near the ponds.
Getting to the site from the main roads is easy, you just turn straight off the A31 dual carriageway and down the lane.
I always judge my trip on weather I would return and yes I would.

Spent a long weekend on this lovely site with friends who have a caravan. Arrived in pouring rain but staff were very friendly and helpful. The site was well kept and the facilities clean and tidy. The walk around the lakes was very pleasant. The only problem we found was that the pitches weren't marked out. Our friends were told they must put the wheel of their van on the concrete stone, which they did, however, not many others had done so. If pitches had been marked out, it would have been easier. Spent Saturday pm in Boscombe in the sunshine which was lovely.

This site has many excellent features including immaculately clean toilet and shower block, peace and quiet, friendly staff and space. However, there were one or two slight drawbacks to this site that aren't detailed. The site is listed as an adults only site, fair enough, but I asked if my partners children could come on site for five minutes to see the new tent before we went for a meal. The answer was no! Slightly draconian if you ask me! The reason I was given was that if others saw them they would complain! And yet despite stating strongly that dogs must be kept on leads at all times except in the woods, a rule I followed strictly! I saw many other people didn't bother and allowed their dogs off lead to walk around, a lot of these people were regulars or long staying caravan owners!
When I was pitching the tent I bent many of my pegs because under approximately two inches of top soil seems to be every rock in dorset! Walking around I noticed nearly all other tents only had their pegs in about two inches too!
I was placed in area D which was fine for me, although as it's fairly close to the lakes I ended up with a lot of insect bites and a neighbour left his doors open to his tent because the sun made it so hot inside, but soon realised this was a mistake as his tent ceiling was completely covered with flies and insects. He ended up popping to a nearby shop and buying a fly spray to rid his tent of them! Keep your fly nets closed at all times to avoid this!

We have just returned from a great weekend at this site. The good points were:
Very quiet and peaceful
Toilets were spotless and water was lovely and hot and there was nice soap and hand cream free to use
Dish washing facilities were good
The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful
Pitches were very big
The whole place was very well kept
The pitch and putt is a great idea and caused great amusement
The lakes were lovely
The wildlife was plentiful
We could choose which pitch we wanted
There were freshly cooked pizzas on the Friday evening and Fish and Chips were available on the Saturday evening.
There is nothing negative to say.
I would definitely recommend the site and we will certainly be returning soon.
