August 2005 Back of Beyond is hard to spot straight off a difficult roundabout down a terrible potholed lane.
We were camping in one of the small fields around the main site - chosen for its quiet surroundings.... Unfortunately some fellow campers (just on the border of adulthood I suspect) chose to bring a lot deeply objectionable music and played it loud enough to notice past 2am.
The showers were acceptable in one block (although fellow campers again failed to use the mop provided after them). The other block had a fair amount of mold and flip flops were a necessity.
But the most annoying thing (an sadly not unique to this site) are those ridiculous basin taps that only work while being pressed so hard you are unable to do anything else – probably very environmentally friendly – but useless.
The owner also chose to charge 25p (to charity) for each freezer pack, but the freezer failed to live up to its name and all we got were cold liquid packs.
I suppose my main problem was bad luck to find what I think is a very beautiful site in need of a good clean and some less noisy neighbors - and that includes the A31 which is surprisingly noisy for ½ a mile away.
6/10

July 2005 My wife and I choose Back of Beyond for a long weekend break attracted by its close proximaty to the New Forest and the fact it was adults only. We had some years of camping with children and really just fancied not having any around for once. The site was easy to find having downloaded the map but the path up to the site was a little pot holed and required care to negotiate.
There is a barrier at the entrance with a entryphone system so we felt it was secure which was reassuring. The owner was helpful, friendly and knowledgable about the local facilities and keen to tell us what was available on site. I noted a small stock of basics in reception and was informed that fresh bread was available, baked I believe on site.
Best of all was the choice of pitches. We were asked to wander round and pick a place and told the pros and cons of each area. It was obvious looking around that you could pick a very isolated and quiet spot in one of the fields if desired but even in the main field there was loads of space and we never got the feeling of being hemmed in.
There was very little pressure on any of the facilities except at times the washing up area, the toilets and showers being plentiful and very clean. There was no charge for the showers. All these areas had been built and decorated tastfully recently as I understand.
There is a woodland walk which took us about twenty minutes and a pitch and put course which we thought about doing but run out of time. There is a pub or two within walking distance but the weather being rather poor at this time we settled for relaxing quietly in the tent with a bottle or two.
Easy travel distance to all parts of the New Forest and Bournemouth/Poole area.

July 2005 22 - 24 July 05. Nice quiet site, able to pick own pitch. Owners friendly and helpful. In fact all as on previous reviews, though lane not quite as bad as I expected. Only small niggle were the few dog owners who walked their dogs in the open ground behind our tent tnen didn't clear up, sure they could have found somewhere away from the pitches if they tried. I am a dog owner by the way.
Would certainly go back.

July 2005 Our first camping trip of the year! We decided to try this adults only site approximately, 11 miles from Poole, which proved to be a very good move indeed. The staff are helpful and friendly and allow you to chose your own pitch. There are many "seasonal pitches" which on first arrival make the site look quite busy, however most of the vans on our stay were empty.
The ground is soft to about 3" and then very hard underneath and full of stones. All the pitches are flat. There appeared to be 3 fields to chose from but to have the use of hook-up you need to be in the big field. The pitches are all generous.
There are fishing lakes within a nature area adjacent to the big field. We walked the pitch and putt course but to be honest some of the greens left alot to be desired. The very slight noise from the A31 is not intrusive at all. The toilets and showers are all clean and there was plenty of free hot water. In an adjacent field are a herd of deer which were beautiful.
We do have two gripes (although we saw evidence of one of them being seen to). Firstly the sign posting is dreadful and the site could very easily be missed. If coming from Ringwood you do not turn right at the roundabout but go back on yourself and take an instant left, which leads on to our second gripe. The approach to the site is a long and heavily potholed lane. We pile our gear into the car which renders us close to the ground. The lane made it a nervy and bouncy ride. We did see a chap filling in the holes but he's taken on quite a big job! I would think a caravan would bounce around like a rubber ball (tip: take extra care when packing your crockery and glassware!) However, overall these pale into minor irratations because of the peace and quiet that this site affords. I think we'll be back. 7/10

May 2005 This is without doubt one of the most peaceful & quiet sites we have ever visited. Although our stay was over a busy bank holiday & the site was 'full' there was plenty of space around all of the units & the peace was never disturbed.
On arrival you are given a choice of pitches, ranging from open to under the trees, all flat. The shop only stocks a small range of things but they are the type of item you are likly to forget in the rush to start your break. Mel & Sue are always there with a helpfull hand & smile.
If you should feel like a drink or food you only need to walk 1/4 mile down the road to the other site in the area, who are happy to serve you. If I was to be very critical I could point out you can hear the trafic on the A31, but I should also say that this due to the quiet of the site, you soon fail to notice this noise. I also endorse the other reviews of this site.

May 2005 This is an excellent campsite, we've just spent the bank holiday there and didn't want to leave. Nice and quiet with clean facilities (even a mop provided in the showers so you can clean after yourself for the next person, which was a great idea).
It's not that well signed but the entrance is shared with Shamba campsite and is on the A31 heading towards Ringwood. There are plenty of roundabouts to double back on if you are coming from the other direction, like we were. We thoroughly recommend a stay here!

April 2005 Excellent adults only site very quiet and well maintaned with good facilities set in own area of woodland offering short 1/2 hour on site walking in the woods. Access road is very potholed and bumpy but worth the wear and tear. Ideal if you fancy getting away from it all. An electric security barrier protects the site for which you need to pay a refundable deposit of £10 for a swipe card to get in and out.

April 2005 This is our sort of camp. We stayed for four nights over May Day Bank Holiday. The camp is difficult to find as it is not that well signposted (council restrictions) and is up a long, rough dirt track (you need to go past Shamba campsite to find it). But it's well worth it when you get there. It is very spacious, flat, very quiet and has an abundance of wildlife. There were rabbits scampering around as we were pitching up. You can pitch where you want, on the caravan field or a bit "wilder" under the trees, as there is plenty of room.
The toilet and shower blocks look like they've just been refurbished with a bit of finishing work left to do. They are cleaned very regularly. The showers are free, hot and forceful, but really need a shower curtain in the cubicle to stop the rest of your stuff getting wet from the force. There are only two wash-up sinks (both indoors) and at times over a busy bank holiday weekend you had to queue. There is a washing machine, tumble dryer and ironing board in the block (tokens from reception) for those that need them.
Shops, pubs and restaurants are all a short drive away and there is a bus stop at the end of the lane. Loads to do and see in the area, and I would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone who likes very quiet, child-free camping. We will return.

March 2005 A lovely clean site ... good (free) showers hair dryers etc. Spacious pitches which you can select for yourself. Large dog walk. Friendly helpful owners. Good security.
The drive in to the site (1/2 mile from road) leave something to be desired but worth the effort

June 2004 This is a good place to spend the weekend or just an over night stop over. With woods to walk the dog and very clean toilets it has all you need for a child free stay. The pitches are well spread so you don't look into next doors window. We thought the new owners very nice and we hope to get back to visit again soon.
