Just returned from a week at Kelling Heath.
Overall, a great site - lots to do on site and in the surrounding area.
Good bits
=========
1. Lots of off-road trails round the site for family cycling. Several cycle routes can be got from the cycle hire place, which start from the site and go off into the surrounding area.
2. Well stocked shop.
3. Decent outdoor pool (with band system to prevent too much over-crowding).
4. Decent bar and restaurants, with soft-play area for young kids (so you can get happily sloshed while they play).
5. Lots of planned entertainment - bands most evenings, nightly bat walks, crafty things for small kids and all free of charge.
6. Decent toilet blocks.
Bad bits
========
1. When busy, the site can feel a bit cramped (but true of all sites in my experience) and toilet blocks can get dirty, before the cleaners get there.
2. Large groups are allowed so can get a little noisy if you're pitched next to one (but we had no specific problems).
3. With bars/restaurants/play areas, site doesn't get quiet until 11pm, so be warned if that annoys you. Personally, I thought it was fine.
4. Indoor pool stupidly expensive - £30 for a family of 4 for one day!
5. The staff can get a little over-zealous with the rules, in my opinion - they let 8 of us into the outdoor pool but made me wait 15 minutes for one other person to leave before they'd let me join my family (and I wasn't even swimming!).
I would also highly recommend the burger at the Dun Cow pub, about 5 miles from the site along the coast road - the best burger ever!
Great site and one of the few we will probably return to.

We spent 4nights over the Royal Wedding Weekend. We were pitched in the Red Squirrel area, which meant that our pitch was surrounded by people with dogs without knowing this.
We were on a serviced pitch which came as standard. The pitches are good size for our large tent (7x6m).
The facilities are adequate, but were unheated in the Red Squirrel Area and some seemed to be coming up to requiring refurbishment.
We took our bikes and got loads of use from them around the site on the marked cycle routes which our 5 year old loved.
The site is ideally located for the towns of Sheringham, Cromer and attractions such as Bilderwood. We visited Sheringham Park with our bikes, which is a great place for walking, picnics and a bike ride.
The smaller children’s play area is located in the centre of the camping area, however due to the age of the children we had to accompany them to the play area due to its remoteness.
If you visit you need to bring a torch as there are no lights at night which is great for star watching but you need to watch your step when taking a small child to the toilet at 3am in the morning.

Just got back from a lovely three night stay at Kelling Heath. Site was very busy but fortunately we had booked one of the premium pitches on the quieter end of the Red Squirrel area.
The pitch itself was great - not overlooked and plenty big enough for large tent, car, bikes & trailer. The shower/toilet block was close and handy and although it was a BH weekend the water was hot and queues minimal.
Children were very disappointed that the advertised Saturday Disco was replaced by the football - on a TV with very dodgy sound at that. We joined the Health Club and the pool was lovely as always.
It is our first visit since the shop/reception area has been redesigned and the improvement was noticable. Definitely a better choice of goods in the shop - coffee cake to die for!
One change which we didn't appreciate was the need to book tables to eat in the Terrace bar - this is something that perhaps should be pointed out when booking your holiday as by the time you arrive on site it's too late to get a table! We settled for Brackens takeaway and were pleasantly surprised.
Only other slight grumble was the idiots sending up Chinese lanterns a few feet from our tent during the longest dry spell this county has seen in years - it is in the welcome pack that this is not allowed but sadly some chose to ignore.
Good to see wristbands in operation to prevent the cheeky devils staying at Breck Farm coming acoss to use the facilities.

Just returned from a 3 night stay [booked 4nights] but very windy on quite an exposed area [red squirrel field].
This is only area allowing dogs.Rest of site is very nice with good woodland walks and excellent facilities, showers / toilets up to date and very clean.
Nearby Sherringham and Cromer within a few miles of the site, but if you want to stay on site there is quite a good variety of things to do and options for food etc.

Stayed at Kelling Heath from the 17th - 21st April 2011 after being recommended to it by neighbours. We had never been camping before but had a good sized tent and basic equipment for 2 boys 6 & 11 and 2 adults.
What a fabulous place. Anyone that under-rates this place needs a reality check. Its wonderful. Amazing woodland setting, great facilities, immaculate shower / toilet blocks, cycle hire, swimming pool, shop, bars, restaurants etc, etc.
Plenty of space between the pitches and fabulous facilities for the kids, there's a couple of large adventure playgrounds, fishing ponds and great walks.
Its about a 10 minute drive to the coast situated between Holt and Sheringham, about a 10 minute drive to Cromer. Wonderful coastline.
As first time campers, we had a wonderful time and would thoroughly recommend this site to anyone else visiting the Norfolk area. We honestly couldn't fault the place and will definitely be returning.

Stayed at Kelling Heath overnight at a weekend - to test the motorhome after a winter lay-up. It was their opening weekend
Site is lovely - wooded and heathland setting, plenty of walks and cycling both on and off site. Cycled to the coast at Weybourne past Weybourne station and back on the footpath through the woods at Kelling Heath where the site has a dedicated halt for the railway.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. New shop and reception for this season - there are local products for sale including chillis from Weybourne
Three places to eat - we ate in the Forge bar/restaurant. Good food including local food, reasonable cost, friendly service
Health and Fitness Club looked good - time didn't permit use. There is a charge to use it:£10.50 per day but the charge is well publicised and other reviewers who have whinged about the cost would have known about it beforehand. It is a 'private' club not one dedicated for tourers
Being early in the season some things were not yet open: the steam railway and the cycle hire facility - it would have been helpful if copies of the cycle trails had been available for sale in the shop
The advantage of the early season was that it was very quiet and peaceful - I expect it is very different in school holidays. In the meantime our only disturbance was a fox barking at 3 in the morning!
Lovely place - will return

What beautiful surroundings!
We spent a long weekend at Kelling Heath with our sons. They could safely go off on their bikes.
The staff were pleasant and helpful. Places to eat, shop on site.
We took our dog, the designated dog walking area was very pleasant, not like some where the dog walking area is dirty and unkempt.
There were some lovely walks to be had, lovely to walk amongst the heather and be greeted be wonderful views.

Lovely site spread out with plenty of trees and open space. The site was at least 90% full and hence you were quite close to neighbouring tents but the facilities were well kept with cleaning at least 3 times a day and loads of showers (rather small for me and 2 kids - a family one would have been brilliant).
Village centre away from tourers so it didn't feel like a big site, lovely cycle routes around site. Outdoor pool good, but queues so go early. Got quite muddy on site after 36 hours solid rain but understandable.
Evening entertainment variable but kids enjoyed and shop very well stocked and reasonable prices. I would have liked to see a security barrier on arrival. Would recommend. We were in blue butterfly - nice but if you can get a large pitch facing meadow at edge of blue butterfly would be great.

I think we must have stayed on a different campsite to previous reviews as our experience wasn't great.
We were on the Red Squirrel area, as it was school holidays it felt very crammed in, even though it is a huge site. We were next to the recycling bins and a water tap. There were no hedges and no privacy.
There were queues for the showers and toilets often dirty. The weather was mixed so paid over £40 for 3 of us to use the indoor pool for 3 days!
On a positive, the bar food was good and reasonably priced and the shop well stocked. The local area superb, miles of sandy beaches and pretty villages and excellent seafood.
We would go back to the area for sure, but not the campsite, we prefer smaller more friendly campsites. This was the most expensive we have stayed at and don't believe it was good value for money.

A fantastic site set in beautiful heath and woodland. Natural rustic surroundings. We only live 23 miles away but have returned every year as the site feels like a real getaway and could be anywhere in the UK.
There is lots to do suitable for all ages- swimming pools inside and out. Gym, tennis courts, nature trails, orienteering, clubhouse, bar, amusements, table tennis, and many special extra events e. G. Bat walks.
The site is best enjoyed using cycles as it is so vast. Children of all ages enjoy more freedom in relaxed surroundings. There are large playing fields, assault course and play areas.
Tots to teens have plenty to do. A steam train passes by the site with a station at Kelling Heath.
The toilet and shower blocks are cleaned and checked regularly with plenty of hot water always available. Washing-up facilities are kept clean and tidy too.
We have enjoyed many happy holidays at Kelling Heath. The surrounding areas include lovely coastline and beaches, and many places of interest.
