Our 3rd visit to Kelling Heath and there was still lots to do. We were on the red field (dog field) not dog lovers but only pitches they had 2 together they do get booked up quick. Dogs not a problem at all. Second time on this field.
Quite good size pitch for our kahalahri 8 and the utility tent but they do expect you to get the car on too which is a bit of a squeeze because we had 2 pitches side by side it was just manageable.
A warden man explained the strictness in pitching fire regs and so on and said next year they plan to make some more super size pitches which would be good for families. There are much bigger pitches but think they get booked up a year in advance. The tent stood up to some bad winds and a few downpours at night field was good in the morning well drained.
Showers clean as usual but this time some of the buttons not working properly(yellow block) all soaped up and water dribbled out had to have a few cold showers too. However my partner didn't have the same problem in the mens he suggested sensor showers on the questionnaire which I suggest you fill in. There was not a stool in each shower which made it difficult for mum who has walking difficulties there are disabled facilities but she can manage if there is a stool.
One change we did not like, but understood why they have introduced it, was we had to wear wrist bands, we kept ours with us at all time but put them on the kids. Campers from a cheaper site come across the fields / woods to use the facilities and showers as they have to pay to use the loos / showers on their site.
There are some very nice security guards on the door of the bar/restaurant who check the wrist bands. We were told if you didn't have it you could be asked to leave the site. This was the only times we wer asked to show them though.
Kids enjoyed the play grounds, arcaded, tennis £5 an hour you can rent 4 rackets for £5 and £5 refundable deposit.A rchary £5 fishing £2 however pity they don't sell fishing bait on site had to go all way to Cromer to get some.We took kids bike and mine rented mens bike for £6 half day (1pm till 5pm) my bikes chain broke just as we set off they repaired it for £2 which was very helpful.
Meals were reasonable and good in the Forge and breakfast in the Brackens is good too 75p per item build your own breakfast.
All staff work long and hard and they are very polite and happy to help.

Good:
- Huge amount to do with some very good activities. We were there for 6 days with 2 young children & didn't even have time to go to the playground.
- Generally very well run.
- Some good scenery around site.
- Really liked the 'no street lighting' policy.
Not so good.:
- We were in the 'Red Squirrel' area. The pitches weren't large and the sight of rows of tents was a bit depressing. We did feel a bit packed in. If available, we'd definitely have paid the extra for the larger pitches.
Overall we'd go again, but in peak season only to the larger pitches.

We've just returned from a week at Kelling Heath with a large tent, 4 kids and a dog. We had a fantastic holiday, the facilities were brilliant; activities for the kids, entertainment in the evenings, good food available on site, decent shop, bike hire, free outdoor swimming pool. The perfect location overlooking Norfolk countryside with the sea in the distance, the beaches and beautiful villages of North Norfolk within easy reach and the highlight - the steam railway!
I can't believe just how much there was to do! One day we tried the archery which was over an hour of interesting info, instruction and loads of time to shoot arrows for a bargain price of £6 for adults and £5 for children - excellent value for money!
The shower blocks were always clean, the hot water plentiful and free - although in some it only lasted 14 seconds so you had to keep pressing the button - but I never had to wait for a shower. The site never felt too crowded.
The holiday would have been completely perfect except for a couple of small things. We were on Red Squirrel area; which was lovely as it was near the viewpoint, but it really needed some trees planted. There was no shade to be had from the sun which made the tent too hot and it was too uncomfortable to sit outside the tent for long - so there was no relaxing to be had on sunny days! We also had a issue with inside swimming. The leisure centre had a tariff that included all the facilities: steam room, sauna, Jacuzzi, fitness room and indoor pool. But all our kids wanted was an indoor swim one day, so we paid over £20 for them! Excessive. Then we were told that they had to be supervised by a parent. The poolside was unbearably hot for the fully clothed and we couldn't stay in there to supervise for long and so the kids had 20 mins before we had to give in and transfer them to the outside pool. More trouble - we were asked to take everything out of their lockers before we could go outside to swim! What a palava! We didn't pay for the inside pool again. The outside pool was free, although needs to be bigger. There was often a queue waiting to use the pool. We were peeved about having to constantly supervise the swimming. Our kids (11 and 12) are accomplished swimmers and we operate a buddy system for safety when swimming, also the pools had fantastic lifeguards who were very professional
However, these were really the only issues we had. The staff were very helpful and overall the experience was really good so we will be going again, and next time leaving the dog with relatives so as to be able to camp on a more shady part of the site.

We arrived over Scottish school hols from Edinburgh, so camp was pretty quiet until the weekend we were leaving, when it filled up with English school holiday people. Although not too bad, we were all pretty glad we were leaving before it got horrendously busy as the shower block was noticeably busier towards the end of our visit. In saying that, they were really clean, and the dish washing facilities were great.
There was so much to do, the children really enjoyed the freedom to roam around, and we only managed 1 night out of 7 to the Forge, mainly because the weather was so good we had loads of barbeques.
The children loved the Bat Walk, and we're looking forward to coming back to enjoy the Nightjar walk in the coming summer. Only one criticism is that many of the activities for the children didn't start until the English schools had broken up, but we still managed to fill our time up.
All in all, it was a great first experience camping, and we've already booked up for this summer.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of a deal to celebrate 25 years so they had additional entertainment and a local beer festival.
We booked early so got good pitches half way between the showers and the centre.
The facilities were good and the kids enjoyed the outdoor pool, the only draw back is the one in one out policy which was in operation over most of the weekend and the maximum time allowed in was 90 minutes.
We ate at the main bar both nights and food was all ok.
Shop was well stocked at start of weekend, however by Sunday lunchtime was little use as most essentials had soled out.
The site was good for local walks and would look to come back next year.

Had a wonderful 3 nights here with our young son, we had a standard pitch in the blue butterfly area which was plenty big enough for our Vermont L and the car with lots of space to sit outside and for our son to run around.
The site is huge and divided up by wooded areas, there was a large open area with climbing frames and a slide, the on site shop was very well stocked and sold most things you might need (lovely Ice Cream tubs).
We didn't use the outdoor pool which is included in the pitch price (It was very busy sat )
The walks around the site are really nice and is worth timing it see the steam train go past (poppy line) you can catch it back to Sherringham.
Cromer, Sherringham and Holt are all very close, Holkham beach is a lovely big flat beach and west runton had rock pools and lovely sand.
All in all we would definitely recommend it and will be returning.

This was our 5th visit to Kelling Heath and we love this place.
We always stay in the Blue Butterfly area, furthest from the village square and amenities, though well served by a spacious, clean shower block. This area seems a little more natural and is close to walks into the woods or across the heathland.
As pitches are set up around trees and natural features they do vary in size, some are huge, others much smaller. The pitches are flat, well maintained and due to the dry heathland setting well drained so don't get muddy and waterlogged. All pitches have EHU.
On the Yellow and Red areas there are also some extra large pitches, and some fully serviced pitches with EHU, water and TV point. The Red Squirrel area also allows dogs
This site truly has something for everyone, 2 fantastic children's play areas, one in woods behind the leisure club, one on an open central playing field.
There are good walks both on, and off site. You can catch the Steam train at the halt, taking you into Sheringham. The Steam train won't stop on the way to Holt as the hill is too steep, but you can catch the diesel service instead. The Coastal Hopper bus which passes right along the coast also now calls in on site too so if you have a motorhome, or just fancy leaving the car it's easy to get about.
Nearby you have the pretty georgian town of Holt, The pretty seaside resorts of Sheringham & Cromer and a few miles to Wells and Holkham you have stunning beaches.
Just offshore they are starting construction of a new windfarm.
Toilet blocks are clean and well maintained. I like the fact that they use motion sensors on lights and solar power to keep them efficient. Plenty of showers and sinks and a large area for washing up.
We stayed midweek and the site was quiet, though it was filling up as we left on the Friday.
There is a well stocked shop on site, not as over-priced as we have often seen though a little more expensive than big chain supermarkets.
There is a good bar menu, a proper restaurant and Brackens, serving cooked breakfasts, snacks and pizza. We tended to cook for ourselves but in the past have treated ourselves on our last morning to a very good cooked breakfast.
There is a leisure club on site with indoor pool, sauna, steamroom, hot-tub and gym. You need to buy a pass for this. Or during summer months it's free to use the outdoor pool.
There is cycle hire available on site too.
The setting is very natural and you can expect to spot all sorts of wildlife. One evening a deer trotted casually past our tent.
Having been here 5 times in 3 years we are probably going to try a few new places and give Kelling a break for now. But this is one of the best sites I have visited and we will be back.

We had heard such good things about Kelling Heath that we decided to give it a go. When we arrived we also decided to book my parents in in their unit when we arrived. The booking process was easy although the receptionists were a little bit 'formal'. The pitch and site itself was lovely and they located my parents as close to us as they could.
We used one of the woodland trails to go for a walk and found the exercise equipment route to be good fun, although charging £1 for the photocopied paper it was on seemed a little steep considering we had already paid a lot to be there.
We went into Holt on the train which was a nice day out (but Holt centre is about a 15 min walk from the station). The train also goes the other way to Weybourne and Sheringham which is a great way to sight-see if you are not local.
We did not go over to the entertainment in the evening as the weather was nice so we sat outside the van. We did want to play table tennis on the tables provided out in the courtyard, but you could not hire bats and balls you had to buy them from the shop - we didn't bother as we didn't want to buy them as wouldn't use them again. It wouldn't have hurt to have them on a deposit scheme from reception. My dad wanted to go for a swim but you had to sign up for use of the gym for the day or something like that which would have cost about £10 which was too much just for a swim.
The facilities were clean and well laid out.
The site itself is great and a beautiful location, I just felt that having paid a lot more than usual for the pitch, it was disappointing that they seemed to be cashing in on the other things such as the maps and table tennis (as examples) which I felt should have been included.
We may return at some point, but probably not for a while as there are plenty of other sites in great locations to try at half the price.

This was the venue of our first family camping trip and it was only the weather that disappointed us!
Plots were a little snug but the setting was beautiful.
The facilities were clean and although the site was busy, never had to queue for long.
There is plenty for the children to do and lots of lovely walks within the park.
I would recommend this site and we will be returning as we did not see and do everything in our long weekend.

I've seen this great site evolve over the years to become a great among greats. Its showers and toilets are immaculate, the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful and the shop and bar have everything you could ever need. This site even has a steam railway station in its' midst!.
The only down side (although not to some people) is it's about 2M to the beach.
