An element of shock and trepidation washed over me as I walked into the large reception of the ‘Village Square’. Yes, I knew it was a large campsite with lodges and lots of facilities, but not having visited their own website, I hadn’t realised how large. Ah well, it’s only for one night, let’s be open minded. So we followed the one-way system to our allocated pitch, the cheapest on offer, but we were not too disappointed. A nice large area, only marred by the large parched area left by previous long-stay awnings. So being a quiet mid-week stop, we took the risk of ignoring the detailed instructions of how to position the van (knowing we might be instructed to move), and itched closer to the neighbouring tent so that we could step out onto grass – still leaving at least 7m fire-gap!
I maintain that visiting this site when busy would not be my thing – far too many pitches, but when quiet, it has its plus points. Lots of great facilities in the touring area, lots of loos and showers, washing up points, water taps, motorhome service points. You can’t fault the natural environment in which Kelling Heath sits, and it’s well worth following on to the walking trails … but that’s not necessary, I spotted a Jay in bushes near the facility block !
Sadly we didn’t have time to try the health club and pool, - much of the sports facilities are not included in the pitch price, which in itself was very high already. We did nip into the bar area and considered having some food there, but the staff were so slack in their service that it would have taken forever … and we couldn’t even locate the full menu, just see the specials board. I suspect that during the week, the bars/restaurants are mainly used by regulars with lodges.
A great example of what large caravan parks ought to be, and worthy holders of a Gold David Bellamy award and Gold Eco Tourism mark, but too big and regimented still for me.

Absolutely fantastic site. All the amenities you would want for a campsite including shop, pool, bar and restaurant, pizza bar which included takeaway, gym and fitness. The pitch was standard but very large. The toilet blocks were fantastic. So up to date and always very clean. Staff were all very friendly. Would definitely recommend this site and am planning to go back next year.

5th time to Kelling and it's just as good. We don't tend to use the on site facilities much but the Saturday local producers fair, on site mini market and the table tennis are always good. Great base to explore the North Norfolk area which is just lovely. Yellow area is the best, the new showers are much better. All in all highly recommended

This is one of the campsites our kids will have loads of memories of we love it.
Taken dogs every time so only stayed on the dog friendly pitches. Plots are great we have had tents and a caravan over the years on the pitches. Great size between each one.
They are clean and tidy plots even in busy times.
The toilet block and wash facilities are fantastic always clean and tidy.
The walks we have had are so good you can get lost in the fabulous walks and loose a day just exploring the kids and dogs love that. Great for bikes and hikes.
The pool is free outside which when the weather is nice would recommend and the tennis courts are good fun.
Evening entertainment is so chilled listening to live music outside is fabulous.
Over the years of going have seen it get a little bit more commercial how ever if it doesn't change this will stay a great place to make even more memories.

Lovely clean site. Plenty of walks. Great fishing for the children. Nice parks. The on site pub is very pricey and a bit fancy for campers that just want a nice simple pub lunch. Expensive for families generally. Expensive for dogs. You cant just pay for use of indoor pool you need a full gym membership. Mixed feelings. I think the site could be a lot more affordable family friendly.

Friendly welcome at reception. Toilets/showers spotless. All members of staff in shops, bars etc. Very helpful and pleasant. Main issue was total absence of any form of lighting on access to toilet blocks at night and to someone who has mobility problems this presented a real danger, it should be addressed without delay. Also lack of signs on arrival indicating where to park car/caravan before registering at reception. Overall very good, would recommend to friends.

Fabulous, albeit large commercial site. Always a buzz of activity in the air yet retains a relaxing vibe. Great shower blocks with heated floors. Nice adventure park for children plus the outdoor pool (which can get busy) The bar/restaurant are ok, as are the shop.
Not too pricy either. Chilled evening music in the bandstand is wonderful. A special mention for Dave Doughnut the children's entertainer.
Brilliant for adults and kids alike. Local area excellent. Great pool in Sheringham with slides and wave machines. Great walks on site. My only gripe is the price, quite high.
But you do get plenty of bang for your buck

We visit Kelling Heath year after year. The facilities are excellent and shower blocks recently upgraded. It's a large site but split into sections so it doesn't seem busy. The setting is gorgeous with beautiful purple Heath land walks. There's a busy centre where there's a shop, restaurant, take away, out door and indoor pool, bike hire and very friendly staff in reception. Great central location for exploring the North Norfolk coast.
The best site I have ever been to and have been coming here before children. Have tent camped and now bring our small touring caravan. My kids are now 14 and they still enjoy it and bring their friends along. Wonderful place!

We arrived at Kelling Heath on Sunday lunchtime, easy to find and very helpful staff on the reception desk. Due to the width of our FC with the annexe on we were not sure if we would be able to pitch in the direction they wanted us to so they sent a member of staff over to discuss it at the pitch with us, very impressed with how helpful and polite they were.
Never having been there before we were not sure what to expect, especially as there are over 400 statics on the site. However, as it turned out pretty much all of these are hidden away in the woods so we needn’t have worried about that.
We were in the “yellow” area, lovely new toilet blocks and what seemed like very spacious pitches, more on that later. The main “village” was only a couple of minutes walk away and the two children's playgrounds were also minutes away.
The walks within the woods and on the heath were fantastic, nice and quiet with quite a lot of marked trails to follow if you wanted, including a trim trail. There is a platform on site that has the Steam Railway stop as well, the kids loved watching the steam engine go past as well as checking out the frogs and so forth in the pond!
The shop on site was in our opinion over priced for most items, which was disappointing as its not like they are in a remote location. For those that don’t want to pay the inflated prices there is a supermarket in Holt a few minutes down the road as well as larger supermarkets (Morrisons & Lidl) in Cromer about 7 miles away.
We got the feeling that the site was there to extract the most amount of money that they could from you, £11 each to use the indoor pool, £5 per hour to use the tired looking tennis courts, £4 a wash in the laundry, you had to buy your own bats/balls for the table tennis tables and no free wifi……. All of which would be fair enough if it wasn’t £41 a night for the pitch – this was for a larger pitch but not the fully serviced ones.
We met a few people and we’d been saying how wonderful and relaxing it was and they asked us if we had been there at the weekend (which we hadn’t at that point) and they said wait till the weekend. Come Friday night we understood just what they meant. Its like two parks in one – Sunday afternoon till Friday lunchtimes its lovely and peaceful with plenty of space, come the weekend its horrendous. What we thought were spacious pitches all had others backing onto them and it resembled a car park more than a campsite, the “entertainment” was some awful band whose blaring sound could be heard over the whole campsite till about 10pm…….
That being said it must have appealed to a lot of people who liked that sort of thing, but having enjoyed the quiet relaxing campsite turn into a loud blaring car park it was a bit of a shock.
We did enjoy the stay though apart from the last evening so we would go back again but make sure that we were not there on a weekend or during the English school holidays.
The toilet block only appears to be cleaned once a day which means when there is filth spread all over the floor/wall/pan then it sits there stinking, as did the blocked toilets until the next day. With so many pitches I think that once a day is very poor for cleaning the facilities.
When we arrived on Sunday all the large refuse / recycling bins were full to overflowing, these stayed like that till Wednesday when they were emptied, again if you are busy pay for more collections of put more bins in.
Plenty of things to do and see in the area and slightly further afield or simply just relax on site (not at the weekend though ☺ )

We enjoy visiting this site and will return. We found the pitches to be a good size and the general feel of the site is good. The bar area and restaurant served good food and the children's entertainment appealed to our 5 year old.
The toilets and showers are clean and always had hot water regardless of the time of day.
The children's play area behind the swimming pool is very good - wooden climbing frames, swings, slides and 'adventure course' and there was plenty to do on there for my 1 year old and 5 year old.
All in all, we enjoyed this site and a day trip to Sheringham on the steam train. It isn't a cheap day out, but really worth it when the weather is good.
They have a little market on in the square - not sure how often but it attracts local traders and you can by some treats.
The shop is fine for a campsite shop, plenty to choose from.
To summarise I would say this site has something for everyone but rather than be 'loud' and full on, it has a rustic feel making it feel more relaxed and countrified!
