Stayed for a second visit here for a weekend event on the steam railway, very convenient for Kelling Halt and Weybourne Stations.

Our allocated pitch was 70% mud, visited reception and alternative pitch offered no qualms, although most pitches in the area that all vans were concentrated were similar, do they concentrate dog owners in a crappy kept area? so not impressed for the tariff charged.

£3.15 per night for the dog, what a joke, nothing provided. Usual extortionate overcharge for awnings in excess of top pitch prices £20.75 in low season.

£11 per day or £17 per person for 3 days for a swim in leisure centre. Over the top bar prices, worst kept real ales I have tasted in a long while, poor service when busy, waited for ages. Didn't eat as were so appalled by ale quality.

The plus points, good location, the heath area is wonderful, (not part of site incidentally but open access). Looks to be lots of organised activities on the nature front for kids in high season.

North Norfolk Railway is wonderful, check out the different events, dog friendly also.

I feel this site hides behind its conversational ethos to charge sky high prices but offers very little, I wouldn't consider staying here in high season on price £34 per night minimum plus £5 for awning £5 for dog, total £44 for 2 berth campervan and dog(no thanks) and row upon row of pitches with little grass on.

This site could be excellent with a little more care and attention in all departments.

Will I visit again, probably, because of its location next to NNR of which I am fan, do I rate this site, a definite NO !

Had a fantastic week in Kelling Heath. Large site but with a feel of a small site with larger site facilities. We chose a pitch in the long field right at the bottom of the site opposite the playing field. It was perfect. Spacious, decent area for kids to play. Used swimming pool on Saturday as it was quiet due to people only just arriving. I believe that it is quite busy usually and there is a time limit to make it fair. Got bikes out for the day and the men at the bike hire were really helpful. Overstrand is a lovely beach if you like the quieter beach perfect for playing games and building sandcastles. Would recommend Kelling Heath to everyone. Its perfect. I never had to queue for a shower and they were always clean. Blue block showers are the nicest.

Just returned from a week here with 2 adults, 2 children (7&9) and a dog. People have said before that the area is remote but we didn't think so, we walked to Weybourne Station then caught the steam train between Holt and Sheringham. Holt is really pretty and has a good supermarket there (Budgens), Sheringham is great too but very busy.

Holkham Hall is worth a visit, the beach there is sandy and allows dogs, quite a trek from the car park to the beach though. Holkham village is very pretty albeit tiny, a lovely woodland playground at the hall for kids and lots of other things to do there.

Now to the site itself, on the way in there are some huge speed bumps which were awkward to negotiate with a caravan. Toilets were dated but kept very clean, we were in the red area but used the yellow area toilet block. Quite a walk to waste water area and could do with more water taps about.

This is not a site to visit if you want peace and quiet it was the loudest site I have ever visited although apart from one night it was very quiet after 11pm. Take torches as it is pitch black at night. Sports field and playgrounds were great, we hired bikes on site for the kids and felt happy to let them go about on their own.

There is no barrier on site and loads of people were having car loads of visitors coming and going and staying then using the facilities for free thus making them busy.

Lots of activities on site but the numbers allowed were too small for such a big site - lots of activities only took 12 people.

Live music in the square was nice, take your own drinks and glasses to keep costs down. Little market in the square on Sunday morning for local producers, would have liked to buy something but £3 for a loaf of bread is too much for a northerner.

All in all we had a good time, the local area is beautiful, steam train is worth a ride (buy tickets on site for discounted price), pitches are big but too close to each other and only a handful have any hedging to separate and make private. The site is huge and lacks any community spirit which you get on smaller sites and which we enjoy.

Had a lovely week here at Kelling Heath. We stayed in Red Squirrel area as that was the only area left when we booked. However, would not voluntarily choose this area as there were lots of dogs but mainly because the loo/shower block is old & quite dirty - saw a lady cleaning it with a cloth but no detergent etc so it couldn't be that clean! The washing up facilities were also poor, water pressure v low and water luke warm. Loved the site though overall and are going back next year but have selected pitches in Yellow Dragonfly area, which is fab. Had no problem with the 10am leave time as we didn't get going til midday and no-one said anything. My tent was also too big for the pitch and it strayed well over its allowed area and no-one complained. Pitch 370b in Red Squirrel has a tree in it which makes pitching tricky and 388 is very small. Would recommend the Yellow and Blue areas, the pitches are larger (even the standard ones) & the facilities are better.

I have been coming to kelling heath since I was ten and have always loved coming back. Now with my Husband this was our second visit [the last one being 4 years ago] but it didn`t seem as great this time. The toilets and shower block as always was clean as was the all of the site. But as we like to travel early, we got there too early, but were unable to book in even though our pitch was empty. The receptionist was quick to tell me check in at 12, fair enough if some one was on the pitch. The village store is well stocked, staff are helpful, it is a little expensive but 90% of shops on campsites are. Last time we came we had many nice meals in the forge, now everything has brie or stilton on it, nice meals have now gone, posh nosh not to everyones taste. The beer, according to my husband, wasn't great even though we did see someone cleaning the lines one morning, maybe new glasses are needed. The site is lovely but may be another 4 years before we come again

Our first visit to this site and we had a great time. We utilised their '3 nights for the price of 2' offer so although only staying 2 nights we were able to make full use of our last day leaving around 5pm. I am glad we made use of this offer, otherwise a 10am departure is rather prompt. You can only request late departure on your final day (at 9am) by which time there is insufficient time to pack up. Facilities are good but would not want to stay in peak season - not enough showers or washing up facilities. These facilities were very clean and inspected regularly. The pitches were nice but we would upgrade to a larger one next time as it was a little snug - but our family tent is large! Kids wanted to swim but the leisure facilities were very over priced. I guess they do not want families using it (£11 per adult £ 5. 50 per child, no 'swim only' option). Husband and kids used the heated outdoor pool and I was informed it is ffffreezing. I took their word for it. Lovely play areas and walks and we spent a lot of time around the pond and watching for trains. Shop well stocked and takeaway tasty, prices are little high as you would expect in a remote location. We will be returning.

I will try to be as objective as possible:

Pitch was large but area for awning was bare to dirt in most places.

Wifi was advertised as being available around the main complex but on asking staff only available in bar area.

Restaurant was busy the bar next door was closed due to staff shortage. Had a few drinks in the bar to give you an idea of cost a bottle of Pinot £17. 95 same bottle at a supermarket £6-7. Shop was expensive had a look around was surprised at some of the prices.

The thing is its not like a caravan club site where you would find an information area that would tell you where to find supermarkets etc. They are a business trying to get you to spend your money there.

We always use everything on board our caravan which was fine with us as there are not many showers for the number of people.

Seems like there are plenty of staff that seem to drive around all day ticking off empty pitches.

Main thing that concerned me was lack of security, there are no barriers just drive in. It also seems pitches had multiple cars arriving for parties etc. We locked everything as we're not sure who was camping or just driving around.

Signs everywhere saying no ball games but did not seem to stop anyone.

You have to be off by 10 am which is early we did ask reception about leaving later but were asked to come back on Sunday morning at 9. 00 as there were not many people booked in and ask. If we had come back at 9. 00 and they had said no we would only have an hour to pack up so we got up early and left anyway. I can see the reason for this as the road in is narrow with not many places to pass only worn parts of the verge not laybys.

All in all probably would go back but very disappointed at the whole weekend however could see the attraction if it was a week holiday with the kids

We visited over May half-term / bank holiday weekend. We were a group of 4 adults and 4 children aged 6-9. We had a trailer tent and a tent, and stayed in the blue area.

Lovely lovely site. Will definitely go back!

Play area in touring fields was great, kids loved it. Nearly missed the one in the mobile home area (behind the back of the pool, check your map), was also great.

Facilities in blue field were fantastic. Visited red field and they looked a bit older and not as nice.

Inside pool wasn't cheap, but a 3 day pass was OK value and the kids enjoyed it. Didn't have to pay for parents watching at the side. Kids enjoyed free outdoor pool too.

General thoughtfulness around site was great - lots of sinks with draining racks and plugs to wash up, hand sanitiser beside loo disposal point etc.

Only faults - bar and restaurant - service was slow, and prices were mid range to high. Food service was really slow, and not amazing food. Probably Harvester / Beefeater standard. Wifi - don't rely on it. It was rubbish. Ten minutes to update a FB status. 3G was quicker. Couldn't get kindles to log on at all.

Security presence noted, and felt safe.

Shop well stocked, but v. Expensive. Budgens in Holt great.

Had a Quechua 4. 2 & XL gazebo, and no extra charge for gazebo (maybe just not noticed?). Late leaving pitch, wasn't mentioned (maybe just not noticed?).

Beach near Wells - Lady Anne's Drive? A trek from carpark, but gorgeous. Dunstable Arms pub in Sheringham - no more expensive than site pub, but gorgeous food and friendly staff!

DON'T FORGET your buckets, spades, crab lines and table tennis bats and balls.

We'll be back next time we can face the long drive!

We booked in advance for 2 nights requesting a quiet pitch. When we arrived and found our pitch, our exhaust pipe was no less than 18 inches from a family tent! Even though our motorhome is only 22 feet long the pitches are tight to say the least.

We were told we could 'upgrade' to a pitch opposite which was the same just with more brambles and another £5 a night. With many dozens of pitches empty we couldn't understand why we couldn't be recommended a pitch with a little more privacy - there is no refund for bookings under several hundred pounds so we had to stay there at a cost of £25 a night!

We usually stay on CLs, so this place had an appeal in that it resembles about a dozen CLs all stuck together but with modern, clean shower blocks. Leveling blocks are a necessity as it is mostly grass pitches which must puddle and get muddy when wet.

For motorhome owners it is miles from anywhere so you do need to be prepared to bike or take the motorhome out again if you want to sight-see, even though we are keen walkers it feels very remote - though the site itself must get very very busy especially if the many occupants of mobile homes are there too.

The 10. 00 am Leaving time does not contribute to a relaxing stay.

We decided the many 'facilities' e. G. Restaurant, pool etc were far too overpriced to try and a conversation with 2 other campers confirmed we were probably right to avoid them.

In fairness, we think this site probably has merits for families, but not for us, a couple looking for a quiet couple of nights with access to a reasonably priced bar/restaurant. It would also help if the reception staff had a little more knowledge about the site and pitches available.

Afraid this is one we certainly would not visit again, even at half the price.

Just returned from Kelling Heath with our family or four, kids are 6&7 years. We found the site to be huge, if you allow your kids free range to cycle the site you wont know where to start looking for them. Worryingly there is no defined boundary and could easily leave the site. The site has out grown its facility's the washrooms are average and get dirty very quickly after clean due to the volume of traffic, the showers are feeble (blue area) and without except we're just warm, there is no room in the cubicle for a child and adult at the same time and nothing to sit on. Washing up area is average mainly outside with push button taps and warm water not sufficiently warm to get grease of your pans. There is hardly any phone reception on the site and the free WIFI around the bar is a joke! The takeaway is a rip £2. 45 for a coffee! The swimming pool is too small for the amount of people on site. We paid for premium pitches and could see no benefit for the extra money it seem everyone was using our facilities regardless of the pitch. Overall just about average
