Just had 2 nights here. Great little site with everything you need. Well stocked shop with very friendly staff. Showers and washing up facilities served our needs. Lovely surroundings, the kids had great fun exploring. A few residential caravans could have done with a wash as some parts looked a bit scruffy but this did not affect our stay. Would definitely go back but hope to pitch on the flatter field as we were on a hill. Still managed to sleep and cook ok but we had to be gentle with the swingball.

Must agree with the comments of Flash. We found the pitch by the pool very relaxing but the more permanent fixtures make the site look scruffy. The people in the shop were most pleasant and helpful. We were made welcome at all times, had a great stay and found the place to be in a good location for walks and visits. There is a problem with the road down to the site when towing - very rough and narrow. To get off we had to stop traffic at the top to ensure we had a clear run. Also waste water facility could be better sited but all in all a good site and no evidence of the impolite staff mentioned in other reviews. The local pub is handy and well priced
Ps I must also mention the small but well stocked shop.

Just returned from our first visit to this site, we booked in for four nights. I have mixed feelings about the site.
On arrival it is a little disconcerting to see a large number of caravans huddled under very tall trees, these are the permanent residents and a lot of the caravans are in need of a wash and brush up to improve the image they display.
The site has a very good shop, small but well stocked, this is also the reception and on a morning of fine weather, where the residents gather for coffee.
The toilet facilities and pot washing facilities are also part of the same building as the shop and the laundry. During my stay the site was bereft of any other tourers, but I would imagine that on a weekend and other busy periods the facilities could struggle to cope, but I must say that I found them to be warm, clean and a pleasure to use.
There are ongoing improvements, for instance a second ablutions block and office are in the process of being built, as I can vouch for due to the excavating equipment being used well into the evening time.
The site has a lot of potential, and is ideal for visiting the surrounding countryside,it is located in a valley, at the bottom of a 'cart track' amongst what must be the tallest trees in the country, with a shallow river running through it.
The bus service was very good and only about half a mile's walk to the bus stop from the site. I would return, but not at a busy period.

Have just returned from a one night stay having bought a new tent and wanted to try it out. Beautiful place however field wasn't level so didn't have the best nights sleep but that was probably also due to the wind and rain.
Mixture of people from a group of girls, to a group of bikers. Lots of dogs but all well behaved and visits from the ducks!
Great little shop stocking everything you need we ran out of Pimms and they had some! Showers and toilets pretty basic but adequate.
Would definitely go back as close to home and great for a one night get away!

Myself and my husband were visiting family who live close by and this was the perfect location for us to stay.
As we were a couple the campsite owners offered us a pitch in what they call the 'quiet' area, which for us was ideal as there were only 4 other tents and we were right by the river. No children in close vicinity and a beautiful flowing river / nature to relax by.
The site was busy and we found all site staff very friendly.
The shop on site is very well stocked and has a little bit of everything, so don't panic if there are a few essentials that you have left behind. They shop is also licensed and it sells a few alcoholic drinks.
The showers work on a token system, 30p for a 5 minute shower. The shower block itself was clean, although the shower curtains were a bit mouldy on the bottom. The toilets (located in same block) were also clean, they did run out of toilet paper a few times, but this was rectified quite quickly.
All in all we will definitely stay at this site in the future and will recommend to friends / family.

Lovely, clean campsite with good showers(at a charge), toilet facilities. Shop at the campsite offering various goods from burgers to ice cream to washing up liquid and tooth brushes so if you have forgotten some stuff, this is the place to go.
Staff very friendly and helpful and always great their guests with a smile
Set close to some lovely walks either beside the river or up in the woods and hills. Approx 1 mile walk to the lovely small town of Holmfirth. A must to have a coffee as Nora Batty cafe (Last of the Summer wine)

Holme Valley Camping and Caravan Park, lovely location but scruffy site, part of site appears to be used a semi-residential with old units and awnings.
Site staff very friendly and shop well stacked. Toilet block in need of modernisation – clean but dated. Site in need of tidying and cleaning up, tress and vegetation cutting back, and road surface improving.
Riverside walk into Holmfirth poorly way marked and through old / derelict industrial building full of graffiti and detritus. Good points – location very handy for visiting the area.
Picturedrome at Holmfirth has some fantastic live music and bands. If the site was improved and the old units removed it would make a lovely site.

I really liked this caravan site, ideally located for holmfirth and surrounding area, the fox house pub on penistone around 20 mins away is defo worth a visit, food is fantastic. The showers/toilets where always clean, a little outdated but absolutely fine, the shop wow, very well stocked for a small shop with long opening hours, the staff were very helpful, there is a stream and tame ducks, it is a lovely area.
The access road to the site is on a hill which is very narrow and full off potholes. It would be no prob for people with tents and small caravans but we struggled. The main road along the top if busy can be noisy at night time, some of the pitches do seem to be small although we were lucky and had plenty of room. There are a lot of caravans that seem to be permanent on site which could do with a tidy up and a clean but its no detriment to the site and everyone is really friendly.
If I had a smaller caravan I would defo use this site again and recommend it if owt just for the lovely walks in the surrounding area.

Only stayed for one night on this site during a touring holiday over the New Year. Received a warm welcome from the lady owner. The on-site shop was well stocked and the toilets and showers clean and warm, despite sub-zero temperatures outside. Hardstandings near the lake were spacious and level. Drivers of larger motorhomes and caravans should take care on the access lane to the site from the main road as it is quite rough and tight in places. Would certainly return to this site.
