A vast improvement has taken place on the site with a new top notch facilities block with family bathroom (at nominal extra cost) and new reception/office. Kiddy adventure playground has been installed plus outside covered washing facilities in the camping field.
Very friendly reception and loads of helpful information on local walks, eateries and facilities in the area. Well stocked shop on the site as commented by other reviewers.
A breath of fresh air on receiving a handy leaflet on arrival (without site rules and regulations) with suggestions for local walks and pubs in the area. The management are going the extra mile in sorting out activities including archery!
The access lane could do with improvement and not for the faint hearted in larger units – minor issue taking the overall experience into account.
The delightful village of Holmfirth is just over a mile from the site and a visit to the Picturedrome with live gigs is a must. The Old Bridge Inn (next to the Picturedrome) is worth popping into with good food and (also) friendly service.
Will certainly be back next year in the Spring, and taking the grandkids as the area and site has so much to offer and is family friendly (and dog friendly – woof!).

Having been camping and now caravanning for nearly 40 years this has to be the most packed in site I have stayed on. Sardines comes to mind. There was only the cars width between the front of our caravan and the rear of the one on the row opposite.
The site was easy to find, the single track 'driveway' down to the site was very bumpy and could do with resurfacing. The reception we received was very friendly and we were shown to our pitch. This was an area of compacted stones and mud. As the day progressed, even though it appeared the site was already overfull, more and more vans arrived and they seemed to be found a pitch. There was an area that looked to be 'residential' a rather hotch potch, higgledy piggledy arrangement of unkempt vans and awnings that did not look at all attractive, and we noticed early morning vehicle movements which we assume were people going to work.
There was a separate area for tents in the adjoining field along side the river.
The site facilities were in two parts, the original shower/toilet block, although old and tired looking was kept clean and tidy, with plenty of hot water. A new block has been build near the tent field which was excellent with very good showers along with private bathrooms that could be hired. Both blocks entered by key code. The site also had a small shop along with a laundry and undercover washing up area.
Although we had an excellent weekend, and the surrounding area exceeded our expectations, it is not a site we shall be returning to, but the area we most definitely will. We feel that this could be an excellent site with a few changes put in place.

Great campsite for kids, and a lovely campsite all round. Good hardstanding pitches with electricity hook-up included at a very fair price. Brand new Toiler/Shower facility block is excellent and free, as nice showers as you would see on any campsite. Little shop selling all the essentials including drinks, friendly staff, nice surroundings and ducks!

Having read previous reviews, I had a good feeling about this site and was looking forward to visiting to use as a base spending a few days in the Holmfirth area.
While there were some positives, I have to say overall I was disappointed with the site in general. The staff were both polite & friendly and clearly very knowledgeable about the area. As stated in the site brochure this is a family site owned by 3 generations of same family. They have a new bathroom & reception block, though this only serve one side of the site, mainly the camping field, which was ram packed and with a complete disregard for keeping 6 meter spaces between pitches etc.
I was given a choice of pitches, 2 were directly adjacent to the mill pond which I considered too much of a risk with young children. Then a recently vacated pitch in the ' seasonal pitches'. This was basically a corner pitch onto the road, with some gravel scattered over though in the main was a complete mud bath.
The seasonal caravans pitched can only be described as a rag bag collection, of traveler esq jumble of old Hobbys, knackered old American style trailers, and even one with a log burner belching smoke which hung in the atmosphere. Again the 6 meter fire spacing was disregarded, with me being asked to move my car from a gravel area which I genuinely thought was my space to park, only for a motor home to arrive and sandwich itself between our van & another.
Vehicle movements on site were unregulated, I don't expect to be woken at 05:30hrs again at 06:30am by noisy old Diesel engines and car doors slamming etc, and with takeaway deliveries at 23:00hrs. When informing the staff of this, I was told oh that's people going to work in the mornings. That's fine have some consideration and park off site then! The pitch immediately behind me was occupied by a guy with 2 dogs, which he let wonder around freely one peeing up my awning ! And leaving them in his caravan unattended with both barking at the slightest noise etc.
The shop was very basic and the facilities at the main area serving this part of the site can only be described as antiquated.
Despite all the disappointment, there were positives, the duck race organised by the site for the local hospice was good fun for the children and adults alike, there was a wealth of materials provided for the children for the local nature trails, and the walks along the Holme valley river trail were excellent. And the opportunity to have. Few hours fishing on the mill pond was a welcome distraction.

Just returned from a fantastic weekend at Holme Valley. We camped in the new field with our 3 children and dog and some friends. The site is clean, well equipped. The shop is fantastically well stocked at super reasonable prices. It is possible to turn up with no food at all and buy all you need from the shop that's how good it is. The family run feel means that thought has been given to every aspect of this campsite, from the trails and booklets you can buy or borrow from the shop for pennies (the lady that runs the shop tells us she used to be a teacher and you can see that fron the well thought out toys and activity packs for sale), the perfect play areas (where you can watch the kids play while you wash up) and the tidy bin areas.
The site was busy but there was space for all.
We hired a family bathroom for the weekend and I cannot speak highly enough of this! What a difference it made and this facility is superb. Hot water always available.
Lots to do in the local picturesque area and we had a very enjoyable visit to Holmfirth.
Super. We will definitely return.

Joke to get in and out of would be nice for the info about access when you book as they did ask the size of unit, entrance road small.
New shower block great, showers are fantastic loads of hot water if not locked older one well dated.
Site OK for smaller caravans. Cleaner was really helpful owner blows hot and cold.
Only stayed for one night as not for us well packed in no real space between vans.

Lovely child and dog friendly site in a great setting.
The staff were really friendly and helpful and there's a lovely family atmosphere at this site. The shop is excellent and sells pretty much everything you could need including local produce and nice chilled bottles of fruit cider!
The site is in a lovely location set in the valley below the main road and surrounded by trees with the river running through. You could just about hear the road when the wind died down, but it's not a busy road over night so it didn't disturb us. There are lovely walks through the trees and along the river which were relatively quiet, even when the camp site was full.
We spent 2 nights over a sunny weekend in June. The facilities are excellent with a lovely new shower block. Possibly the best camping showers I have ever seen, spotlessly clean with a changing area with a bench seat and pegs in every cubicle which made it a lot easier with my 3 year old in tow. The only downside was the block got very hot as it was such good weather, but showers / toilets aren't somewhere you really hang around so it didn't matter. There were enough facilities that we didn't have to queue even when it got busy on the Saturday.
We were in the bottom field where the excellent new kids play area is and my son spent a lot of time climbing in there. The washing up stations are next to the play area which is really handy for keeping an eye on little ones and there's a picnic bench right next to the play area too.
I absolutely loved this site and I can see why it's so popular. We'll definitely be going back.

We booked for two days and received a good info pack with the deposit receipt. Found the site from the road south from Huddersfield using a map to compare with the satnav which got it right. On arrival Ann checked us in and explained the facilities then gave us a walking tour to select a site. We chose a spot beside the river on a large hardstand area. The scenery is great with a few sites where satellite reception can be obtained. However, digital TV was OK. Loos, water points, rubbish and recycling areas all good. There were many new ducklings round the pond and the birdsong was very varied. We walked to Holmfirth and used the 310 bus back - it stops outside the campsite. Was able to reverse the motorhome into an area to access the stairs to the chemical disposal. This is a site we will add to the list for a return visit

We booked this relatively local campsite to test out our new campervan. What a great decision!
Despite it being a last minute booking they bent over backwards to find us a space. This was 'Middle Pitch' which I was told by Ben was tiny and amongst the seasonal caravan pitches. This didn't worry me so I went ahead and booked it. When we arrived I was met at the shop by Ben who made a point of saying he'd tried to tell me it was small, etc. When we got to the pitch I was surprised at how big it was compared to his description. Perfectly adequate for our purposes. Also, the people in the seasonal pitches could not have been more friendly and helpful - giving us information on dog walks and offering use of their outdoor furniture as they were going home for the weekend.
I would actually request this pitch if it was available as it was perfect for us.
The shop is very well stocked and had everything I could imagine needing. Stock was also very reasonably priced.
We didn't use the new toilet block as the old one near the shop was so convenient for our pitch. The older shower block was spotlessly clean and was never busy when we used it. The water was hot and free and there was plenty of space to put your clothes, towels and and products.
Although we didn't travel with children, the playground looked good quality and included a sandpit which looked very clean.
We travelled with our dog and there were lots of beautiful walks from the campsite. We also walked into Holmfirth which wasn't too far away which had a wide range of pubs, cafes and shops to keep us amused. If travelling with a dog try Gonzo's for food on Dunford Road. Very doggy friendly and good food at reasonable prices. Brockholes has a takeaway if you don't fancy cooking and is very close to the site via the Riverside path.

Not easy to spot when travelling along the 6024, but after phoning in, the instructions were great! We did want ehu, but only got one night (our fault for not being able to book earlier) however moved into the flat meadow next day. This became very busy as it was Bank Holiday, and the lovely new toilet block soon became messy, due to the weather and so many people. Went back to the older block, plenty of loo roll and proper 3 pin sockets for hair dryer, phone charger, etc, quiet too. Such a shame that the areas we thought would be available are mostly taken up with what appear to be untidy 'seasonal pitches'. However, the staff and everyone was very friendly and helpful, water hot and free, clean loos. In the face of a very wet day on the Sunday, they all worked extremely hard! Thanks again for pulling us off with the tractor and being so kind. We loved the wildfowl and would probably revisit.
