We visited this site after the one we had planned to was waterlogged ! We were all very happy with the last minute change of site - especially as the sun decided to shine. We received a warm welcome and were shown to our pitch which was a large field along side a river. At £17. 50 / night for a car, Family tent, 2 adults & 2 children we thought it was great value for money & this was before we had visited the site. There was a brand new toilet block which was clean, modern, spacious and not tokened. There were only 2 pot sinks though - only had to queue once. There could be more pot sinks in the new build - could not tell as was not completely finished. There was a small play area near the shop - suitable for under fives. Too young for the children in our party 6-10, however there was plenty of space in the field we were in for tig, football, waterfights. Again plans were visible for a new play park to be built. On the Saturday we visited the local cider press as recommended by the owners on foot which was a lovely walk out. We were in a group of 4 families & managed to unwind the maypole there & relive our youth with our own children ! Late afternoon we had our first go at Geocaching - after finding out there was one near the site. Overall a great weekend - will definitely be visiting again :).

On arrival we were shown a choice of 2 pitches, both were not clearly marked out, we chose the one with a view over the duck pond.
Most campers seemed to think that our pitch was a right of way to the reception & toilet block, which was quite annoying.
The toilets are brand new and spotlessly clean, the best ever.
The worst thing about this site, is that there are a lot of seasonal campers, who must have market stalls, as we were awoken at 5. 30am on Saturday and Sunday morning as there was a mass exodus of vans.
The site is well situated for Holme Firth.

After trying to find the site for 2 hours, due to the satnav being useless and the site poorly sign posted I managed to find it.
I went down to the shop to book in, the lady seemed pleasant enough, I was given my ticket to attach to my tent, and told to camp on the top field. (No other information at all)
The top field is on quite a steep slope and the grass needed a cut but it was clean. I pitched my tent, where I could as there was not many open spaces left and we had booked 2 tents in. Behind the tent was a large overgrown area full of nettles which is not ideal.
I managed to find the old toilets and had to put a code in (great) then found the new toilets which were not much better to be honest, the showers were the same quality just cleaner and more spacious.
The shop was well stocked, but closed until 9am, so those who have early rising children can't grab anything they forgot for breakfast easily.
We had a wonder round, the long term caravans looked really scruffy, and the touring caravans seemed to be pitched on gravel, which made it look like a large car park.
The playground was dirty and old. Not ideal for children to play in.
There were 2 washing up sinks (with plugs which is fab) but they were next to the toilet waste disposal point which is not good on a sunny day really.
Thankfully the sun shone, I had a lovely break spending time with my family, and the man emptying the bins was kind enough to give me a bin liner to put my condensation covered tent in.
I will not be returning because for the facilities I feel it is very over priced and got the feeling they like their regulars and not people wanting to visit.

The entrance to the site was not inviting - overgrown and builders bags left in the lane. After warm welcome from reception we were taken to hard stand area overlooking the pond. After parking we realised how wet and muddy the unmarked area was. Other vans arrived and we were extremely close together. This is the first site we have stayed on where the 'hard stand' has been muddy! Lots of permanent units on site which are uncared for and make the site look untidy. Paid for 3 nights but left after 2 (and that is only because we had arranged to meet a relative on the 2nd day). Positive - toilet and shower facilities very good.

Lovely site set amongst trees and by a fishing lake and river.
Toilet facilities clean and warm but a bit dated didn't, t use the showers but tokens needed for them.
We had a hard standing pitch with electric and a nice spot by the river, some traffic noise early morning but not duly annoying.
The site needs to clearly mark the pitch areas as there were no numbered pitches and some units were very close together no 20 foot rule.
The only down side for us was the worry of getting back to the main road with the caravan on as it was very narrow with passing places and we left on a Friday as new units were arriving but the owners arranged for someone to go to the top of the lane to stop the traffic whilst we excited.
Whilst there we visited the Holmfirth Vineyards, Blue John Caverns and Huddersfield town all good experiences.
Very helpful and courteous owners and staff we enjoyed our stay.

The site itself is lovely.
A fishing lake in the middle, lots of ducks, a stream running along the side of the site, with plenty of trees and shallow enough for the kids to have a paddle in. Someone even caught a small trout in there whilst we were visiting. Lovely.
The grass was nice, the trees were great, the surrounding scenery was noteworthy.
However, and I hate to bring this up, when we arrived we were told to pitch 'anywhere we liked in the two fields as long as it wasn't near a traffic cone'. Okay, seems simple enough.
We went into the main field that runs down the side of the stream, as the other field is definitely too slopey, and the traffic cones were all over the place! People had moved them to use them as goal posts, dog-tying posts. Whatever. They were not in any sort of formation. They were completely haphazardly placed around the field. It couldn't possibly mean anything.
We found a nice pitch (no cones), tucked into the corner by the stream. We had booked and paid for two full size tents/two full sized pitches, but as a last minute whim we had decided to take smaller dome tents and 'rough it' for the sake of one night.
All going well.
An hour into setting up, the receptionist came over and told us that we were too near the EHU stand (actually in the next door field) and said that we had to move. Being nice polite folk, we moved, as she suggested, about 10m further up (away from the stream). Ok, confusion sorted, we settled down for the afternoon.
At 8pm that evening, the owner came up to us, asking if we had booked, if we had paid, who were we, why were we pitched here!
We explained that we had booked and paid upfront on the phone and had already moved once, and moved to an area that the receptionist had suggested. At which, the owner said that we weren't telling the truth as her receptionist wouldn't have told us to pitch there! I told her that I had no reason to lie and that the receptionist had very clearly told us where to move to.
The owner told us that she would speak to the receptionist the following day and 'tell her off' for allowing us to pitch where we had!
It was all a little uncomfortable really.
To cut an uncomfortable confrontation story short, we stayed where we were, having wearily pointed out that we had already moved everything once, and had actually paid for two full sized pitches and been shoved into one tiny half-sized pitch.
This could have all been avoided if EHU areas were better marked out (instead of using moveable cones). Or if the owner came out and told us where to pitch at the offset. The way it was handled was uncomfortable and disappointing and did put a downer on our evening.
Yet here is the rub. I would return. I would return with my bigger tent, at a quieter time, and pitch facing the stream. The snack van would be closed during the week (I believe) which is a huge shame as the food was great, and the coffee convenient. But the shop was nicely stocked and the setting was really lovely.
Perhaps the owner favours long-stayers as opposed to casual campers, and with the lack of campsites in that area, she probably does a good trade regardless.
PS. The seasonal pitches did not bother us at all. In fact, if anything, they added character and quirky charm to the site. The girls loved seeing the home-touches (benches/hanging baskets/birdfeeders etc. ) that the long-term caravans had.

We stayed at this site for a weekend at the end of last month. Our pitch next to the lake was picturesque, and I enjoyed watching the ducklings.
The shop was very well stocked and the owner was welcoming and helpful.
The shower block had a code on the door which I kept forgetting to take with me, and the showers were 30p for 4 mins which I found was enough time but at £18 - £20 per night for the pitch with electric I don't feel that you should have to pay for showers but that's my opinion.
There was an additional cost for the fishing which consisted of small perch and roach, my partner didn't really rate the fishing at this site.
Overall I personally think the site is over priced, and I would only return if I had to.

The site is nice, got codes to punch in for the toilets and showers!, The field we were in. Was the top field, not a long walk toilets and showers! Plugs in women's toilets for hairdryers, straighteners! Although, will not be going back. It was a nice site, but was awakened at 0630 on sunday morning by child playing ball games with mother! No consideration for other campers! That's wrong! Think its a nice site, but, so much more could be done to it! Its in perfect place, although, noise from the roads are very loud! I would stay here again, if I needed to be in the region!

I stayed here this weekend on a meet with our club. I loved the site. Yes, there are a lot of seasonally pitched caravans but didn't find that a problem at all. Even at the weekend when there were quite a few children on the site, it was still quiet.
We were on a hardstanding area by the river which was very pleasant.
The snack van opened at about 7 in the morning and seemed to do pretty good trade.
I don't understand the comments about the shower block. The ladies is perfectly OK, not state of the art but hardly what I'd call 'dated'. The showers are on a 30p token bought from the shop and run for 4 minutes, which I found more than enough. The water was very hot and easily adjustable. The shower cubicles are the largest I've seen so there's plenty of room to get dried and dressed.
There's a fishing lake in the middle of the site and lots of ducks and ducklings wandering around and coming for food.
The shop is very well stocked and open until about 7 at night.
Holmfirth is about 30 minutes walk along the main road which has footpaths all the way. There is also a path along the river. We wanted to go on the tour bus round town but they wouldn't take my friend's dog because they said he was too big, which was disappointing. There are plenty of dog-friendly pubs in town for lunch. We went back to the site by bus because of the rain. It took about 5 minutes and cost £2 and stopped at the site entrance on request.
We walked to Brockholes along the river and it was beautiful. The pub in Brockholes (about 10 minute walk going by road) serves an excellent meal. They catered for 23 of us on Saturday night with no problems.
I liked the site very much and would go back again if I went to that area.

We live literally 5 miles away from the camp site and I had never heard of it before.
We went with another 2 couples for one night and absolutely loved it. We stopped in the first field on the left which is on a slight angle but if you pitch the tent at the right angle, you don't notice it.
There is another field lower down which is much bigger and very flat. We arrived a little later in the day so that one was full.
There is a lot of long stopping caravans in part of the site but if you are just going with a tent, you don't really notice them. It was a little strange watching people go to work the next morning when going to the toilet but it works I guess. There toilets were OK and not sure when the new block is going to be completed.
There is a really nice pond in the middle of the site which is nice to walk around. Plenty of happy people and very quiet in an evening.
We had breakfast the next morning from the on site butty van. Great food and the brews were good too.
With it being so local and pleasant, we will definitely be going again soon.
