Me and my friend stayed here in August 2012, was really pleased with everything. The facilities were very good and the people working there were great. The surrounding area is good! The Station is very close which is good and a shop not far away that is open 24/7! Going to be booking in again this year as soon as the weather improves. This was my first time camping and I loved it! The staff were also very helpful when we needed them.

Great friendly welcome, with lots of useful local information about good food pubs, walks and local take aways. The owner took the trouble to find a specific leaflet and bring it over to us.
The site is very scenic and quiet with well laid out very clean showers and toilets.
There was lots of wild life including the friendly ducks who called round to meet us.
A great base for exploring a very lovely area with pubs, restaurants, local shop and pretty market towns in easy reach.

Just come back from a highly enjoyable weekend on this site with friends. The setting is very picturesque with hills in the background and a river running alongside the site. OK, so there is a train line too but the sound of the trains didn't detract from our stay.
The facilities were spotless and nicer than many hotels we have stayed in. The owners were friendly and helpful, giving us a little more space to pitch our larger tent than officially allowed. They also burnt our friend's tent for them after all the zips broke (don't buy a Halfords camping package)!
We have camped in this area of Derbyshire before on different sites but won't look for a better site than this in the area now. Excellent.

Very little to add to previous reviews in terms of the campsite - it is a lovely site, with excellent facilities (including recycling) in a great location for walking, climbing and cycling.
Good value for money - we paid £18. 50 for a campervan with hook up and friends paid £12 for tent and two people.
We only stayed one night and decided we would eat out. There are two pubs in the village - 'Ye Derwent' has shut down and 'The Anglers Rest' didn't do food - we called in for a drink and regretted that - a very unwelcoming atmosphere and a very run down feel about it.
The Yorkshire Bridge Inn is about 25 minutes walk from the campsite and served excellent food - highly recommended and worth the walk.

We chose this campsite in a matter of minutes when our original one fell through, and we are very glad we chose it.
We managed to come at the end of the Jubilee weekend and encountered very bad weather - wind and rain! The campsite shower blocks were meticulously cleaned several times a day, nothing was too much trouble from our hosts who were obliging at all times.
We got used to the sound of the trains on the Hope Valley railway very quickly and got to miss them when we got home!
Lots of walking around and about which is what we went for, although the weather curtailed a lot of it. We would certainly come here again for a future holiday.
The owners are in the middle of refurbishment at the moment, but this in no way detracted from our stay.
As we have no children now to bring, we cannot comment.

We chose this campsite for our first family camping trip. I am very pleased we did as it is just what we were looking for. The owners are very friendly and welcoming and the site is well maintained and a nice size.
The facilities on the site are very good. Very well kept and always clean no matter what time we used them. Hot running water at all times and enough cubicles/toilets for the whole site and all in the one block.
As mentioned on other reviews the trains do run next to the campsite. However, even though we heard them a few times during the day and also through the night, this did not bother my husband and I or our two young children ages 5 and 2 1/2 who didn't wake once.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be visiting again.

Highly recommended site on the basis of clear, accurate, and prompt communication with the owners to make a booking followed by the discovery of a great site, excellent, clean, warm and regularly serviced toilets, showers and wash-up area.
We experienced the jubilee weekend wash-out, but found that the site drained incredibly well, there was no mudbath often experienced on tented sites in prolonged rain.
Excellent location for exploring the Hope Valley, and High Peak. Big enough to have good facilities, small enough to be looked after and respected by its users.

This site is set in a fantastic location, handy for local attractions. The site owners were really friendly and welcoming and told us about good walk, shop locations etc.
The toilet block was nicely refurbished-plenty of hot water although you have to remember that the entire floor of your shower gets wet as the shower drainage is outside your cubicle door!
There is no children's play area but there is a park and playing field a short walk down the road.
As mentioned in other reviews, the trains are very close by and do run through the night but to be honest it didn't bother us in our caravan. Not so sure about camping though.

This is a lovely camp site run by very helpful and friendly owners.
The facilities have been recently upgraded to a high standard and are kept very clean. There always seemed to be loads of hot water too in both the washing facilities and the showers; which is great. I think it should be noted though that anyone with certain disabilities could find access to the facilities rather awkward due to steps.
Swallowholme camp site is fortunate enough to be pretty central for places to visit in the Peaks and would be totally suitable for people who enjoy walking or cycling, or, who just like to look at the beautiful countryside. There are plenty nearby attractions such as caves, and if you enjoy learning about history there is the plague village of Eyam.
Towns such as Bakewell and Buxton are well worth visiting too. We especially wanted to visit Sheffield so we parked on the Meadowhall Park and Ride, where we got a tram into the city. Sheffield itself is not only a good shopping centre but is a thriving place filled with attractive buildings etc. And then, if you still haven't had enough retail therapy then there's always the Meadowhall shopping centre when you decide to return to your vehicle.
Walkers or cyclists would especially love places such as, the Monsal Trail, [a disused railway track] or, a walk/cycle around the Derwent Dams which both have the advantage of gorgeous scenery.
There are local buses and trains for people who do not wish to use their own transport and there are shops and pubs within walking distance for convenience.
We were lucky enough to pick an amazing weekend weather-wise although it was out of the main holiday season, and even though the site was quite full it still remained relatively quiet and peaceful, ideal for couples.
As mentioned by other reviewers, the trains do run by the site, but this did not really disturb us much at all and we would not hesitate to recommend this site to anyone. We will definitely be visiting it again ourselves soon.

We arrived at approx 6pm and were met by a smile from the owners, the lady shown us to our pitch and explained where everything was and was extremely helpful.
After we hooked up we went for a stroll up into Bamford for a few pints, first was the anglers arms, OK but very quiet so we walked further on up the road in the dark to the Yorkshire Bridge hotel, well all I can say is go there for great food and beer also very friendly locals.
On the Saturday morning we went for a stroll around the lovely walks around the area.
I would recommend this site, right next to the river and very close to the train station but everything is very well kept and the shower blocks are very good indeed, the trains run until approx 11pm but was nothing bad as we had ear plugs anyway
