Delightful campsite
Very helpful owner
The only down side was the frequency of the trains past the site.
Very convenient for the cycle path to the dam
Not much in the way of facilities in the village

Fantastic location for lots of walks, on a bus route and next to the train station getting around is no problem at all,
15 mins from the community public house, within walking distance of lady bower, Hathersage and Bamford Edge and the grocery shop is 5 mins walk at the petrol station
The site itself is being refurbished with new statics being installed, there is only around 10 touring pitches so I can see it getting difficult to get a pitch for tourers but worth the effort
The facilities are excellent and cleaned regularly.

The location of this site is perfect with regards to accessibility, proximity to cycle and walking routes, local villages.
But we found the noise from the passing Sheffield to Manchester train line intolerable! My mother’s garden backs onto a track with a 15 min service so I am used to ignoring the noise but this was another level! I suspect because the line is above the site - it’s the only explanation I can give for the noise. You can’t be heard when a train passes - the last one being at 23:20 but it started up again just after 04:00!
Facilities were spotless and we loved having water and drainage on pitch but unfortunately we could not use this site again as 4 1/2 hrs sleep is not enough.
However this site is predominantly seasonal pitches so maybe don’t rely on our opinion too much

Ideal place for snowdon around 15 mins away.
Basic amenities, showers stayed on for 5seconds a time, clean enough.
No shops local, nice river runs next to it alongside main road.
Small field so not many elec pitches.

Quirky site with mostly substantial seasonal pitches, about 9 touring Pitches, and 6 lodges about to go in.
Right on river Derwent but the lodges will mostly get the Riverside.
Also railway line up high on other side of river - but not a peoblwm. Apart from that great facilities block and pretty nice.
Near pleasant village and 24 hr minimarket and petrol station 1/4 mile away.
Pub nearby community run. Walks straight from site are excellent - e. G. Out over Thornhill across to Winhill with dramatic summit and superb views of surroundings hill and Ladybower Reservoir and lunch stop at Yorkshire Bridge Inn.
Really enjoyed our stay here.

We've stayed at Swallowholme a few times over the years and will always recommend it and return ourselves.
The owners are super helpful and will always answer any queries you have on the area.
The toilets and showers are immaculate, the site is peaceful bar the odd train, which is actually nice to see, and the pitches are spacious.
Looking forward to our next visit already.

Excellent facilities and great location for the train station.
Toilets clean and everything on site easy.
Will be back as you can catch the train to Manchester or Sheffield from here.
Not really a site for the kids.

We really enjoyed our stay, it was peaceful and relaxing with some great views around the area.
Staff were friendly and helped set up our pitch.
We will definitely be returning in the future. We even thought about moving there to stay forever.
Thankyou for such a great stay.

Lovely campsite with good sized level pitches with electric hook up, which is ideally situated to explore the Peak District.
The owners are very helpful and friendly.
Shower block and toilet facilities are excellent and immaculately kept, though chemical waste disposal is up a number of steps!
There is traffic noise from the nearby main roads and noise from a fair number of both goods and passenger trains which pass at the bottom of the field.
There is a river at the side and we saw a number of ducks and birds.
We stayed for 3 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Very friendly welcome, really good size pitch with a complementary picnic bench too!
Fantastic facilities, really clean, very well kept and maintained and super hot showers.
Great washing up area too. We would definitely visit again if it wasn't right next to the railway line and the main road.
Neither of which the owners can do anything about I totally appreciate.
The noise just wasn't something we'd like to experience again.
