We have just spent 2 weeks on this site. We visit here regularly but this is the 1st visit since reopening after the lockdown, so I will focus on that aspect.
The 2 facilities blocks were open with distancing measures in place, so some cubicles out of action, the hairdryers out of action and limited to 5 people at a time. They were cleaned regularly and the outer doors propped open so once you had washed your hands you didn’t need to touch anything. You are encouraged to use your own facilities if you have them and we certainly saw more toilet tents than usual. There was hand san available at the loos and at the bins.
Things that remained closed were the playground, information room, laundry and the reception /shop, so be warned that you cannot buy milk, gas etc.
The staff were doing a great job under the new circumstances. It felt a bit odd not having the chance to interact with them regularly in the shop. When my nephew joined us and discovered he had broken tent poles, one of the staff was very helpful and provided him with some discarded poles to use for a repair.

We spent 10 days on this popular level site. The 2 facilities blocks were always clean and warm, with one open whilst the other is closed for cleaning. The staff were friendly and helpful. They have discount tickets for things like Alnwick castle and the Farne Islands boat trips. You can walk down to the beach in under half an hour on a footpath from the site.
A fish and chip van visits the site on Friday, fish and chips is £8. There is a wood fired pizza stall called Embers within walking distance of the site which is open early evenings. (He is a new business, so worth checking to see if he is still there!) The golf club at Embleton is an easy walk along the beach, open for snacks, meals and ice cream.
The site is very popular with dog owners, most units had at least 2. This means that it can be quite noisy if pitched next to dogs who then bark every time another dog goes past. Unfortunately, it also meant that we encountered dog poo on our pitch and on the walk down to the beach on 5 occasions.
Recommendations nearby include all the beaches, Dunstanburgh castle, the rock pools at Craster and the Farne Islands boat trips. Good places for food nearby (we often had pub lunches) include The Jolly Fisherman pub in Craster (walkable from the site), the Pack Horse Inn at Ellingham and the Geordie Banger (takeaway stall) at Amble harbour.

Lovely site with spotless facilities. Usual Camping and Caravan Club charges. Staff very friendly and helpful. The site is in an excellent location for visitors to Northumberland with Dunstanburgh castle and beautiful beaches within walking distance.
We stayed on a grass pitch with electric in the centre of the slightly sloping site. Toilets are spotless. No issues with the pitch and only issue was slow wifi.
Highly recommend #embersnortheast which is just along from the campsite. Their freshly made wood-fired pizzas are delicious and the donkey and pig in the field provide entertainment while you wait!
If you have any Harry Potter fans with you Alnwick castle and Gardens are just a short drive away. Check out Barter Books will you are there and keen anglers can visit the Hardy's Museum within the Complete Angler Shop. There is good fly fishing lakes within easy reach and sea fishing nearby.

I had wanted to go back to Northumberland as I visited with my grandparents more than 40 years ago. I chose Dunstan Hill as it was recommended a couple of years ago by a warden at another C&CC site. I wasn't disappointed.
Location wise its about 8 miles off the A1 down some fairly windy lanes and its important to follow the map from the website to make sure you don't end up stuck.
The wardens were very helpful and I was given a wise choice of pitches - I chose one opposite the gate which leads to the path down to the beach. The pitch was hard standing and was fairly level although I did have to use a levelling ramp to get completely level. Someone mentioned poor TV signal but although my meter wasn't able to show a green light for signal strength I was still able to pick up well over 100 tv channels along with loads of radio channels when I scanned.
My only gripe was the water pressure in the tap across from my pitch - it took about 20 minutes to fill an Aquaroll. Then again I wasn't in a hurry.
Lots to see locally in terms of National Trust and English Heritage - Dunstanburgh castle is a lovely walk down the coast. I have to go back to visit Cragside again as the weather was wet when I went so I couldn't look round the gardens.
I drove down to Hadrian's Wall too - its quite a trek but well worth it. I did Housesteads and Chesters but the highlight was Vindolanda where they are actively excavating.
Just down the coast from the campsite is Howick which has the loveliest gardens and the site of random tulips growing amid a meadow of wild flowers and grasses has to be seen.
Seahouses is a must - I went out on a boat to watch the seals twice in the one week. First time I saw puffins and seals which I thought was an unbelievable experience. So I went again and there were less puffins, more seals and we got to see the dolphins.
If you want great fish and chips then Seahouses is the place to go. I went to Neptunes which is in the middle of town and the fish and chips were the best I have tasted in years.
I am already looking to go next May

Our first time at this site, it was really nice. Shower and toilet block very modern and clean, top notch as you would expect at a CCC site. Wifi was a very slow 1. 4mbs.
Staff very pleasant and helpful, what is it about working for the CCC that everyone we meet is so happy? We had been to Beadnall Bay site just up the road before and found this site much quieter. Brilliant bus service from outside the main gate.
We went all over, Berwick upon Tweed, Craster, Warkworth. The only thing to remember about both here and Beadnall is that, being coastal sites, they are windy.
The only downer we had during our stay was the Friday evening Fish and Chip van. The chips were pallid, came complete with hairs, and the mushy peas had more on the outside of the container than the inside!
Apart from that we really enjoyed our stay here and we will return. But no fish and chips.

Had a lovely time, the Wardens were quite helpful and always available for advice. The site was much larger than we normally choose and had a hard standing pitch for our caravan. Most of the other folk using the site were very friendly and helpful and very quiet, but did notice at the weekend it became much noisier due to the families with kids. That is to be expected as it was time to have family joy and fun, but did go on a bit beyond 10pm. The location was very good indeed to visit the castles and beaches in the area, so many local walks too. The facilities were as usual, a high standard of cleanliness, and always a shower or 'throne' was available. The ground was firm but easy to peg out, TV reception was not that good. Dog walkers paradise plenty of lovely walks. For shopping supermarkets etc Alnwich was within easy reach. Local pubs and garage very friendly service. Great base to explore the area, would certainly return but in the mid season, can be busy with kids and families enjoying themselves.

We have just spent another enjoyable week on this site. The best thing is its location, with a 20 minute walk down to the fabulous beach, although you cannot see the sea from the site.
This site is hugely popular with dog owners, almost every unit had 2 or 3 dogs, so inevitably there was quite a lot of barking and yapping as people walked their dogs past other dogs.
The toilet blocks were always spotless, and the advantage of there being 2 blocks is that when one is shut for cleaning, the other one is open. The staff were very friendly. There is a fish and chip van which visits Friday nights.
I recommend a boat trip from Seahouses to see puffins, seals and if you are very lucky, dolphins (discount vouchers for Billy Shiels trips are available in the site office).
I also recommend a walk along the coastal path from the site to Craster, past Dunstanburgh Castle, or in the other direction up to the Ship pub at Low Newton.
The golf club house at Embleton is also very handy from the beach, they sell things like bacon rolls and ice creams to non-golfers!
Slate Hall horse riding stables in North Sunderland is great, they do a fabulous ride on Bamburgh beach (for experienced riders only). There are other rides available.

Very nice site with good facilities. All well maintained and kept very clean. Staff all friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the Swallows who had nested in the washing up area. Never seen a swallow so close.
20 minute walk down to Embleton bay which is stunning. Once there we chose to walk to Craster one day, the Ship at Low Newton another day and also explored Dunstanburgh Castle. Stunning views and nesting seabirds.
We found plenty to do and enjoy but knew there was a good bus service from outside the site. The lanes are narrow so would have used this in preference to taking the motorhome out
We are talking of when we can go back

A very well appointed, clean and tidy site which is surrounded by lovely countryside. The wardens keep the place immaculate. We were on hardstanding towards back of site so used that toilet block (there are 2)always warm, clean and plenty of toilet tissues. Our pitch was on the perimeter of the site, wouldn't have wanted to be in middle as it looked a little cramped and chaotic. Wi fi patchy and cost £10 for 7 days, 3. 5g allowance. TV reception good.
Nice play area and ball area for children and even older ones were able to hang out there. Our son made friends quickly (not usually able to do this)
Walk to beach easy and enjoyable stroll (20-25 mins)Beach empty and lovely and sandy. Our girls (dogs) loved it! Nice walk to Dunstanborough Castle, shrouded in mist when we went. Craster - okay but not much there and pub and coffee shop take advantage of that (in my opinion)
Lots to do around area- esp for us history nerds! Finally got to Sycamore Gap (from Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves - and first film I saw with OH!)
Would happily return to site and area.

This is a standard Camping & Caravan Club site - a large field with a circular tarmac road. Two modern clean toilet blocks. There is shelter from the wind on some pitches but if you are in the central field it is potentially quite exposed. Reception sells basics with papers to order. The wifi was unusable on our pitch but maybe we were unlucky? There is a playground and small football field but many children were quite happy going around the tarmac road on their scooters and bikes!
Friendly welcome. Lots of families and dogs (some better behaved than others) on site. Also a higher percentage of tents than many sites.
The undoubted attraction of this site is the beach. A 20 min walk on footpaths. You may need walking boots or wellies after heavy rain. Dunstanburgh Castle looks stunning (£5 for adults, free for Eng Her or Nat Tr members).
