I have really mixed feelings about this site. The staff were amazing, really friendly, helpful and extremely hardworking. We wanted to stay an extra night and before we arrived we had a phone call to confirm that an extra night could be added to our booking, amazing considering how busy the site was. Great service upon arrival with a choice of hardstanding pitches, someone to show us to our pitch and an explanation of all the facilities.
There is a 'dog walk' but it is really just a public footpath through some woods. It is extremely muddy with lots of tree roots sticking up so not at all suitable for people with mobility or sight problems.
Further on, through a field of wheat, along a lovely quiet road and finally through part of a golf course and you will find Embleton Bay beach. In my opinion one of the best beaches in the UK and superior to the much busier Seahouses. Our kids spent many hours bodyboarding here and enjoying the sandy beach. It is dog friendly too and our puppy loved her time here too. It is about 1. 5km from the site and probably the reason why the site was packed to the rafters.
You need to go out in your car or take a bus if you want to o anywhere in the local area. There is a small Spar in one of the local villages, but for shops of any decent size you will need to go all the way to Alnwick. So you may wish to bring as much food etc with you as possible if you don't want a trek to a supermarket.
This is a very busy and popular site and the staff try hard with what they have, but the C&CC really should invest some money here. There are two toilet blocks which the staff keep immaculate, even cleaning them at 11pm every night. But there is no getting away from the fact they are outdated and inadequate. Three showers, six toilets, two sink cubicles, three hand washing sinks with only one soap dispenser and one hand dryer per block is unacceptable for a site of this size and popularity.
The children's play area is, well, pathetic really. Two swings and one slide. Being the summer holidays, and the fact that tents seemed to be squeezed in everywhere there were a lot of little people. No wonder they ended up being a nuisance with their cycles between all the pitches. They need more to keep them entertained.
The roads around the site also need some work. They are just pebbles and were basically turned into rivers when it rained. I also hurt my feet and ankles on more than one occasion walking to the toilet block in the night when I stood on a large or sharp rock.
All in all, it is in a lovely location with great staff. But I don't think we will go back until some money is spent on the infrastructure. A pity.

Have just returned from Dunstan Hill. Great site. Friendly staff and a well kept and maintained grass area.
There is a fantastic walk down to the lovely beach.
My dogs loved it as well.
I have to have a special mention to the local garage at EMBLETON. J. R Grieves & Co. I got a puncture late on Friday, just before garage shutting time. Told them I was leaving on Monday. Nothing was a problem, tyre was delivered first thing on Monday and fitted. Pleasant and helpful staff

Just returned from our holiday camping at dunstan hill. Very nice site managers all very friendly. The bottom toilet/shower block had to be closed for a day as no hot water ? due to the boiler not working, but this was repaired within 24 hours. There are 2 shower/ toilet blocks each contain 3 showers female and 3 showers male, several toilets and a couple of sink cubicles. There is a hair dryer in the female toilets at 20p a go. Both blocks have a pot washing areas with 3 sinks in each. The bottom block has a laundry room with washing machine dryer and iron and ironing board 20p slot to use this. The
Playground is basic and not large enough for the many children trying to use it.
Nice walk to the beach 15 mins, then a further 30 minutes left along the beach to the ship inn very nice pub.
The nearest supermarkets are in alnwick 10 miles away morrisons, co op and sainsburys. The chip shop van visited monday and friday very nice food and average prices. The camp shop has limited openeing times and sells basic food items. I would return to the site when I return to northumberland as the location is good and the surroundings lovely.

This is a lovely site. A good bit bigger than we had expected and, if you get a pitch near the road-end, it might be a bit noisy, but we were much further into the site and it was lovely. Excellent facilities in 2 blocks at either end of the site and these were very clean. The site is about 20 mins (or so) walk through the dog walk and down a path to a beautiful beach where you can walk right past Dunstanburgh Castle to a little village with a lovely pub. Our first evening there we took a walk to the beach and spent about half an hour watching porpoises in the bay! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return and can recommend it.

We 2 and Jake the dog stayed for 4 nights last week at Dunstan Hill in our Crusader fc and can only echo what Alan said on previous review.
A wonderful site - staff were very helpful and cheerful
- grass kept nice and short and cuttings not left around.
Shower/toilet blocks were always immaculate and well stocked.
There were quite a few dogs staying too - but hardly any dog noise - we think that campers - being sociable people - must also have sociable dogs.
We would have no hesitation in staying there again.

Recently back from a wonderful 6 nights at this site. HSM & team are very friendly and helpful. Hard working as toilet blocks, which are of the older style were kept immaculate. Showers are in a separate room in the block.
Site is Ideal for visiting the Northumberland coast. There is a footpath to the beach from the site. Beach about 1 mile away.
Excellent Fish and chip van calls on a Friday, (and I believe a second day in high season) and local pub (Cottage in at Dunstan) will pick you up in free minibus so you can enjoy a drink with your meal. Just book at site reception. Site also has discounted tickets for Alnwick Castle & Gardens. Also recommend visiting Cragside and Bamburgh Castle.

Stayed one night. Lovely welcome. Nice big hardstanding pitch. Wardens saw me on & helped hook up nice touch. Fab long walk with dog to beach, might be too far for some and wellies are a must, as through trees / woods & fields first, but for people with hyper dogs its ace. Facilities very tired and old disabled room has no heating & open grills on door, felt like an outdoor shower, but wardens recognise this! Working hard with what they have!

Arrived just after 12 and was given a very warm welcome - the Warden used to own our tow car! He sold it 2 years ago! Spooky! Anyway we were given a choice of any pitch - one toilet block was closed as it is nearly the end of the season. No dramas, the other one was warm and spotless at all times! Although dated it was fantastic to have really hot water and 'take your skin of showers!'. The playground was at the top of the site, well positioned, my teenagers are too big, but it would be ideal for little ones!
Gorgeous beach only 10 minutes away, fantastic dog walking! Really is a gem of a site, not only because of its position (Craster - for its Kippers and Alnwick - for everything!) but for the most fantastic staff, nothing was too much trouble and they were really interesting to talk to!
It was busy even at this time of year, but it was a very enjoyable and relaxing stay! Just what we needed!
Many thanks to all the staff - and we are so glad we found this little gem of a site! Thank you!

We booked this site for its proximity to where my husband was taking part in a photographic course at nearby Rennington. We were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff, we were shown to our choice of pitch which was spacious, we didn't use our awning on this occasion but plenty of room if we had wished to do so.
We found the toilet and showers being separate a bit of a nuisance, and the shower cubicles a little small. Having said that the showers were very powerful and plenty of hot water.
Dunstan Hill CP is set in a lovely area with plenty of walks close by to the beautiful beach, either directly from the site or by travelling by car to close by Embleton or Craster. A walk along the beach in either direction will bring you to the ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. We ate at The Greys Inn in Embleton, good food but didn't live up to our expectations having read their reviews, but would return again if in the area, we also enjoyed lunch at The Shoreline cafe in Craster.
The site itself, we will definitely return to as we did not have enough time to explore and enjoy the area.

This site suited well enough for stopping one night on a tour down the east coast. Quiet and rural. Good dog run in the woods then down to the beach at Dunstanburgh (20-30 mins each way).
The showers were excellent, although it's a hassle that they're in a separate part of the building to the sinks and toilets. Roomy pitches, especially the hardstands round the edge, but grass in the central rows of pitches was very soggy and a lot of muddy areas were being reseeded. There were major problems with internet access for checking us in - it took 2 attempts (night and morning), well over half an hour in total: tedious. A local hotel will collect you (and your dog) from the site, and bring you all back after you've had a meal: the site managers can give you a card with the details. But there was zero Vodaphone signal, so we could not phone them.
