I was met by the team who gave me information about my stay and then showed me to my pitch. Everyone was polite and helpful.

I had a comfortable stay and despite the weather was able to take advantage of the footpaths to the sea then along the coastal path to nearby Craster and back.

The facilities were spotlessly clean and well maintained and the site was quiet at night.

I found this a very average site. After reading the reviews I was really looking forward to coming here!

I usually don’t write reviews, mainly because I can see the positives in everything.

But I'm writing this to tell the honest truth of the campsite.

Firstly, the walk down to the beach - now I’m a young, able bodied. But It is at least a 30 minute walk to be beach, it’s a nice walk, but un even under foot, it was easy for us, but I can’t imagine it is easy for everyone. I will add there was an unpleasant sewage smell in the woods at the back of the caravan site.

Secondly, there are no shops local, there is an extremely over priced farm shop in Embleton, but it doesn’t not have everything you need. Morrisons in Alnwick is the nearest. But Eleanor’s Byre, was a lovely place that you can walk to, for a coffee and cake, plus had a lovely gift type shop!

Thirdly, the site is dog friendly. But sadly my experience of this doesn’t suffice.

I let my dogs out of the awning, and they followed to heel to the boot of my car. Which was approximately three metres from the awning. (Parked at the side of it)

In the 1 minute it took for me to get sorted, I was shouted at from across the caravan site. Which quite frankly was embarrassing - Being told that my dogs must be on a lead. Whilst this was said, the dogs were jumping into the boot. It was quite unnecessary, a dog friendly site would understand that. Reading the situation before reacting wouldn’t have gone a miss.

Shouting across the campsite, made more of a situation and would have disturbed more campers than my dogs jumping into my boot. This happened after around 6 days of staying here - which was not a problem doing this, before the change of staff.

4th - The toilet blocks were clean, had all the amenities that were needed, including a laundry room, washing up area, and airers to hang your clothes out!

5th - We had plenty of space for our caravan, awning and car. Which was really lovely! The ground wasn’t very level, and had to use bricks for the front two feet, but there were bricks around to campsite to use! Very handy.

Finally - There was a bus that stopped right out side which is perfect, if this wasn’t the case, a car is definitely needed!

Generally I’d give this place an average 5/10. It was good, but … average. Probably won’t visit again.

This is a delightful site with good facilities and access to a walk leading to the wonderful beach and ultimately Dunstanburgh castle.

It's a big site hosting a lot of outfits, including tents, but the facilities were ample, clean and modern.

The staff are helpful and friendly. A 10 minute walk along the road from this site is a lovely gift/coffee shop and pizzeria.

Glad we booked here.

Friendly welcome on arrival and given choice of pitches.

Just be aware you need to be able to fit your unit and awning completely on the pitch so the required 6 metre distance is kept - some people were asked to move their awning after they had put it up as they misunderstood that.

Google maps took us straight there on the advised route.

Clean and modern facilities blocks. Push button showers - around 12 seconds per push which was bearable. Nice walk across to Embleton bay - first bit is muddy and lots of roots so watch your footing.

We also caught the bus to Craster and walked back along the coast - nice early lunch at the pub there (as there was no other option in Craster).

Useful tips for parking - in Bamburgh the castle car park is cheaper than the council one and accepts motorhomes, in Alnwick there are free car parks using a disc rather than paying the fee at Alnwick garden.

The site was excellent with spotless facilities. Perfectly placed for visiting the sights of Northumberland.

Staff were excellent, and in particular, Dave, who welcomed us and showed us to our pitch.

Sadly, we only stayed for 3 nights due to the weather, but this certainly wasn’t a reflection on the site and we would definitely stay here again.

First time back to here after four and a half years. We have always enjoyed visiting the site and this time was no exception.

The site is a mixture of hard standings and grass pitches and there is a slight slope on each pitch so you may need chocks to get your unit level.

There a four water points, one CDP and two toilet/shower blocks. One of the blocks is closed for cleaning between 10.30 and 12.00, the other between 2.00 and 3.00.

The one bin area is situated next to the toilet/shower block at the bottom of the site. There is also a children’s play area near this block.

The tv reception is good but our mobile signal was intermittent. The free wifi was very good at times and we were able to stream tv programmes. However at other times it was poor, although I could usually receive emails.

The site is handy for Craster, Dustanburgh castle, Newton by the Sea and Embleton. It’s not too far from Beadnell, Seahouses and Bamburgh. Holy Island is an excellent day trip but do check the tide times.

The site was excellent value for money as we paid less than £25 per night.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.

There is a walk of about a mile from the site through woods and sand dunes to the glorious beach where you have spectacular views of Dunstanburgh castle.

We took the bus (which stops just outside the site) to Craster and had lunch at a pub overlooking the harbour.

We then walked back over the cliff and along the beach back to the site.

A typical Camping and Caravan Club site - efficient and friendly welcome, sparkling facilities, good prices.

They have a new way of marking out pitches - marked squares which you are supposed to pitch in the middle of.

The weather this year meant that there was a big bare patch, not suitable for a small tent at all.

It took a little discussion to get agreement to pitch on the nice grass just behind. To be fair other sites have had bare soil too, once I was pitched it was fine.

Embleton has a lovely little village shop who do good coffee, and there's lots of interest around, inland as well as coastal.

Preston Pele Tower is well worth a visit.

We have just spent another enjoyable 6 days on this level and well-kept site. There are 2 good toilet and shower blocks which are kept spotless by the friendly staff.

There is an information room with lots of leaflets about the area as well as a book swap shelf and a freezer for ice packs. There was no site shop this visit, but apparently it will be back in 2024.

Plenty of good walking and cycling nearby plus the excellent beaches. It is a lovely walk from the site on footpaths down to the beach at Embleton. From there you can walk down to Craster or up to Low Newton.

The nearby golf club at Embleton is really handy if you are on the beach and fancy some refreshments. They are very welcoming to folk tramping sand in to buy ice creams etc, it is not a snooty golf club with a dress code. Plenty of outdoor seating available.

We also recommend the Jolly Fisherman in Craster, the Fishing Boat Inn at Boulmer and the Reel and Creel Seafood trailer in Bamburgh.

The village of Embleton now has a farm shop, which sold basics but also some quite posh stuff. The Dunstanburgh castle Hotel in Embleton offered takeaway fish and chips for £10 which was excellent. There is also a takeaway pizza oven nearby, called Embers, but we did not go there this visit.

The campsite was wonderful. Easy walkable access to near by Embleton Bay and Craster.

The campsite staff were helpful and kept the campsite utilities clean.

Other campers were friendly and followed the rules of the site.

After spending 4 nights here, we did not want to leave and could have easily spent another week at this beautiful spot in Northumberland.

The only thing we would have liked would be for the reception to sell some local produce eg eggs and milk.
