We spent 2 nights at this site over Easter weekend (Friday/ Saturday). The campsite is quite picturesque and in a lovely secluded location with stunning views of the surrounding hills and dales from all the pitches, yet Hawes is an easy 10 minute stroll.

During our visit the site was full but still fairly peaceful and quiet, despite having some big family groups. The 'strictly no noise after 11pm' rule was well respected and properly adhered to - the site fell really quiet at night, even before this time.

The campsite itself is split into 4 big fields, surrounded by lovely traditional dry stone walls and fences, with the pitches spaced round the perimeter of each field. This left the middle as an open field, which gave a real feeling of space and left plenty of room for kids to play away from the tents. They could accommodate many more tents here by utilising more of the centre space, but this would ruin the feel of the site and is a good reflection on the owners not sacrificing the comfort of their visitors by packing in too many punters. Having said that the pitches themselves are really quite narrow… given the size of some family tents and the need to accommodate a car too, I feel they could do with being a good bit wider.

The fields are really well maintained; more like a cricket outfield than dales pasture – the pitches are mainly level and the grass is kept short and manicured whilst remaining lush and green, and the ground really easy to peg into. It really is a pleasure to pitch here.

The facilities are adequate - basic but were always very clean. 20p for 5 minutes in the shower gives plenty of time. However the showers did struggle at peak times to keep up with demand for hot water (a notice in the shower block warns you of this in advance). At various points in the day I heard complaints from ladies having had a cold shower, particularly at peak time first thing in the morning. I showered later in the day, around tea time, and managed to have a perfectly acceptable hot shower, as did my partner in the men's, but this did seem to be quite an issue. The shower cubicles are big, but would benefit from something to put stuff on and separate it from the shower - the only option was a hook in the main shower cubicle which meant any clean clothes, wash bags etc were liable to get wet! I never had to queue or wait for either a shower or the toilets.

There also looked to be decent laundry and pot washing facilities for those wanting them (we didn't) and some recycling.

The owners were very friendly and helpful. I think you can get eggs and a couple of other supplies on site, but there is no on-site shop as such. However Hawes is just a short walk down the hill, where you can get most things you might need.

At £13.50 per night (2 adults, no EHU) we thought it was pretty good value for a BH weekend.

There is plenty to do in the local area; lots of lovely walks, waterfalls, nice pubs and the rope-maker, museum and Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes. We took a tour of Gayle Mill (also walking distance from the site) - it's well worth a visit, especially if you are lucky enough to be there on one of the odd weekends when they are hosting a demonstration of the machinery, really interesting.

We had some nice fish and chips from the chippy in Hawes.

All in all a good site, a couple of minor niggles but would definitely return.

Very nice site all round. Had a good three nights at easter, and although the place was about full, it was still relatively peaceful, despite some good-sized family groups. After-dark noise/disturbance was zero every night.

The facilities just about coped, but the showers did struggle at peak times (and a notice in the block will tell you this in advance), also the loos were usually occupied, as there were a good number of tents on site.

There were also decent washing facilities - for clothes and pots, for those needing them.

Maybe the tent numbers need reducing, or the facilities need upgrading? But, if its just holiday periods that this arises, maybe its not worth it? That said, I didn't actually hear anyone complaining about anything. So there you go.

The owners are very pleasant, always willing to be of assistance, and offer the barest of essentials in the on-site 'shop'. Though, Hawes is just a stroll down the hill, where you can get anything you need.

We thought the price of £16.50 a night inc leccy was good value for a BH weekend.

There are a number of other walking opportunities in all directions from the site. Bainbridge village, with its pub that does meals, being as far as we got at about 9 miles round trip over fields and tracks.

There's not a lot for the kids to do, but there's a big enough central field for ball games etc. - which plenty availed themselves of without causing nuisance.

As said, a very nice site all round, which we'll return to when its not a BH period to compare times.

I spent a week on this site in my touring caravan. It is in my opinion an outstanding example of what a campsite should be. The owners were friendly and very helpful, I really felt welcome on their site from the moment I arrived.

The toilet/shower block was always kept clean as was the rest of the site. The 20p for 5 minutes showers were more than adequate even for the 3 girls in my party to do their hair. It’s the only site this year where I didn’t get any complaints about the showers from them!

Plastic pegs went into the ground easily and despite some strong winds and rain whilst we were there, kept the awning firmly fixed to the ground.

The site is set in a stunningly beautiful area with Hawes a short walk away via a paved path through a field. Hawes shops provide everything you are likely to need.

Aside from plentiful walks in the area, there are other things to do even if the weather isn’t too kind!

A peaceful, relaxing site I would have no hesitation in coming back to.

This campsite is situated in a beautiful area not far from hawes centre (10 minute walk).

The staff are ever so friendly and they have milk/eggs to order if you want them.

They also freeze your ice packs at 50p and charge your phones for the same price (really helpful if your staying a week).

We asked for all 3 tents to be together and we was right in the corner at the back so it was nice to have our own space. Toilets/showers are clean and you have to pay 20p for a 5 min shower (which lasts more then that) it does warn you not to shower in peak times (Which I don't ) as showers go cold which you can expect at many small sites.

The field is set out great as all tents are around the edge and it gives you lots of space in the middle to play games.

Hawes is a lovely town with lots of lil stores. It also has a fantastic chippy! a great sweet shop (although advisable not to drop your millions all over the floor as the staff arent that nice) definitely worth a visit to wensleydale chesse factory as its great watching them make the cheese and then tasting it!

There are some really nice walks around hawes and if you are staying a week like we did then it is worth visting ripon which isnt far away as it has a beautiful cathedral and if you love rollercoasters defo go to Lightwater Valley!

Overall I would stay here again!

Stayed here for two nights as a lone cycle tourer. Hikers and cycle tourers are given pitches away from the family tent areas at the top of the field which is a bonus for those of us who like to escape children! The pitches there are slightly sloping, and the ground is good enough to get tent pegs in without the aid of a mallet. Hiker pitches are charged at £5 per night which represents good value for money.

The facilities are good, if a little dated, with clean showers and toilets. Showers take 20p coins and one coin seemed to give ample time for a shower. There are also good washing and drying facilities which might be helpful for those travelling light. The reception was very helpful and pleasant, explaining the site layout and showing me to my pitch.

It is very well situated for Hawes, where all the expected facilities are available ie Bank, Post Office, Local Spar, Pubs and an array of places to eat.

It was quiet at night on both nights I was there (Sunday and Monday) and I would be happy to stay there again. Recommended.

A very beautiful location and fantastic facilities. Hawes is only 5 minutes walk down the road also which means you're able to buy supplies you may have forgotten. Site cost £13 for one tent, two people and a car. Site owner also offers mobile phone charging for 50p which is a bonus.

Tons of space for children to play without bothering other campers and electrical hookups for motorhomes. Site owner was very nice and very helpful. Many toilets and showers.

Only downside we found was that being rather high up on the hillside it got very cold at night and the rain was pretty intense. The grass however where you pitch your tent is like a bowling green. A very recommended site !

Stayed here for just 1 night - wish we had stayed longer. Beautiful views, very friendly hosts, and plenty of space, they don't crowd you in! Toilets, showers etc are good enough. Short walk to Hawes, with some longer, spectacular walks in the surrounding area. Pubs in Hawes are fantastic. For £13 a night, this site is an absolute bargain, and will definitely be going back for a longer stay soon.

A really beautiful campsite just a 10 min walk out of Hawes. Big grass-fields with the spacious units being placed along the original Yorkshire stone walls leaving lots of open space in the middle of the fields for kids to play with their kites, etc.

Great base for doing walks in the Dales and exploring Hawes.

Very clean facilities (showers 20p for 5 minutes).

Free WIFI near the Office.

Very friendly and helpful owners and staff!

We are looking forward to come here again.

Our first visit to this site but will not be our last! A lovely site with basic but good facilities. Very well managed by site owners. Fantastic views of the Dales and a short walk into the marvellous village of Hawes. Ideally located.

Family tents being larger these days meant the pitches were a little on the narrow side, especially when the site started to fill up. However, loads of space for kids to play and equally great for simply relaxing. Beautiful.

What a lovely site! Basic, but in a good way!

We were a bit unsure to begin with, being told on the phone just to turn up as it's first come first serve with tent pitches but as we were arriving Sunday evening and staying at a quieter time we took the chance and how very glad we were!

Were very surprised at how busy the site became for a Sunday, but it was not noisy and we didn't feel hemmed in at all.

Site is lovely, generous sized pitches. Clear markers indicate pitches round the edge of 2 nicely sized fields, one much flatter than the other. All with beautiful views.

Cost 2 adults in a 4 man tent £14. Dog was no extra charge which is always a bonus.

Potwash facilities are ample, loads of boiling hot water.

Rubbish bins a little basic but they even have recycling available.

Showers take 20p's and 40p was enough for about 10minutes. Lovely flow and plenty of hot water even though they warn you to pick your shower times wisely away from busy periods just in case water supplies do struggle.

Lovely owner's, very pleased to help us. Were left alone to our own devices to enjoy this lovely site.

Can easily walk into Hawes. Were disappointed to find the only chip shop shut after 6pm and also closed on Mondays.

We could hear dogs barking almost all of the time (did quieten over night) but in the far distance. I don't know whether there is a kennels nearby but it could become quite annoying if we stayed for a long time.

All in all, we will be returning soon and would recommend this site to others wholeheartedly.
