Had a third enjoyable visit to this site with friends. As before, I couldn't fault the place. We find it very good for walking - in all directions from the site or nearby Hawes.
This time we walked maybe 4 miles across fields and a Roman road to Bainbridge village. There, we had a pub meal at the local pub in the village centre (name escapes me, so uninspiring was the food!) It really was the blandest fayre I've had from a pub in many a long day. I really wouldn't recommend it to anyone - including the dozens of flies congregating around the loos.
After which, we walked back on the far side of the river. If you take this route, and intend following the map directly to the site, be prepared for a challenge across stepping stones through the river! Otherwise you can continue on into Hawes, and return to the site from there, albeit its a longer walk.
We found the site owners very agreeable as usual, and this time even allowing us to up sticks late on the last day to enable us to grab a bit extra sunshine, instead of travelling home in it.
The site facilities I cant really comment on given we didn't use them as such (own loo/shower etc. ) Water pressure is good at the stand tap (which isnt always the case on some sites - bugs me to death waiting for the dribble out of some to fill the barrels!)
There's nothing for kids here by way of play facilities, which suits us fine being able to live without the little darlings when we are camping nowadays - miserable sod that I am.
Bound to return before long.

Stayed here three times now, this really is one of those sites than cannot be rated highly enough! Immaculately clean site and facilities, good pitches, friendly owners, and not too far to stagger back from Hawes' excellent selection of pubs!
Stayed as a family group and as part of a group of motorcyclists and have been made to feel welcome every time. Did I mention very reasonable rates too? 10 out of 10, look forward to squeezing in another visit before the snows come.

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic! What a fantastic campsite, with great facilities and the owners are very helpful and friendly.
Me and a friend travelled from Kent to this site in the Yorkshire Dales to do the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen-Y-Ghent. The campsite is only a 15-20 (ish) minute drive from the 3 Peaks, so an ideal site if you are planning on doing the 3 Peaks. It is also great for other walks/hikes and for visiting anywhere in the Yorkshire Dales.
The campsite is only a couple of minutes walk from the town of Hawes and has fantastic views of surrounding hills and fields. There is a field for caravans plus hard standing pitches in main field. They have a large main field for tents which has great views, there is also a smaller field for tents. In both fields there is plenty of space for children to play.
I also came here last year with my family, they also loved the site, my then 4 year old had a great time.
The facilities are great with good clean showers and toilets. Showers only cost 20p a time and you get plenty of shower time. They also have good washing up areas and washing machines and tumble dryers.
The owners of the site are very friendly and extremely helpful. We asked if they could leave gates open so we could go to 3 Peaks in the early hours of the morning. They were more than happy to do this for us, they also allowed us to park our car at the front area.
The price of the site was very reasonable. We arrived at the site at 9am, and unlike some campsites we were able to book in and pitch our tent at this time.
This was the third time I have stayed at Bainbridge Ings and on every occasion I have been more than happy with the site in every way.
This is definitely a favourite of mine and I will be returning.

This is a nice site but very open and very very windy be warned. Site is in ideal location 10 minutes walk from the town which has lots of shops, pubs & a chip shop (which I would avoid). The Wensleydale creamery is a must to visit lots of cheese tasting. The only drawback is I don't think the owners like motorhomes to much there is only hard standing pitches for about 4 of them and I don't like sitting in a carpark to relax. You are ok if you have the small types of two berth van you are allowed on the grass. Toilets and showers are ok although take a stock of 20 pences with you as shower only lasts 5 mins and avoid if more than 2 people in there as the water comes out as a trickle. I liked this site although I would not return because there is no protection from the windy weather and also because you have to park on gravel.

This is a lovely campsite with great views along Wensleydale. There are two fields for tents, one large and one small. We stayed in the large one: there are pitches marked out around the edge and middle was free, providing a great play space for kids (since ours is only four months old she couldn't take advantage). The grass is mown frequently and carefully and the field seems to drain well so there were no issues following heavy rain overnight. The site catches the breeze, which is good for drying your washing (although there are machines and a spin dryer if you prefer).
A right of way crosses the site and provides a nice walk across the meadows to the village of Burtersett, from where a landrover track/bridleway climbs up to Wither Fell - an invigorating five mile morning run if that's your thing, with a good view into Raydale and a better one when you turn round and look back into Wensleydale. Even better running terrain is to head through Gayle and ascend the Pennine Way to Ten Ends: an extra mile but only ten minutes more because of the easier gradient.
The site has plenty of toilets and showers, intelligently equipped with loo paper, handwash, hand dryer and hooks for clothes/towels (sounds simple, but not the case at so many sites). All the facilities were clean and well maintained and the people running the site were friendly, available and helpful but never intrusive. On a late night visit to the toilet block I found a hedgehog on the grass; later that night it made its way into our neighbour's tent, so make sure you do up the zips!
We had good fish and chips from the shop at the west end of Hawes (open until 9. 30pm), tasty Chinese from the restaurant at the east end of town (close to the rope making place) and the Wensleydale blue is not to be missed so I recommend a visit the creamery before you leave. Favourite day out: driving over Gayle Moor into Langstrothdale and walking from Yockenthwaite to Hubberholme - Dales scenery at its best (and a short eared owl on the way home). Surprisingly good tourist spot: Cotter Force, just up Wensleydale, beautiful and tranquil, take your camera. Hardraw Force was good too, I swallowed my principles and paid to see it and wasn't disappointed.
This is a great site from which to explore the Dales, but with the good views and facilities there's no problem if you want to spend a day on site.

Just returned from a very relaxed weekend. This was our first visit to this site and we were made to feel extremely welcome. The owners were very friendly and showed us around the site before we pitched up. All facilities were well kept and clean. In fact everyone we met on site were really nice people and the site itself is quiet and relaxing. Even the dog made new friends! Close to local amenities - Hawes is a gentle 10-15 minute walk away, with dog friendly places to eat and drink. Even after a stormy night the field wasn't too bad. Definitely added to our list for a return visit!

We have recently returned from a weeks stay at this site and we loved every minute. In contrast to our previous visit to this site a couple of years ago when it snowed (in June!) this time we took full advantage of the current heatwave and had a wonderful time.
The site is perfect for us. We automatically avoid any sites the have the phrases 'club house' or 'children's play area' in their description, preferring quieter more simple sites.
We arrived Monday morning and could pitch anywhere in either of the two spacious flat fields. Tents are pitched around the perimeter of the field leaving lots of space in the middle for games etc. This is really good as many sites would try and squeeze as many tents as possible on to the field.
However, think carefully about how/where you pitch. Each pitch is 6m wide, which with a larger tent like ours (Maritsa 500) doesn't leave a leave much room at either side. Because of the layout there isn't a lot of privacy and after 2 hours when we were sat outside our tent I wished we had pitched with the entrance to the wall. However the length of our tent would have meant that we were officially over our 6m allocation, I didn't want to disgruntle the owners so we left it how it was. (plus hubby said if I wanted to move it I'd be doing it on my own lol!)
For most of the week there was always a pitch or two between us and the next tent, however at the weekend the site was full. Not overcrowded by any sense but it lost that feeling of camping in the open country. Looking around the site some people who were camping in small groups of 2 or three tents did some clever pitching with windbreakers etc to maintain their privacy.
The facilities were spotlessly clean, they were slightly less so at the weekend but this seemed to be down to other campers inability to flush a toilet. Not exactly rocket science but there you are. We never had to queue for a shower and the 20p for 5 mins is ample. I like the idea of the timed 5 mins as it means that people go in shower rather than staying in there for ages and causing a queue, which I have experienced at some sites with free showers. The showers were always hot and powerful. There are also hairdryers and a place to plug in straighteners (20p.
The facilities could do with a bit of modernising - some tiling in the showers wouldn't go amiss along with some thought as to the layout. The showers cubicles are quite small so everything in there gets wet. The only option really is to leave your dry clothes outside the cubical which is not ideal, having said that it's no real issue. Just a possible future improvement.
The owners of the site are lovely and were kept busy with people back and forth freezing ice blocks for coolers which they did for 10p per block. They will also charge your phone for a 50p donation to the Air Ambulance, which I though was great.
Hawes itself is lovely with lots to do nearby, a selection of nice pubs and places to eat.
If you love a scone and a cuppa see my tips below;
Scone Disappointment: Ellies Tea Room - Hawes. Although I pot of tea for two and two scones with jam and cream. I was charged for two cream teas, at almost £10, the scone was obviously shop bought, dry, and tasteless. Poor quality, poor service and overpriced.
Scone Highlight: Visitor Centre Tearoom at Aysgarth Falls. Wonderful selection of homemade scones (tutti frutti, cherry, fruit, cheese) served with cream and jam and a smile. They are huge so will easily serve as lunch and only £7. 50 for two drinks and two scones. They were so good we went back twice.
Hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did.

The second time we have stayed here, and would thoroughly recommend it. The owners are friendly and helpful. The site well maintained. Yes the loo's are a little basic but clean and always supplied with paper and soap. The showers are hot and the water is plentiful, I never used up my full allotted time.
Rained lots while we were there, but the ground did not become soggy at all. Lot's of people staying but we never had to queue for the facilities, or felt like we were on top of anyone else.

Arrived on the Friday of May bank holiday was greeted by friendly owner who took details and informed us to pay any time before departure, and to pitch between white posts on the camping field-one large and a smaller one. Both fields were level which is nice in a tent, short grass which had just been cut so gets every where-hay-ho. The views from the site are the best in the Dale which make the site very popular at busy times.
The pitches between the white posts are not very large-in fact just about large enough for a small family tent, ours is a three man tunnel tent and with the guys out nearly filled the allotted space. When we arrived there was plenty of space between tents-however that changed on the weekend as more people arrived and you were almost tripping over the next tents guys they were that close.
The facilities are clean with VERY hot water which is good; the showers are good, but my pet hate is paying for the showers over and above the camping fees-20p for 5-7 mins, why not just increase the fees slightly. The wash room has washers and dryers. There are rubbish bins for recycling but some people still don’t bother.
The reception sells milk, eggs, gas which we did not find out till later. The Spar in Hawes opens at 08:00 closes at 18:00 every day-just as we got there. Hawes is nice, with walking shop, cafés, and pubs. The chippie/café is well worth a visit, and is about 10 min walk from site.
All in all a good weekend will be back but not on a bank holiday.
