This is the 2nd time ive used this site --1st time I took our caravan and dog, 2nd time went with the motorbike wife and a tent. Site is spot on with lovely views. Loos are clean and tidy with 20p hot showers (1 x 20p is enough to shower and I'm a big lad )
Owners are friendly and the site is clean and tidy. Hawes is a stroll across the field. Hawes 3-4 pubs all dog friendly even went to see a band.

Site and hawes well worth a visit

Just returned from our 1st camp of the season, couldn't have been better. Aware that you can't book the site (unless for 6 nights or more) we rang enroute (several times!) to check availabilitie, very helpful & friendly owners who even advised of alternative site incase we turned up & theirs was full ! Luckily - for us - they had a couple of pitches left. It is a basic site - with basic but clean facilities, it has a real laid back feel with no monies exchanging hands until we left (which didn't have to be pre-decided - quite a rarity on sites now) Very nice & easy stroll into a beautiful town of Hawes with everything you would need to hand (& without ripping you off) Originally only planned a couple of night break to try our new tent out but already trying to plan a longer visit as far too much to do in the surrounding area to cram into a weekend stay. 1st visit to Yorkshire but definitely not the last & would use this site again (if we could get in!)

Excellent site, good facilities and very friendly owners. We only stayed one night but were very impressed. Nice flat fields and short grass (always better). Plenty of room for our 5 children to get the ball games out and waste some energy.
Be aware that the pitches are marked out and are only 6 meters wide so we had to pay for two as our tent is 7 meters, even so it still worked out reasonable, we have paid more when paying per person at less well equipped sites.

We drove up from Sussex with our 14 month old daughter to be welcomed to this part of England with drizzle!

The site is surrounded by the most beautiful, rugged landscape, and during storms the week we were on site, it was very spectacular. If a bit difficult to sleep in a tent with a force 9 gale blowing and rain lashing.

Our daughter slept through pretty much all of it, lucky her!

The site owners were very nice and extremely helpful, posting up weather reports each day for the few days ahead. As well as selling Gas, milk and eggs, they also charge phone batteries and car batteries if needed for a small (pence) charge which actually goes to the local air ambulance.

The facilities were basic but clean. We didn't have to queue at all for the showers, and no one seemed to mind when me and my husband bathed our daughter in the big sink in the washing up room - this was because it was the warmest room on site - this was also very useful in drying tea towels and clothes that got wet (on a daily basis). There are airers in the washing up room around the boiler, these became very well used in the week we were there as I think nearly all the campers had something to dry!

The field we stayed in was beautifully maintained, I have never seen a field with fewer weeds and such lush green grass! It did get a little boggy underfoot due to the rain, but as we had wet weather gear with us this made no difference.

Having the tents all around the edge of the field was great - we could let your daughter crawl about (in her all in one dry suit)in safety, knowing that we had full view of her and she could quite happily eat the grass (don't ask!)without picking up rabbit poo too (they look like raisins to our little girl).

There is plenty to do in the area but the nearest supermarket (not Spar)is in Richmond, which is a bit of a drive away, but the town itself is very pretty and you can combine a shopping trip with a visit to the castle there.

All in all I would give the site 10/10, we would love to go back in the sunshine as I'm sure it would be even better.

We have just come back from a weeks stay and what an experience. It was our first time to north Yorkshire and found it beautiful. We found the site very easily and the welcoming very warm. There was only one problem we experience, which was no fault of the site owners, the weather! There had been torrential rain prior to our arrival which had made the site extremely wet. The owners found the driest part for us as there was two frame tents and a tourer. Unfortunately the tourer couldn't pitch near us but they were put directly opposite us on the field.
There are enough showers and washing up sinks available. Dont expect plush toilets but what you get adds to the charm of this lovely site. As others have said there is plenty to do in this area and you couldn't wish for more on this site.
Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning in the future. Washing machine dryer iron ironing board all available at reasonable cost which came in very handy with a three year old and mud!Aa torch at night for those trips to the loo will come in handy. All in all a brilliant campsite.

We holiday every year as 3 couples, and managed to book three pitches next to each other for eight days. The site was very well kept and the pitch size was quite large, even for bigger tents. The site itself was surrounded by countryside and benefited from fantastic views. There is a public footpath running through the field so hikers can begin their trek straight away! (the Pennine Way is 1/2 mile away). The showers are very clean, and operated by 20p coins and last five minutes, which was plenty of time. There are also hairdryers (which can be disconnected and changed for hair straighteners, etc) which are 20p for five minutes. I never once queued for a shower. The pot room doubles as a drying room (handy for walkers who get rained on!) and has three sinks so again no queues. I was also pleased to find there are recycling points for cans and paper.

There are fresh milk, eggs and gas available from reception, as well as ice block freezing for 10p per block.

The owners are very accomodating (I emailed several times to change the date of the booking and was treated in a friendly manner). During my stay, I needed to find a kennel for my dog and the campsite owner arranged this for me herself straight away and even gave me a map to the kennel!

The village of Hawes is 10 mins walk away, (so you don't always have to drive!) with an abundance of pubs, shops, cafes, restaurants and a bakery/butchery. The Crown does a lovely lamb shank and is dog friendly! There is also a rope makers, the Dales Museum and Wensleydale Creamery in the village. There are plenty of local attractions such as waterfalls, museums and castles within miles from the site.

Overall, 10/10 we will be staying again in the future.

We went here for a week and had a fantastic time despite the weather in the early part of the week. The owners were very helpful, and even found information about tent shops on the internet for us when our tent was faulty. The facilities were clean and the drying room was very useful. Even though it was the summer holidays, we never had to queue for the showers/toilets. It is a short walk to the village (Hawes) which had a good range of shops and pubs etc. There are lots of public footpaths nearby and we walked a lot-some days we didn't even take the car out.

It is a lovely quiet site and we were sad to leave, hopefully we will return again once we have explored other parts of the country.

Stayed here with 5 adults and 2 kids. A very warm welcome to this campsite to say we had just turned up @ 9 am as requested by site owner in a previous phone call.

So to the campsite. There were 3 large fields that I saw 2 with tents and 1 for vans all very spacious and with well cut grass. You camp around the edges next to a wall which was good because it acted as a wind break for us.

The wash facilities were basic but got the job done. The toilets were clean with warm showers which cost 20p.

All in all I rate this campsite experience 8.5/10

Oh the best bit was it cost only £14 total the site only has 2 stars I think its time it should be 3. Would visit again.

We've just come back from 2 weeks at this site with our 2 children aged 15 and 11. It has everything you could wish for. The 20p shower was plenty long enough and hot water was always plentiful. The washroom also doubled as a drying room, a brilliant facility for the hikers camping on the site. There were 3 sinks in the washroom and a further 2 around the back of the shower block for washing up. We never had to queue.
The layout of the site maybe a little regimented but everyone had the same amount of space and the middle of the field became a fantastic cricket pitch for the children. The owners couldn't do enough for you, they were very friendly. Ice packs were frozen for 10p and milk and eggs could be ordered. All in all a fantastic holiday,we will be going back and recommending it to our friends.

I've just come back from my first ever camping experience and am pleased to say that the camp was brilliant. The owners were kind and friendly, you could order fresh milk everyday and eggs if wanted. The pitches were marked out which made for no over crowding and the only sound at night were the sheep.

The showers were piping hot every time and powerful, the toilets were spotless and there were three sinks provided to do the washing, so there was no queues.

All together this was a brilliant camp and glad that I chose this for my first camping experience and will certainly be returning.
