Great site - beautiful location very close to Hawes. The spacious pitches are in two well maintained fields with great views served by a basic but clean and efficient toilet block. Probably the quietest and most peaceful campsite we've visited. The owners were friendly and helpful.
My one gripe is the 'no gazebos' rule. During our stay the weather was very changeable making it difficult to do any cooking at the tent without the shelter of a gazebo. If you pay for the pitch it shouldn't matter what you put on it as long as you don't encroach on other people's pitches! Some tents on the site had entrance extensions (which are basically fitted gazebos) and caravan awnings where ok, so why not ordinary gazebos?
Nevertheless, we would definitely stay there if we were visiting the area again.

Good central location for North Yorkshire Dales. Short walk into Hawes which contains adequate shops for all provisions.
Site can be a little windswept due to open location.
The facilities were always clean and presentable however, things may get a little cramped during busy periods.
When using the electric hook-up care is needed due to the low rating of 6 amps or 1600 Watts.
The site was quiet, well presented and very much in-keeping with the surrounding area. Certainly will be re-visiting the site and area again.

We have yet to return to a site we have already used, but this might be the first where we do. A fantastic site just outside Hawes but within very easy walking distance through the fields, which were full of sheep with their newly born lambs when we stayed.
The site is well kept and we were well attended to when we arrived, being shown where our pitch was, well actually they gave us a choice in the field closest to the Hills.
The toilet facilities are good, and the 'power' showers are 20p for 5 minutes which was plenty long enough for me, and the water was very hot.
This is a family site although with no play ground or facilities it is a nice and quiet family site. The children there during our visit were all very well behaved and there was no 'wild' running about.
Satellite reception is good here if you need a TV picture, not sure about Freeview though. Mobile phone coverage is good for basic phone and text use, however smart phones struggle a little if you are wanting constant access to the internet, but do work - just very slowly.
Although we were there for 5 nights just before Easter we didn't need to use the car much because there is so much within walking distance. The Wensleydale Creamery is a short walk along the back road in Gayle, and there are plenty of walks from the site footpaths up onto the moors.
Other attractions in Hawes include a Ropemaker and plenty of pubs which serve food. Our favourites were the Crown and the White Hart but if Fish & Chips is your thing there is a particularly good one on the main road.
Fully recommend this very relaxed site, We shall certainly be back.

Lovely site in fantastic area. Walking onto hills and also to town- I managed to leave the tent, walk to shop, buy bacon, queue to pay and get back to tent in 20 mins!Site does sell milk, eggs etc and freeze freezer packs. Toilets and showers clean- we had no problems with hot water supply. Site owners were lovely- we had a medical emergency whilst there and they couldn't do enough to help- drs, phone, hospital/ ambulance info. They also made sure we could get back onto site ( locked gate) late at night. I do agree that pitches are narrow but we paid for 2 pitches which was still reasonable price and gave us enough room. Lovely atmosphere in evenings- lots of children playing together. All quiet by 10pm though. Will visit site and area again.

I visited three times in 2011 and found the owners to be very helpful and accommodating. It was the first site I'd ever stayed at and didn't have any expectations.
I found it to be very pleasant and relaxed. With good camaraderie amongst those staying.
However The facilities aren't great - being run down, dated and grubby. The heating was ineffective, or non existent.
The showers cost extra which is a bit much as it isn't the cheapest of sites - I've found free showers and better facilities at a lower cost elsewhere.
On a more positive note, it is perfectly placed to see a beautiful part of Britain. Lovely location just outside of Hawes- close to the Pennine way and many great walks. Hardraw force is one of the finest waterfalls in the Dales and only a mile away. But do take the drive over the Buttertubs pass to Twaite, Keld. Swaledale is stunning!

This is a lovely site, set in four areas with the caravans and tents set around fields with large spaces between.
The children play happily and safely. It's delightful to see them. This is our third visit, our second this year and everyone we have spoken to has been before.
The facilities are not fancy but adequate and the competitive fees stay the same throughout the year - no higher charge for the school holidays or add-on for children.
Nearby Hawes has everything needed in the way of provisions. No supermarkets but local shops selling local produce, not to mention the Wensleydale Cheese factory just along the road.
There is a good variety of pubs, restaurants and cafés, perfect for no-cooking days and the back-packers who are always welcome even when the site is full.

Two adults & one 11 year old boy, stayed 3 nights.
Lovely site, able to choose where to pitch tent, excellent views. Facilities always clean, showers hot & I'm sure they lasted longer than 5 mins.
Only 5-10 minute walk into Hawes, the butcher/baker shop sells good quality food, the Crown pub has relaxing atmosphere, excellent food at reasonable prices, & sells books for charity (in case you run out of reading material).
Lots of walking from site, could stay & not use car.
Tan Hill pub is worth a visit, although unfortunately I cannot recommend the food - used to have good quality home cooking but sadly no longer, we had small portion of soup with a half frozen breadroll, & it was a quiet day!
The last night was the worst that I have ever spent in a tent - torrential rain & galeforce winds. Some tents didn't make it through the night! Owners very helpful; provided strong black bags, & towed a trailer tent up from a lower pitch after car failed to cope.
Will be returning next year.

Lovely location - with a short and pretty walk into Hawes, and plenty of other walks to do nearby. Quiet surroundings.
Quite a large site divided into allocated pitches around the edge of the fields. £13. 50 per night for 2 adults with tent and car.
Unfortunately the shower/toilet facilities need updating, and there were not sufficient showers for the size of site. They charge 20p for a 5 minute shower, which is a gamble if you don't know if it will be hot! One of each set of three showers is set at a lower height - about armpit height if you're tall, so not very helpful!
Would benefit from a bit more privacy, and spaces for motorhomes which have both hardstanding and grass.

A fantastic site very friendly and pleasant stay the scenery is fantastic. The showers and toilets kept clean.
Its a short walk into Hawes with some very good pub and places to eat. They were all dog friendly which was great for us.
The only thing I would say is the constant grass cutting its a silly moan but you end up treading grass everywhere and would prefer if they could collect it only a little gripe really.
We will definitely be back though another great site.
There are plenty of walks you do for all tastes and experience.
The Wensldale Creamery is worth a visit

What a lovely site! really quiet and friendly,
It was nice to be able to walk into hawes without using the car,
We spent 6 enjoyable nights here with our 5 year old grandson, he loved the freedom of being able to run around and we liked it being able to see him at all times.
The only downside was not having enough toilets and showers to cater for 4 fields of people, could do with another block, having said that we didn't have to queue,
We will definitely be going back again!
