We arrived on site to a really warm and friendly welcome from the owner. No pressure to pay straight away (as on more commercial sites) and we where shown where to pitch.
The pitch was well marked and around the edge of the field (No pitches in the middle) so there was plenty of space. The fields are all well kept with short mown grass. The toilets and showers are basic and concrete floored, but really clean. The showers take 20p which lasts for a good five minutes, nice hot and strong. I just used one and it was more than long enough.
There are chemical disposal, Water and waste points. Separate Fields for caravans and tents, along with a limited number of hard standings for motor homes.
The views of the surrounding country side on site and just at the entrance are stunning. Wildlife and farm stock are abundant and not much noise from traffic, just the occasional car passing. It’s a great base for either touring or walking the Yorkshire Dales.
Hawes is a short ten minute walk away along a nice foot path and has more than enough pubs selling good food to keep you fed. The only supermarket is a spar shop, but has an excellent butchers and bakers (opposite Herriot’s) that make steak pies that are to die for! No Vegetable shop though, which I didn’t really think about until I came home.
Market day is on a Tuesday, out door and indoor (but the indoor isn’t very good) and a cattle market on the same day.
For me this has been one of the best sites I have stayed on, really relaxing and stress free. If you are looking for a site with no frills facilities, located in stunning scenery then I can’t recommend this site enough.
The weather whilst we where here was absolutely atrocious, as it was across most of the country, so much so, that we only stayed Two of the Five nights we had booked.
If all goes to plan we will be booking for May next year (2010) as I enjoyed the site and there is still much to be seen in the local area.

Just had a two night stop at this lovely campsite. £13 a night for a tent, car, two people and a dog. All the pitches are a decent size and reasonably sheltered as you pitch next to the dry stone wall that surrounds the site. The grass was very well looked after. The staff were friendly as well as the locals, one of whom found and somehow managed to returned my mobile phone to me at the site!
The toilet facilities were pretty good. They weren't too busy and were clean. 20p for the showers but you get a good 5 minutes or so for that. There are also good wash facilities including 2 washers and a spin dryer. Hawes itself, which is a nice place with good cafe's shops etc, is only a nice 10 -15 minutes walk away and on a night there is a nice round walk that you can do from the site into hawes then back again via Gayle. All in all I would recommend the site to anyone

This was our second visit to this site and it was still great. As others have said the tent field is spacious. The week we spent was not in school holidays so there was plenty of room - tents are only allowed around the edge of the large walled field. Toilet block clean and washing up/laundry room lovely and warm - which was appreciated as there were snow flurries one day (it was early June!). Hawes is great - a nice walk for the paper or what ever. Also plenty of walks from the campsite. Beautiful wild flowers in the adjacent uncut fields - and plenty of wild birds - including a corncrake.
We will certainly be visiting again.

Our second visit and what a lovely campsite with good, clean facilities and good drainage. Although it is many years since our first visit, we forgot just how nice it is. There is great countryside around and spectacular views from the site. It is in walking distance to Hawes where there is plenty of choice when it comes to pubs and cafes which were not too expensive. A great location for exploring the Dales. A weekend was not enough. I will certainly be back.

Just had 2 pleasant nights on our first visit to this campsite. The staff were very welcoming on our arrival with no pressure to pay immediately, in fact we paid the £26 on our way out. Tents are pitched around the edge of the fields so there will never be anyone directly in front of you leaving plenty of room for kids to play without being too close to the tents. The washing facilities and toilet block are spotlessly clean and tidy my only criticisms being regarding the showers. There isn't enough room to put your clothes except for hooks inside the cubicle where your gear gets soaked. Also, the shower heads are too low and anyone over 5' 11', as myself, will bang their head on it. Water flow also seems to be a small problem, in fact, I had finished washing my face before the sink had actually filled. Maybe this was due to high demand early morning.
Hawes itself a very picturesque village about a 10 minute walk away with 4 pubs serving expensive drinks (£5.75 for a pint of Kronenberg and a regular glass of wine) also a few cafes and tearooms serving food. Lots of gift shops, a couple of antique shops, a Spar, one other grocery store and a butchers.
The surrounding countryside is visually stunning with plenty of footpaths for walkers.
Would I go back there? Probably.

We have just enjoyed a two night stay at this lovely quiet site for our first visit to the area. On arrival the owner was friendly and very helpful and didn't expect payment until we left, which we thought was really good as it made the decision to stay as long as we wanted to, very easy. The facilities are adequate and the toilets, showers and washing up areas are kept clean. There are two areas to pitch tents. We stayed in the large area and the pitches are marked out around the perimeter and spaced nicely apart to ensure plenty of room for everyone. You can choose your own pitch from ones available on a first come first served basis, although bookings are taken for six nights or more.
Milk and eggs are available on site and freeze packs can be frozen for a small charge.
Hawes is a short distance away and there are numerous footpaths into the town, all very picturesque. The surroundings are beautiful and every way you look from the site you have a stunning view.
There are more than enough pubs in the town that sell food and we can recommend 'The Chippie' for excellent fish and chips. Also a Spar and some small local shops to buy all basic requirements for your stay, along with antique shops and other interesting shops.
There are plenty of places to visit nearby but over the three days we were there didn't use the car at all, as there was enough to do in Hawes!
A highly recommended site that was recommended to us and we were not disappointed at all. We will definitely be staying again as we found our time there thoroughly enjoyable.

We stayed here over Easter bank holiday for 3 nights. We couldn't book so called to check the site availability.
The site still had some spaces so we were able to pick our location. The tent pitching area is a good sized square space where people pitch around the edge.
The footpath into Hawes takes around 10 mins and it a nice walk, most walks in the area can be started from the campsite.
The shower and toilets were plenty - although the shower water was not always hot.
A nice campsite in an even nicer location.

Third time lucky! Must book as gets very busy even if it means book the six nights and only stay for three as so reasonable. Fantastic site and well worth the visit. Everything we like in campsites. Just us a family of four with another couple. Grand views, short walk into Hawes. Plenty of pubs cafes and restaurants. Great walks around. Good market at Leyburn on Saturday. Facilities clean and campsite well looked after with very pleasant owners. Large area in middle for children to play ball games etc. If a criticism tent plots very close together. Depends on neighbours and ours on both sides very accommodating.

We have just returned from a 4 night break. This was our very first camping trip. When we arrived unfortunately the winds had picked up to what felt like gale force! not the most ideal for first timers. With help from 2 sets of neighbours we got set up (cant thank them enough). The views are fantastic, and it looked like most plots had as good a view as us. All plots run around the edge of the site leaving plenty of room in the centre of each of the fields. The facilities were as everyone else has stated, very clean but not the newest. We never had to queue but we liked to use the showers around 2 to 3pm (straight after they had been cleaned). The walk into Hawes is very pleasant and didn't take much more than 5mins. Plenty of shops, pubs etc. Fantastic surroundings with lots of different places to visit each day. We would recommend this site again, and hope to be back later in the year

Enjoyed staying here. Nice, well organised site with numbered pitches. Slightly sloped site, although we were lucky enough to be nominated a level pitch.
£16 per night for an elec hookup touring caravan pitch. Extra charge for awnings. Showers 20p for a 5 minute shower.
Close 5 minute walk to town of Hawes. Small, pretty tourist town. They have a Spa shop which appears to be the only shop to buy groceries from for miles around! So come fully stocked with supplies if you don't want to be ripped off by the local Spa shop and don't want to have to travel 20 miles plus to find a supermarket!
