We only booked with 1 days notice and were a bit sceptical as this is only our second time under the stars. (or clouds). We ( wife and 2 girls of 5 and 8) stayed 2 nights, and now wished we had booked for longer, really nice staff greeted and took us to our pitch on the rally field, the pitches are very large and spacious with no neighbours to overlook you. The setting of the pitches meant there was ample room left for the kids to play on, that is when we could drag them out of the very impressive park. There is a small shop but it has all the things you forget. The shower/bath toilet block was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The only downside is there is not a lot to see near to the site, any site seeing will be done via a car journey, this didn't bother us as we wanted to see as much of the area as we could. Great weekend and will definitely be going again.

We have just returned from 2 weeks at this site.
The pitches were really spacious. We still had space on our hard standing with 6 berth caravan, awning + annexe and our car. The hardstanding pitches are stone chippings and you will need rock pegs.
The playground was really well equipped. Our 7 year old was there all the time and it was very popular.
The site was very full when we were there but it didn't feel overcrowded. The toilet and shower block was great. Lovely free hot showers with loads of hooks and things to hang your soaps and towels. Only had to queue a couple of times and both times was less than 5 minutes wait.
The shop although small seemed to sell everything from pegs, airbeds, electric hook up plugs to milk, bread and good balls for our mad dog who kept losing his in the stream!
The dog walk is a big open field with a football pitch one side and a walk around the edge along a quite fast flowing but shallow stream. Fantastic if your dog likes ball games as you can throw it a really long way! Also fantastic if your dog is not that good around other dogs as you have a clear view of anyone else around. There is also a wooded walk just outside the park which is lovely too and was very well maintained. (there is a small map of this walk available in reception)
There are plenty of dog waste bins and rubbish bins / waste disposal points around the site. We were also lucky enough to have an electric hook up point with a tap so we got mains water too as an unexpected bonus.
We didn't have great weather but even when it rained heavily we had no standing water on our pitch and it didn't get muddy.
We visited Robin Hoods bay which was lovely but busy, Filey south beach was nice and also dog friendly.
We had a lovely walk from Sutton Bank visitors centre off the A170 near the double hairpin bends. (caravans are banned on this route and you can see why when you drive it!)
You do need a car to get around but we knew this when we booked. There is a Sainsbury's in Scarborough and a big Morrisons on the A64 going out of Scarborough. The nearest shops are the Costcutter in Thorton Le Dale and a Co-op in Pickering.
Great site, there were a few noisy children out very early one morning shouting around the caravans but apart from that it was surprisingly quiet. Would thoroughly recommend it.

I have just returned from 11 nights at this site and I will definitely be going back what a great site! all the pitch's both tents and vans were level and well drained with plenty of space there were plenty of water and rubbish collection points which were emptied frequently.
Though we don't have kids there was a very good play area for them and a large field for ball games which also doubled up as a dog walking area with a path provided around the side of the field. The site shop was open all day with a good range of supplies both food and drink and camping spares.
The toilet block was clean and though the site was busy I never had to wait for a shower which were free I might add, there was even a bath! though a charge was made for this. Washing up facilities were clean and tidy but queues did sometimes form perhaps more sinks are needed in that area.
Locally ie Allerston village though very pretty had no shops of its own and only one pub which could only be reached by crossing the very busy A170 (the bar meals though a bit pricey were very good)
All in all a superb site handy for visiting any number of attractions in N Yorkshire

Excellent site - have stayed here 3 times now in the last couple of months. One of our favourites!
Toilets and shower block are excellent, always clean and tidy, lots of hot water, just great facilities.
Always lots of room for tents, don't feel cramped together, even when they were very full this weekend.
Owners and staff very welcoming. Shop on site is very good, stocks all your essentials - even wine and beer at reasonable prices.
Park is great for the kids.
Owners even let us stay all day Sunday for no extra charge. All round excellent park.

Just stayed here for a week. Facilities are pretty good. There is a shop selling a small, but adequate range of food, papers, toys, camping equipment etc. The wardens are friendly on arrival. The toilet block is big enough to serve the needs of the site - it has free showers (although you have to push a button every 12 secs to keep the water going) and free hair dryers (although you have to keep pushing a button and they are pretty slow) and baths which are charged at £1. There are laundry, microwave and freezer facilities. The playground is excellent.
Tent pitches are either on the rally field, along a hedge stretch or by the caravans with electric hook up. We were along the hedge. It was flat which was great. The downside was, that despite my friends asking when they booked us in if it was used by dog walkers and being assured that all dogs are on leads and follow the dog walking route out of the entrance to the site, walkers do take dogs along the short gravel road and out to the dog walking area. Many of the dogs we observed were not on leads, and most of them did their business before getting to the dog walking field. This isn't that pleasant - we like dogs, but considering we'd been allocated an area where we were told it wouldn't be a problem, unfortunately it was. All that is needed to rectify the problem is a sign asking dog walkers to keep their animals on leads (which is a site regulation) and to follow the dog walking route. A similar sign is up in front of the rally field.

Just returned after spending our 3rd camping trip at the Vale of Pickering. The site on the whole has lots to offer and, as we were initially, I can imagine many visitors would be reasonably impressed with the site. However, after several visits there are a few less positive elements we have noticed.
Positives –
-Spacious flat pitches, pleasant surroundings (green and generally well maintained grounds).
-Comfortable toilet blocks with plenty of toilets, family bathrooms, free showers and plentiful hot water.
-Well stocked shop with generous opening hours and information cabin with lots of information about local area and attractions.
-Generous children’s playing area and playing field for ball games and kite flying.
-Easy booking and check in arrangements.
Negatives –
-Many dog owners take a short cut past the hedgerow pitches (I, J, K onwards) in order to access dog walking area (no banking or fence is in place to prevent this). Many owners let their dogs loose early. Dogs regularly urinated on the grass and tents.
-No electric points in shower block (although free hairdryers are provided, they provide very poor air flow. It took 40 minutes and umpteen button presses to dry my daughters and my own hair!).
-Some older trees close to tents require substantial maintenance – large dead branches.
-Although playground area is generous, be aware that it can become extremely busy during the evenings/weekends.

We booked late for this site and found the process pain free and the staff were very friendly over the phone.
On arrival booking in was very efficient and we were directed to our pitch on the 'rally field'. The field is very big and each pitch had plenty of room, it has been very well drained with gravel drains every meter, this also meant that we were glad we had decent mattresses, it would have been tough sleeping on a karrimat.
Unfortunately we were allocated a pitch next to a bunch of people who were clearly there to drink themselves into a stupour. The size of the field also meant they had to drive to the toilets, a significant feat bearing in mind how much they drank.
Facilities were very good, the toilet blocks are impeccable and they even have baths, a rarity in the UK Campsite cornucopia. There is a great children's playground and a small shop, which closed too early (1900 on a Saturday).
All in a nice site, large and busy with great facilities. Shame our stay was influenced so heavily by the neighbours.

What a fantastic site.
We have just returned from our first family camping trip and I think we picked a great place for it. 2 adults, 3 year old and an 11 week old.
We booked on the Monday to stay Tuesday to Friday on an EHU pitch. Think we were only able to be accomodated because it was midweek, its a popular site. We were on pitch 1 on the rally field (think there were 2 EHUs on this field) and there was only one other tent there at the other end so it really was us and the rabbits (lots of rabbits, good fun for the little boy!) Pitch was sheltered with a high bank and trees behind us, nice and level.
Some pitches seemed to have EHU and own taps which was a nice thing to have I suppose.
The facilities were fantastic (we have probably been spoilt!) Free showers (push button though), clean and tidy at all times and always loo roll. Ladies had 2 bathrooms too (£1 charge) which was a nice addition when you have children (1 in the mens also according to DH). Washing up room was great, lots of sinks and one specifically for vegetable prep! Table in centre to put things on. Laundry looked very good but we didn't use it. Freezer for coolbox ice packs and a microwave that can be used too. Lots of bins and water points. Bricks provided for BBQs and a place to put used ones.
It was quite busy on the main site but quiet, lots of the caravans looked like they stayed for a while, it all looked flat to me. The playground was brilliant and the little shop seemed to stock most necessities plus some camping bits. Newsagents van between 9 and 9.30.
There looked to be a lot of nice pubs in the area although none that close. The countryside was lovely. In Pickering there was a chinese and an indian takeaway which was about 8 mins to get too if you fancied it.
We went on the steam train in Pickering to Whitby and back again and also visited Scarborough.
We will definitely be returning.

We have just spent 3 wonderful days at this site. Very friendly staff, very clean site. Spacious pitches. We had an EHU for our tent so were in the same field as the caravans etc. But this was ok. Only 1 minute walk to the facilities. Excellent location within easy distance to Whitby,Scarborough & Filey. We would recommend this site to families or couples and will definitely be returning.

We couldn't fault this place at all. Very clean, friendly, efficient, helpful. The toilet block was modern and well maintained, the shop was pretty well stocked and prices were very reasonable, and the play area was great for kids and served as a meeting place for the older children as well.
We stayed here over the Whitsuntide weekend so the camp was pretty full, which suited us because we love to see a place 'bubbling'. However, all was quiet later on so there were no disruptions for those wanting an early start.
Due to its location you need a car, but good sight-seeing is close at hand, such as Pickering/railway, Scarborough, Whitby and North Yorkshire Moors.
There are also two pubs within walking distance (max 1.5 miles) in Yedingham and Allerston.
We'll definitely stay here again.
