We visited this site in April, although the weather was poor we had a great time. With a 5 and 2 year old being situated near the park was ideal. The park was under construction at the time but did not affect us. The toilets/ showers were spotless, 20p though for showers but worth paying if they are hot and clean I say! A very well kept site with spacious pitches. There is a small well stocked shop which was only open 30 mins a day during the week. This changes to longer opening in busier periods. The location is excellent as your are 5 miles from pickering where the steam train runs to Whitby via goathland, 12 miles from Scarborough, 12 miles from Malton, York is 35 mins drive. Not to mention Flamingo land 10 mins drive. We tried the Cayley arms which is 1mile from the site, food ok, beer good, new owners finding their feet. Overall an excellent site and we will return.

Decided to brave the elements and went to the Vale of Pickering site at the weekend to try out our new caravan and make sure the newest addition to our family (4 month old Tom) enjoyed caravanning without travelling too far from home. VERY IMPRESSED!
We all enjoyed our short stay just down the road, especially the kids! We were sited right next to the play area, which to the delightment of Max (5yr old) and Joshua (3yr old), had an old tractor for them to play on as well as a very good selection of play equipment, (which we were told by the very helpful and friendly on site warden is getting updated very soon with a large wooden adventure play area). We all decided within a very short time of being that we would definitely be arranging another visit!
Everything was spot on, from the well stocked shop to the very clean and well equipped toilet/shower/bath block.
Would highly recommend it to anyone visiting North Yorkshire, as it is well situated for trips to the coast and alot very interesting tourist attractions including Eden Camp war museum and Flamingo Land theme park and zoo.
A fantastic family site and breat value for money!

We booked this site to stay here for the new year celebrations, staying for 3 nights. The site was very easy to find with clear directions given on the website.
Booking in at reception was easy, and we were given a map indicating our pitch which was hardcore hardstanding but level. The site was immaculate and was stunningly decked out for the celebrations with christmas lights and displays everywhere which was a beautiful sight at nightfall.
Toilets and showers/baths were spotless with private washing basins and plenty of hot water, showers, baths & hairdryers were all 20p and the facilities were centrally heated.
The 10 amp electricity supply coped very well considering it was cold and damp and the site was full, but did not feel overcrowded at all.
The highpoint of our visit was the new year celebrations which the site owners and management had gone to great lengths to make it a fantastic way to bring in the new year with a heated marquee and a brilliant display of fireworks at midnight.
A lovely site with welcoming wardens,in a lovely area - well worth a visit!

After having read the reviews on this campsite & both my partner and I were both new to caravaning, we thought we would give this campsite a try. So glad we did, the site was fantastic, the wardens very friendly & the kiddies park was spot on for our children aged 3 & 10. Ask for a spot right next to park, great for keeping an eye on them. Showers/toilets nice and clean. And warm! shop has everything you need, like idiots we had forgot our toothbrushes, shower gel & a mallet for the pegs. All this was available & reasonably priced in the on site shop, no pub on this site although there is one about half a mile away from site. I would definitely recommend this site as I have myself booked to go again.

We booked here for the August Bank Holiday. We were so lucky with the weather for a change, glorious. The site is neat and tidy. The shop is reasonably priced (we had to replace our airbed as the valve broke - and the replacement was less than we paid for the original one)
The site is well equipped with a play area and a football field.
The rally field is well sheltered and despite being very full we never felt it was intrusive. The pitch's are large, we put up our 26ft tent with wind breaks and parked the car, and could have added a gazzebo and pup tent easily had we needed.
Showers were hot (But watch it, take a min to get there, don't just jump in) and 20p gets you about 5 mins. Enough for a good shower. The ladies shower room has two baths as well, so if you have young children your sorted. Despite being busy we never found the facilities crowded (That said we showered around 10.30 at night so I can't say what its like earlier in the evening.
Plenty to do and see close by, Thorton le dale is lovely, you have Pickering and Scarborough and Whitby all within 15 mins to an hour away.
Great Site, pleasant people.
There are rules. But they do not stop you enjoying yourself. They are there to make sure every one enjoys themselves. We will return, for sure. Well reccommended.

We chose the Vale of Pickering Caravan Park for our first camping experience with two young children aged 3½ and 20 months. We had a great time and this was a perfect place for children. A lovely play area kept them entertained and the site in general was secure and very well kept. The site has a 10/10 rating from us and I don't believe you could find much better. The showers, toilets and washing facilities were excellent as was the washing up room. Plenty of hot water and very well cleaned and maintained. The staff were very friendly and helpful and this made an excellent weekend and great value for money too. We will definitely be back next year - for a longer stay.

We used this campsite as a base when we went for days out at Whitby Scarborough and Flamingo Land as its position suited us. The site is well presented with a good shop where you can buy all of the camping essentials that you may have left at home, and when the tent is up you can even buy a cold beer! The field for tents is flat and is surrounded on three sides by embankments and hedgerow on the other giving protection from high winds, We asked for a large pitch for our 8 man tent and had plenty of room for the tent and two cars. The toilet block was quite a long way away as we were pitched near the bottom corner of the field but the toilets and showers were kept extremely clean even though the site was full. The park also has a great play area for the kids and our 4 loved it, highly recommended Score 9/10

As I use the reviews for the campsites, I thought I should write a short review of our stay here for the night. Our pitch was right next to the toilet block which was handy for us but then everyone else had to walk past our tent to use it as well! The toilet / showers were clean enough, but I would recommend anybody going there to try and use the showers before the morning as they are only cleaned once a day between 11am and 12pm. You are asked to mop out the shower after you have used it and by the morning the water in the bucket was brown, I am not sure whether this water had been left from when the showers had been cleaned the morning before! Also the showers are 20p but did last long enough for me to shampoo and condition my hair and have a wash. There are a couple of hair dryers provided in the ladies (not sure about the gents) and these were also 20p, no separate electric sockets for my own hair dryer or straighteners which was disappointing. On the positive side, we found the shop was well stocked and I thought was priced fairly reasonably and my 4 year old loved the play area. To sum up I wouldn't rule out this site completely as we did enjoy our stay, but I think we would try a different site next time we are in the area.

Well we've just had our first trip out in our tent and decided to give this site a try, it was the OH first time out camping so she wasn't sure what to expect. The site is easy to find, just follow the camping site sign off the A170 as you get into the village of Allerston. It a way back from the main road, which makes it quiet and safe for the little ones who use the playing fields out the front entrance of the site. All the facilities are grouped round one block which is about 100m from the rally field (maybe 150m if you're in the far corner). Even though we were there in the school holidays the showers/toilets etc were clean and plentyful. Never had to queue. The OH liked the idea that they had baths and said they were clean. There is a charge of 20p for the showers/bath/hair dryers. We like this part of the world, Scarborough, Pickering, Filey a stones throw away. We will definetley go back and explore more of what this area has to offer. Only down side was the lovley neighbours that we ended up with! They didnt seem to grasp the idea that they were in a tent and that the whole world didnt want to hear their rantings.

There are nice open fields and plenty of room. Recycling areas are very good a trailer comes and collects your rubbish. Shower blocks have toilets, showers, baths and wash rooms. There is a washing up room for pots and pans. The shop sells ice cream, food and all sorts of drinks. The play area has a big range of aparatus.
Star rating 9/10
The information above was written by my 9 year old daughter and this shows a true description of what she felt about this lovely site. We went as a family with friends who have 3 children and we all agreed this was a great site for families. The site was well maintained and in a quiet location. Easily accessible for Dalby forest where we all had a great day out and used the swimming pool in Pickering which is about 4 miles away. Will use this site again soon as it's not far from out Scarborough home, but far enough to avoid the Sea mist.
