We have just returned having spent the New Year period at this beautiful site. The site is well laid out with plenty of large hard standings spced around large grassed areas which were covered in snow during our stay. Water and electic points are all close by, as well as the elsan points so you dont need to carry a full cassette long distances. Electricity is limited to 10 amps and considering -9 degrees at times didnt trip!
The managers of the site are very amienable, letting the ukcs crew store their caravans for the 3 weeks before the meet on the empty pitches for a nominal charge, and also loaning us the marqey for our New Year Dinner. The site caters well for New Year with an organised get together in heated marqueys and a good firework display at midnight. Children would normally be shoo'd off the play area at 10.30 to give the surrounding caravans some peace but on new years eve the kids played until after midnight. The wardens keep a strict eye and ear on the playing children and are swift to reprimand bad language, fighting and dangerous play with punishments of parental report, time out for 1 hr and then a ban, over strict for some but I think its a good idea(personal thought).
Would like to spend some time here when the sun is shining and the grass is green not white/brown and intend to do so once the summer gets here.

Loved this site! This was my first ever camping experience and whilst the weather was freezing (think we had all types of weather, snow, hail, thunder, lightening, rain, sun he he he) it converted me into a camper. I have since been to other campsites but still compare it to this one.
The amenities block is excellent, very clean and hot water, the block had both baths and showers. My niece and nephews thoroughly enjoyed the play area and the staff in the shop were fantastically helpful. The shop although small sold everything that you would need at reasonable prices and the site isnt too far from Scarborough if driving.
I Would definitely recommend this site but I advise to book as it is a popular site as previously said. We all thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will definitely be returning as its an excellent base for a weekend visit.

Been coming to this campsite for 3 yrs now, always clean and friendly, easy to get to, good size playing field for football. Kids play area smashing, shop has everthing you need, papers delivered on a Sunday morning. Only down side to the campsite is if you don't book early you will not get a pitch as it is a very popular campsite, always a first choice site for a weekend away.

Just returned from this site (2 adults and 2 children) one aged 6 and the other 12. We found the washrooms/shower cubicles very clean at all times. Lovely hot showers everytime, several times I saw the warden inspecting the toilets to make sure they were kept clean. The site layout is excellent and is kept very clean and tidy with a superb childrens play area.
The shop was very well stocked for all your needs. The wardens and staff were very helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We had a thoroughly enjoyable and pleasant stay and will be returning in the near future

August 2005 We (2 adults and 13yr old) chose to stop at this site because of its "luxury washroom" (quote from different website). I have to say what luxury - yes it was adequate but I don't call masses of cobwebs and really slippy floors luxury! The shower cubicles are tiny to say the least - about as big as a toilet cubicle!! under the toilet seats in the gents was filthy! it had possibly had a paint job but thats about it.
The site itself was very clean and tidy and well laid out, with lots of shrubbery.
Had the loudest children in the place near our pitch who woke up at 7am and bellowed at high pitch from then till bedtime!
Overall had a nice time but the "luxury washroom" let the site down.

August 2005 We found this site by chance and for us it was ideal. The shop was well stocked, reasonably priced and open for ages, 9am til 7.30pm, with friendly, helpful staff. The facilities were excellent, and the 20p for the shower was good value for money. The playground was great for the younger kids, and we thought that the opening times for it were sensible, much as we like kids you don't want to be disturbed by them after 10.30pm!! The football pitch seemed to be popular with kids of all ages, but as others have mentioned teenagers might get a little bored. There is also a small information "shed", with brochures and info on local tourist attractions. We have already recommended this site to friends and will be going back ourselves next year.

August 2005 Just returned from a two night break here - our first ever camping trip, so we were not sure what to expect (so bear in mind we have nothing else to compare our break to).
However, we were really pleased with the campsite. It was situated amongst lovely countryside and was very quiet. We were in the rally field and had plenty of space. A chap on a trailer led us to our pitch, and wasn't too exact where we needed to be, so we were free to pitch as near or as far (within reason) to the next tent.
There's a couple of pubs within a five minute drive by car (1.8 miles - we measured it. It's walkable but as we have a pram and it's down a narrow country lane with no path we felt we'd better drive). The Providence at Yedingham is a lovely village pub with great facilities for kids and the best steak pie I've had for a while.
The campsite is well maintained with plenty of bins and water taps dotted around. Toilets and showers etc. nice and clean. Had to queue at 8.30 though, so would suggest an early shower.
Lovely play area, and prices in the shop very reasonable.
Overall, I'd highly recommend it. Can't say the rules that a previous post mentioned were a hindrance to us.
We'll definitely visit again!

July 2005 My family and I spent 5 nights at this camp site in the middle of July. The site was neat and tidy and well kept and the toilet / shower block was modern and clean - as someone else has mentioned it is closed for an hour or so over lunch time for cleaning. One thing to mention though is that the showers are 20p and we found that you needed generally 20p or 40p for them - worth bearing in mind for larger families as it puts the hightly rate up considerably.
The childrens play area was very good and seemed well maintained - more suitable for younger children. There wasn't really anything for older children on the site.
All that said, I now come to what we found to be the main problem with this site. There are very strict rules and regulations - it seemed that everywhere you looked there was a sign saying "No..." or "Don't ...." or "PARENTS...". Some of which include no children in the play area before 8am or after 9pm, all children back to tent / caravan by 10.30. In addition, the gates were locked at 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11.30pm on Friday, Saturday and Bank Holidays and not opened until 7.30 or 8am the following morning. To be fair, there were no particular rules which seemed unreasonable (although locking the gates at this time seemed rather extreme - maybe they have had problems in the past but can't see it, this site is really in the middle of nowhere) and none of them affected us at all but it was rather the feeling of regime and being under curfew (not just for the children but the adults too!)that struck us as strange. And although we were never affected by any of them, it just never made for a really relaxing atmosphere.
Whilst it is a well maintained site etc, I can't see we would return as it just wasn't quite right for us.

June 2005 Just spent 2 nights at the Vale of Pickering (Saturday and Sunday). This site is ideal as a quiet getaway. Myself , my wife,my sons aged 10 and 13 and my boxer dog all enjoyed it.Allthough we havn`t been camping/caravaning very long we`ve seen enough to know that the standards are very high. It is beautifully maintained with lovely blooming flower beds and hanging baskets everywhere.
The toilet/shower ect facilities were the cleanest we`ve ever seen. We never witnessed any noise from other people staying , most of whom seem to have their caravans permanently on the site. The plots are nearly all hardstanding and the electric hook up posts all have water taps on them , saving a walk to a central tap like a lot of sites have.
The site shop is small , but has most things you would need and isn`t extortionately priced . There isn`t a site club/pub but this isn`t a problem if you like a tipple as there are 2 good pubs only one mile walk from the site , and a very nice walk it is , through the village of Allerston. We have no gripes with our stay at all , the site staff were very freindly and helpful and we will be going back some time.
PS the caravan route avoiding Sutton Bank is not the most pleasant to drive when towing a 16 foot caravan

June 2005 Very similar views to everyone else. We had four nights here and the kids loved it - so much we hardly saw them as they were off playing all the time! I felt safe that were within easy recall and the location of the site meant there were no casual passers by.
Nice large, level pitches with gravel. We had a central pitch which backed onto large grassy areas. These are also used by tents wanting electric hookup so are quite spacious to allow the tents the softer grass option.
I like the option of a bath especially for getting the kids clean. We had mixed weather (including a thunderstorm!) but throughout the wet weather the toilet block remained remarkably clean. Well worth a visit.
