Visited this site on my first ever camping trip. Found it a great experience and cant wait for next year. Camp site was really nice, amenities very clean and showers hot. Kids enjoyed the little stream running through the middle of the site. Nice walk into Osmotherly and its 3 pubs. The Golden Lion will allow dogs inside if you sit at the bar and ask nicely. Didn't get chance to do all the local walks so will be going back next year. Highly recommended, on site bar would have been nice though!

Lovely site but a bit overpriced at £28.50 per night for a family tent and especially the bank holiday minimum charge of 5 nights!
Shop not open soon enough for breakfast stuff and doesn't sell newspapers! 15 min drive to Northallerton for good supermarket!
Great site for kids but not a designated ball area, not good for footie mad son!
Bit of a walk for young children to the village but lovely once there! Fab walks around about.
Quiet rule is enforced at 10pm so don't go here if you want to chat with your friends and family after this time!

Spent a very pleasant week at this campsite which is beautifully located in a sheltered 'dip' in the countryside. The pitch we had was quite small - other tents seemed fairly close and kept us awake on a couple of nights - loud, inconsiderate campers who spoiled it for several people.
The facilities are immaculate - the best I've ever been to - warm, very clean and 2 blocks to choose from.
Plenty to do in the area - lovely little village within walking distance - 3 pubs and a great fish & chip shop.
As it's in a dip, my mobile signal was poor - OK once at the top of the driveway.
Small shop, laundry facilities at a reasonable cost, boot drying room, bath (£1 for 15mins hot water).
I would certainly return to this site but at a quieter time of year - it was packed!

Visited the campsite with 2 adults and 2 children 5 and 3
This is the best campsite we have stayed at and located near woods.
The location is great and there is plenty of walks or bike rides that you can do.
Take time to visit the reservoirs all well worth a visit.
Toilets very clean and showers hot with underfloor heating.
10 mins walk to local village and 3 great pubs, shop and cafe, fish and chip shop.
Please try the golden lion as they have great guest beers and the food is out of this world
The only faults that I would find with this campsite is could do with tarmac roads for kids to ride bikes on and tv reception poor but why you would need tv as there is so much to do and see.
We will be defo visiting this site again very soon

This was our second visit to cote ghyll and we consider it to be the best site we have ever visited. The couple who own the site Mr & Mrs Hill are very welcoming and very approachable. The site is extremely well cared for and the showers and toilets are constantly being cleaned and looked after. There are two shower/toilet blocks on the site. Disabled facilities were also available. This camp site is 1/2 mile from the village of Osmotherly and what a lovely little village this is. Two shops three pubs and little gift stores. I would highly recommend this site to anyone.

One of the best sites I've ever been. It is located in a beautiful and secluded valley with a small beck running through the site. The lovely village of Osmotherly is close (10 min walk) where you find a small shop, some pubs, a tea room, a shop for walking equipment and a fish&chips shop (Wed-Sat).
The site is easy to find but could be difficult to access because the road is quite narrow while cars parking along in the village - but there never has been a problem! Mind a 14% slope to Osmotherly.
The staff is very friendly and helpful, the warden is always on site. All is kept very clean and the toilet facilities are immaculate. (We've prefered the 'wooden' toilet block which was less busy). The 'stone' toilet block is located more centrally.
We stayed there for 10 nights. The pitch was divided in a hard standing and a grassy area (as most caravan pitches are).
There is a busy family area near the playground. The playground seemed to be great because there was always lots of action and screaming of children sometimes until 10pm (but never later!). So if you seek for a quiet place ask for a pitch far from the playground.
The little shop on site provides just the basic things, you will have to go to Northallerton (8 miles) for the nearest supermarkets.
The site is a great starting point for walks to the Moors and trips to the Dales and many many other places of great value (just check their tourist information panel on the site). If we visit this region again we will definitely return to this site.

I have just returned from 5 days camping at Cote Ghyll with my husband and 3 children 3,4 and 7.
The washrooms (new block) are really good, clean, and spider free! very important to me! When we arrived (early) I wasn't happy with the pitch so we scoped out the other empty pitches and chose a pitch opposite the play park thinking it would be great for the kids. They were great about changing pitches and we quickly got set up while the kids played. The area is beautiful and the walk to the reservoir with a picnic is well worth setting aside a day for!
I felt happy that the kids were safe playing as most of the other campers drove slowly however one camper did insist on reversing past the park every time.
The local village is beautiful and typically yorkshire with a cafe (ok food) a shop that does cashback for 50p charge and 3 pubs and a very quaint benedictine monastary.
Fairly quick driving to York and scarborough which we did a couple of times, also Northallerton which is 20 minutes max has a lovely high street large tescos and small morrisons. We also had an indian from there (bengal fusion) very nice.!
We also used the family bathroom to give the kids a good hot soapy bath on the last night - great £1 for 15mins hot water and nice clean and warm like the whole block, also used the washing machine £2 and dryer 20p for 5 mins, boot drying also good.
Now for some downsides.
The 'no noise rule after 10pm'is not enforced, we were kept up every night bar one by noisy campers and their visitors (we were pitched next to the warden). That said he did deal quickly with some noisy teenagers who were running riot in the play park at 9oclock.
Have your shower either at night or early to avoid having to wait.
The shop isnt open early enough for breakfast to get your milk.
They really need to have some safety signs around the park asking people to slow down and look for children playing.
Also the park could do with a run barrier or kissing gate to prevent the kids running straight out onto the side road.
Some extra tips
After reading a review on here I took pitch 64 this and the one next to it are great if you have young children.
Take wellies and old clothes the stream is great as is the play park but they will get mucky,,
Set aside a day to walk up to the reservoir and have a picnic we only managed a quick look before it got dark there is a car park at the top end too if you don't fancy the walk.
There are crazy bunnies that come out at night when you walk to the shower block (new one worth the extra walk)maybe take some carrots.
Hope you enjoy as much as we did. X

Enjoyed a two night stay on this busy but very pleasant, tidy and well maintained site. The toilet and shower blocks were the best we have come across so far in our 2 years of camping!
There were only two downsides to the whole weekend and they were the lack of mobile/tv coverage and also the lack of grass to our wet pitch. Saying this though, we are definitely coming back here and may bring friends/family too.
Our pitch was insight, but not too near to the playground, which entertained the kids (aged 7 & 4) well. We took the dog with us this time and there were plenty of places to go walking.
The shop on site was well stocked for any essentials and the owners very friendly.

Lovely site, we really enjoyed our stay. Found the wardens very helpful. The toilet blocks were always clean and the laundry facilities very good. We were in pitch F9 which had a slight slope but it very manageable. Electric hook up worked fine.
Lots to do in the surrounding area to keep the kids happy, lots of tourist information available on site. Onsite shop was well stocked with basics and larger supermarkets available in Northallerton.
Daughters used the wifi which did work but was sometimes a bit hit or miss.
The only bad comment we have is that all the roads have large chips which we found very uncomfortable underfoot - our dog ended up cutting one of its paws on the stones

This was our 2nd pitch with our tourer and the road through the village and on into the site can be a little tense at times (the locals don't seem to slow down at all) but we got in and out without to much stress.
We pitch we where allocated (61) was as they said right opposite the children's play area so you can relax but still keep a watchful eye on them
The site itself was very clean and tidy and well maintained, toilet block both male and female was well looked after at all times.
As we where in the family area there was a constant bustle all day until 10pm and it all went quiet (amazing)my 3year old was in her element playing on the park for most of the day all day only coming off with a fight for something to eat or a wash.
T.V. Reception was not the best very hit and miss (your in the bottom of a valley) but we managed for 3 days without any real problems.
Overall I would recommend this site,
But the in road aint for the faint hearted
