NB: Reviews from the Easter period should be considered in the context of the weather at this time. Heavy snow fell over much of the UK

Spent two days of the Easter weekeend at this site. The facilities on site are excellent, with modern shower blocks and underfloor heating. There is even a bath, which will cost you a quid, but well worth it when you fancy a change from push button showers.

Site owners were welcoming and friendly and ran the site efficiently.

There had been quite a bit of snow, which had melted prior to our arrival, so the ground was very boggy. The site would benefit from more hardstanding pitches, especially as they charge £19.50 per night for two people! Site owners note: This is a bank holiday rate, not low season and includes other things eg. Kids under 5yrs old

The local area is great, with excellent walking around the local forest, reservoir and the Cleveland Way. The village of Osmotherley is pleasant with three pubs, all serving food, a general store and a chippy.

An excellent site, well worth visiting!

Cross your fingers on the approach through Osmotherly to the site entrance – the route is very narrow and appeared to be permanently heavily congested with parked cars on both sides of the road. If two caravans were to meet in opposite directions then one would need to reverse a LONG way to let the other one pass. I’d stick to the arrival and departure times which may help. Thankfully we only met a motorhome with a reversing camera! Site owners note: The narrow approach is actually only 200yds long

The grassed areas of this site were very boggy. Could be because the site is in a valley or there may be a problem with drainage. I’ve read earlier review who noted the same. Site owners note: The Site was wet and boggy because we had just had one day of 1” snow (melting in ½ day) and the following day with 2” of snow which had literally melted in 2hours!

Positives for this site – well there is a serviceable tractor which was well used pulling every one out of their pitches, they don’t charge. Site owners note: Tractors have been necessary on a lot of Sites (including ours) over Easter to pull caravans and 2 wheel cars out of snow

If you need to be off after 12pm then there is a late departure fee of £3 (must be the extra electricity you use for that last cuppa!) Site owners note: Late departure is actually £3.50 and allows you to stay up to 6pm, instead of having to depart by 12pm

The play park is fine for the kids and the new shower block is well appointed and very clean. The area is well worth a visit also.

Me my wife and 3 children stayed at Cote Ghyll for 2 nights in our small 6 man weekender tent (which we found to be too small) we found the site was very clean and tidy shop was small but could do with selling more camping aids like guy lines and fewer toys.

On the day of our arrival I managed to flatten the battery on my car and within a few minutes of looking my wife found the very helpful warden who jump started my car (Twice Doh) We took our dog with us so we found the walks very good so did the dog. In Osmotherly the small fish and chip shop sold the best chips I have ever had. There is a very well stocked Post Office/General store, had a couple of bottles of wine.

We have just invested in a Outwell Hartford XXL and are looking forward to going there again our 3 children were off playing while we pitched the tent, two of them coming back wet as they found the stream, our pitch was right next to the park and was of adequate size for the tent we had, however we will need to book a larger pitch for the new tent.

This is a very pleasant site and would and have highly recommend it to anyone who just a quite peaceful relaxing break and will be back there early next year whatever the weather

Just returned from a wonderful few days at this site. When we arrived on the Sunday the owners told us that the site was virtually empty and just to have a look round and pitch were we liked - so we did!

Nice large pitch almost next door to the toilet block/dish washing area (which was very handy!). Toilets and showers etc always kept very clean and I really liked the underfloor heating. The only thing I would say is that the shower doesn't stay on very long before you have to press the button again - I had to develop a technique of pressing it with my back. We had a look into the new shower block and that also looked very nice (power showers in there I believe).

Site was very quiet whilst we were there (2nd week in September), and we had a very relaxing time. Osmotherley the nearest village is a very pleasant 10-15 minutes stroll away with some very nice pubs (we particularly liked the Three Tuns), there is also a fish and chip shop which we never got to test as it's only open Wed-Sat. Northallerton is the nearest town (about 6 miles away) - nice place and has everything you could require including a couple of camping/walking shops and a large Tesco's.

Plenty of walking virtually straight from the camp gates - we particularly enjoyed a very pleasant stroll around Cod Beck Reservoir on a lovely sunny September day. We also spent a reallyenjoyable couple of hours at the James Herriott Museum in Thirsk - well worth a visit and at £5.20 we thought it was excellent value for money.

The only downside to this gem of a site was the ground - it was extremely hard / rocky and instead of taking roughly an hour to get our tent up, it took nearly three with several broken pegs!

We do intend to return - there's lots more local walks that we simply didn't get a chance to do, but next time we'll take some rock pegs with us!

This was the 1st time I had ever been camping and I can honestly say I was spoiled.
What can I say, the playground was great and you can see it from most of the pitches. The pitches were big and the shop was always well stocked. But most of all the toilet and shower block were spotless and had underfloor heating which was great(you never got out the shower and froze to death getting dry).
The owners were very friendly and helpful. Just down the road is a tiny little fish and chip shop, i think there is also a pub but don't quote me on that.
Will definitely recommend and will be going again.

Spent 3 nights here last weekend with another family.  We were pitched in a terraced field over the bridge.  This meant we were quite a long way from the toilet facilities - not that big a problem as it was generally dry when we were there but wouldn't be much fun in rain.  We felt that the pitches were a bit on the small side - we both have Outwell 6-man tunnel tents (so big but not huge) and there was no space to park the car next to the tent, it had to go in front (and even then there wasn't much space) - out of every row they could do with losing 1 or 2 pitches.  Ground was pretty flat but bumpy.  Toilet facilities were clean and modern.  There was a small park for the children.  There is a small stream on the site - we were fairly comprehensively munched by midges, and there was a stagnant smell every so often - not sure if it came from the stream.

Osmotherley is a lovely village - we had a great meal in the Three Tuns which we would recommend.  The scenery is stunning - we drove up Sutton Bank (NOT FOR CARAVANS) then made our way back over the moors via Rievaulx and it was simply beautiful.  On the last night there was a meteor shower and because there is no light pollution it was most impressive.  Lots to do in the area.

Good but could do better in some areas.  Would return if we could choose a better pitch - not over the bridge!

This is a well kept site in a very nice setting. I would agree with the other reviews about the good condition of the facilities, the easy access to the nice village of Osmotherly and the nice walking to be had straight from the site entrance. It is an excellent base for exploring the western areas of the North Yorkshire Moors.

The only thing that I would take issue with is the following statement on the site's own web site:

"There are designated “family” and “quiet” areas on the Park. You can reserve your preferred area for pitching when making your booking."

Acknowledging that we were going away for a weekend in high season, I specifically looked for a site that had a designated quiet area and booked accordingly. However, in reality this was not the case. Although we were in the "quiet" field near the entrance, the site wasn't really big enough for this to make a difference. We were woken very early each morning by large groups of children playing very loudly in the trees behind our tent (which formed the barrier between the "quiet" and "family" areas) or around the vehicle barrier. I can't blame them for this as I would have been doing the same as a kid, but we had really hoped for a quieter pitch and I think that the owners perhaps need to make it a bit clearer that this may not be feasible at busy times. We also had families with youngsters in the top "quiet" field and they were regularly running screaming through our pitch (even jumping over a boiling kettle on one occasion). The other problem with the top field is that you might be placed very close to the barrier and the main site entrance/exit which also adds to the noise.

On a positive note regarding noise, the site was very quiet during the evenings and over night with no rowdiness or loud music going on etc.

The only other slight niggle was that the check out time is 12 noon which is the same as the check in time for the next people. Perhaps an hours gap might be a suggestion. Even though we were comfortably packed and clear in time (11.45) we had the next party basically waiting/hovvering next to our our pitch with their car and caravan from about 11ish on our day of departure which didn't make for a particularly relaxing de-camp.

The site and it's location has more positives than negatives, but I would think twice before returning at busier times of the year if I was expecting much peace. The site owners obviously do their best, but the site isn't really big enough to have the advertised areas in a way that makes much difference.

We have just returned from a lovely week at Cote Ghyll. We stayed in a static caravan. It was ideal for us with 3 children. The caravan was immaculate. It was luxury with central heating and plenty of comfort. The site was very well kept, it had a shop, a stream, playground, woodland walk and tarmac tracks around. The owners were friendly and helpful. There was also a warden available on site who also was very helpful.
We were also able to use the toilet and shower facilities on site which were immaculate, spacious and of a very high standard. Excellent tourist information, family bathroom and laundry.
The shop on site was well stocked and and we were 10 mins walk from very pretty village of Osmotherley having local post office which sold newspapers, maps of the area, wine, veg, fresh meat etc etc.
Three eating places/ pubs to choose from in same village.
We loved it and felt that the children were safe playing outside the caravan as site was quiet. We would walk to the village in the evening have meal, have a drink then walk home.

Very close to the road network and close to beautiful Notrh Yorks Moorland.

Ideal base for walking enthusiasts - right off "Cleveland Way".

Would return and would recommend. Kilburn White Horse, North Yorks Railway, Helmsley and Whitby recommended places. Thank you.

We have used this site quite a few times but unfortunately not 2007 yet due to work commitments.

Jon and helen are great, the toilets blocks and showers are spotless even during busy times and the site is really peaceful and a pleasure to wander round.

As said we've not been since aug 06 but have booked a pitch end of august this year for 4 days as really we wouldnt go anywhere else as this site has everything we need from good hot showers, nice clean washing up area, family bathroom, washer and dryer, small on site shop, security barriers, electric on all pitches and good value to match.

We booked over the phone, and actually drove down to pay our deposit so we could look around the site as we've not seen it for a year.it was exactly as we left it,clean, peaceful and so tempting to go home and grab our gear for a long stay.

Jonathan remembered us straight away, and even inquired if my sister and family where coming again ( as they generally do),took our deposit and we agreed which pitch we would like, then ok'd it for us to have a wander round site with the kids.
The only surprise was that last year there was an old field which contained old caravans and an old barn had magically transformed into another pitching place with all electric pitches and caravan standings, which in our opinion only betters the site.

This site is always peaceful, apart from kids playing nicely (ours too) and everyone we've ever met here has courtesy for each other quietening things down around 10 pm,which means even if you fancy a beer and a late night sometimes then no one minds provided noise is acceptable which most campers agree with on sites around England

Alll we can say it well done cote ghyll and we'll see you soon what ever the weather.

Got to the campsite on friday afternoon in the middle of a thunder storm, the worst down pour we have experianced camping. Considering the amount of rain the ground was in fairly good condition. Facilities were incredibly clean considering the weather. The kids played in the park and enjoyed the stream running through the site. We made use of the walks around the forest, up to the reservoir and into Osmotherley. A nice little village with a couple of pubs all doing food. a great weekend. Our second visit and we'll definitely be going back.
