Great Bank Holiday Weekend here, weather was slightly wet ... but that's the fun of it all. This site had plenty of rain weeks prior so it still had not managed to dry out. And we had a day and a half of rain. So wellies bought were a good send. Great site though. Plenty Hot Water and Johnathon and Helen are always at hand to help. If you want a quiet break even with the kids get yourself to this site. Great walks too.

A very beautiful site with good clean amenities. There are plenty of walks leading from the site, the one around Cod Beck Reservoir is highly recommended. The owners are very helpful and are always there when needed. Definately will use this site again.

August 2004 We found Cote Ghyll to be a nice small site with very clean facilities and close to some great pubs and a good fish & chip shop in Osmotherly. We would definitely go back as it was very quiet after about 10pm and had a playground to keep young children entertained.
The owners are very friendly and helpful and have a small shop etc on site. We were camped in a field, which was across a bridge over the Codbeck stream and up a bank. The pitch was quite flat but due to the heavy rain during the proceeding week was the whole area was very wet and a couple of cars needed a push (mine included) and one was towed out by a tractor (not mine). Somebody mentioned that the field is only used at weekends, perhaps as an overflow.
In nice weather this site would be really great. I wandered up to the chippie on Saturday night and ordered fish & chips, I then spent a pleasant half an hour waiting for them, drinking in the Queen Catherine pub next door.

August 2004 We visited this site 1st week in august as we wanted somewere peaceful and relaxing. The road leading to the site is in my opinion unsuitable for caravans as it is very steep and bumpy. Our pitch was next to the toilet and potwash area and was very un-even. After we had set up me and my family went to explore the site, we came across a mucky, dirty stream and a very small play area much to the disappointment of my 12 and 14 year old children. The showers were clean, hot and free and the potwash area was large. I was not keen on the idea of tents popping up along side and in front of the caravans. I thought the site itself was clean and tidy but personally think it was pricey. 4/10

July 2004 Used this site as a base as my parents only lived 30 miles away and wanted to go to my fathers retirement. Ended up staying for four days and wish we could have stayed longer. A really beautiful area with extremly helpful and friendly staff. Will defenately be going back so we can see more of the area (but dont tell my parents ;-))

July 2004 I really liked this site. I found the owners - I presume! - to be friendly and the toilets clean. The village is only half a mile away and there's a lovely country pub that we went to and sat outside and then had chips in the local chippie!! Aside from thinking about my stomach the site was in nice countryside and quiet and secluded. I would recommend for a quiet night in North Yorks!

From 1990 TO 2003 Used this site loads nice site get left alone to do what u want (within reason}. Been there walking and in the car.but the best is 6 of us turned up on motorbikes, no prob staight on (but if u do go on a bike dont spoil it). Pubs in village arnt as good as they used to be,gone abit yuppy, but ones still ok. The best one was like the slaughtered lamb(american wearwolf}, shame its gone.

22nd May 2004 Lovely caravan site. Very scenic and relaxing. Nice 10 min walk to village. Kids loved the walk we accidentally went when we wandered on past the entrance to the caravan site - through forest, up hills, over streams, a young explorers dream. Kids also loved playing, fishing in the onsite stream (not deep enough for their inflatable canoe). Unless your pitch is near the stream then you tend to be in the shade from about 3.30pm. Better to be on the higher field to get the sun longer - till about 5pm, enough time to have your BBQ. Can't wait to visit again as I came back completely relaxed and feeling healthy after those walks!

31st May 2004 I was stopping with the family in a 10 man tent. The site is picturesque but is not suitable for tents. The pitch had hardly any grass and very rockery. Most pitches are on slopes so hope it doesn't rain!.
The shower block only had two showers in the mens and three in the ladies which wasn't enough, and you sometimes found yourself waiting for the loo. The kids play area was nice but a little small.
If you are looking for somewhere scenic with a nice village this is the place and we always like this kind of place rather than being too commercial but the only disappointment was the ground on which to pitch and should only really be made available to caravans. 6/10.

May 2004 Smallish site in a valley, with a stream running through it. Pitches for approximately fifty caravans and forty tents. Overflow field is really part of the main site, so don't be concerned if you're put there. There aren't many spots for tents on level ground. For caravans, this doesn't matter so much, as they can be adjusted. If you're in a tent, you may have to hunt for somewhere level enough. When we arrived, lots of people had pitched their tents on sloping ground (weirdos), leaving us some nice level spots.
Toilet/shower blocks indeed spotless, seem to be cleaned every day by the owners. One of the blocks is much nicer than the other, and has a place to plug in your hair straighteners! Great play area for kids, plus they seem to love the stream.
Osmotherley is a nice village with a shop that sells stuff you might need for camping, plus one that sells Nice Things, one that does second hand books and one that's just weird and has about three magazines (and nothing else) for sale. There's also a post office, which sells the cheapest biros in the world, corn flakes, etc. The Coffee Pot cafe does a great all day breakfast. The 3 Tuns is a posh restaurant cum bar, which does food arranged vertically for a reasonable price.
Very nice, but book early and don't bother if you can't stand noisy kids. Walking into the village requires scaling a small hill. Site owners very friendly. Milk, bacon, eggs, sweets, beans, etc. available from owners at their house (which is at the site entrance). Didn't get bothered by any escaped leopards, as my urban girlfriend had feared.
