Stayed for two nights on a very rainy weekend. Nice peaceful site with a good play area for the children with lots of lovely walks to be had. The toilet block was great and had underfloor heating in shower. I only had two issues. Firstly, despite being on our own in a field with no other tents we were charged extra for the size of our tent which I thought was a bit mean as I was quoted a price less. Also the site has no lighting making trips to the toilet in the middle of the night a bit hairy. Will re-visit though

We stayed here on the bank holiday weekend with my family - 3 children 12, 10 and 9 our dog a husband and myself. The weather on the way up was terrible but as we entered the campsite the sun came out to welcome us.
We received a lovely welcome and were given a map of the campsite and told where we should pitch our tent. We were put on a astroturf pitch which was fabulous, considering the ground was soaked, the astroturf was a god send.
The site is simply beautiful, clean, tidy and well thought out.
The children all loved the play areas and soon made friends.
The first 2 nights everyone was quiet as asked at 22:00 but unfortunately another tent ruined the silence on the last night, but must have been told to shut up after a while as around 23:30 they suddenly went quiet.
Osmotherley is beautiful, it took us 10 minutes to walk, and all 3 pubs are family and dog friendly and all do good food and good real ales. We felt welcome in all 3 pubs and even the children were happy sitting in for a while.
The campsite do breakfasts and take aways in the youth hostel, which is a part of the site, we tried both and were really very good for a break from cooking.
Over all this site is really very good, everything you can ask for of a relaxing family get away we only wish we could have stayed longer, but we will be back!
Thank you for a fabulous stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights last weekend. Reception and the staff were helpful and pleasant, You are given a key code for the barrier and toilet blocks,
We had booked astro turf which was great need to use spike pegs noticed they allowed caravans and motor homes on these which was a shame as ideally thought they should just be for tents so the astro turf stays protected and doesn't end up with wheel marks on.
The site is very spacious, plenty of room between pitches. The play area is fantastic with slides and swings in sand.
The Toilet blocks are spotless clean with underfloor heating n the showers. To say it rained extremely heavy Friday night and Saturday there was no mud in the toilets or showers.
A pot wash is bases outside with 3 sinks and is under a canopy.
There are 2 facilities blocks 1 with a bathroom didn't use and laundry area. Paid 5. 00 for late departure which meant the tent came back dry and fitted another walk in.
Plenty of great walks from the site and 10 mins walk into osmotherley. Will defo be back and will recommend to others.

We have just returned from this site from our second visit. We will definitely be going back again (and again!)
Our first visit was for a week just before Easter when the weather was less than helpful. It snowed daily, temperatures fell (once to -8!) at night and there were all sorts of problems with freezing water etc. The site is so lovely that we couldn't wait to go back to enjoy it in better weather. We managed a weekend stay (19/20 April) and it lived up to our expectations. Some spring sunshine makes a huge difference! The site is coming into bloom with lovely natural flowers and buds everywhere - it's a very pretty site.
The wardens are so friendly, helpful and welcoming. The site is immaculately clean and the facilities well designed. Pitches are mostly level and spacious. The site layout is great; children and family units are located centrally near the play parks and facilities, adults who want a bit more peace and quiet can pitch around the edge of the site - but all this is managed in a natural way so you don't feel too 'structured'.
On some mixed static/touring sites I have sometimes felt that tourers are intruders but this site has such a welcoming feel about it, and statics are at one end of the site so the mix is well managed.
There are a few hills/inclines on/around this site which gave us some of the exercise we wanted - but you might want to take this into account if walking up gradients really is a problem.
The location is perfect - a 10/15 minute walk to Osmotherly village, and lovely walks around Cod Beck or to Mount Grace Priory nearby. We ate in all three pubs in Osmotherley during our first week there (Queen Katherine, Three Tuns and the Golden Lion) and all were thoroughly enjoyable. We also managed a few pieces of delicious coffee and walnut cake in the 'Boot & Coffee' shop where service is warm and friendly, and they serve good coffee too.
Roll on our next visit - we can't wait to go back!

Just spent the the last 3 days at Cote Ghyll, must say its a lovely little site, nice quiet setting in the valley, good play areas for the kids. Excellent shower/toilet blocks with underfloor heating (makes a whole lot of difference) really was a great site,
Only downside is night time lighting around the campsite. If a small number of low level lighting be placed around the campsite (for those nocturnal toilet trips) this would get 5.5 stars from me. The staff were very welcoming and most helpful.
Osmotherly village is beautiful, chip shop, newsagents and village shop plus local pubs (Queen Catherine Hotel especially)
All in all, I would recommend this site any time of the year.

I used to visit this site a lot as a child and must say I still love it now. The toilet facilities are spotless and pitches are spacious. We didn't need to travel anywhere in the car as you can start most walks from the site and the village is a 10 min walk away. The shop/reception is very small but has everything you would need.
The only tip I would give to campers is to bring rock pegs as all of our pegs are now bent. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Went to cote ghyll for a camping break we just went for 1 day/night to see how it was but will definitely be going again,
We were on a basic tent pitch which was ok, bit hard to put the tent pegs in ground with the astro turf, but I'd rather that than be on boggy grass,
The whole campsite was clean and tidy and everyone stuck to the quiet after 10pm rule too,
The toilets and showers are well maintained and the reception/shop is very handy with very polite staff,
We had 2 of our daughters with us age 9 and 2 and they didn't get bored one bit, they were off in the play park where they made friends. The campsite is also very safe to let your children roam free.
We didn't go to many surrounding areas apart from the sheepwash where the kids had fun playing in the water
Overall this campsite gets a 10/10 from us and have already got family and friends interested in going.

A good clean very friendly site indeed, in this part of Yorkshire there isnt much to do with kids, there is a small park on site and the stream which runs through the site seems to keep the kids amused for a bit.
The shower block were clean and cleaned late at night, even the shower cubicles had a space to lay your clothes before entering the shower itself, so they don't get wet whilst showering.
Small shop on site which sells most things.
The only problem is the road into the village and camp site, which is 2 small.
Residents park there cars on 1 side and there is only 1 space left to get oncoming traffic and caravans through, which can be a bit hairy.
I didn't see a dog walking area on site as well.
But I would go back as its worth it

Nice site - easy to get to and plenty of road space (I see one review says it was narrow - they have obviously never been to Devon!)
The good stuff has already been said - loos always clean, although usual busy problems at peak time, and not sure why they needed codes other than to make you memorise it quickly or suffer a walk back to your pitch! Great play areas (our two loved this), and nice walk to and around the reservoir etc.
Note there is no O2 or Orange signal on site, although you might get intermittent Vodafone. This might force you to require the site Wifi (for a fee). It has a good signal but is dead slow, so don't expect to upload pics or use iplayer as it wont work, but great for checking weather and emails (average down=550kbps, up=80kbps)
The walk to Osmotherly with young kids is 30 minutes. No way you can do it in 10 unless you run!
Plenty of butchers/bakers and a greengrocer in Northallerton - parking is a challenge (find pay and display behind Morrisons for ease) else you need a 'disk' on the high street which is top secret to visitors.
Also went to Preston park (other side of Yarm) - just reopened with new and free to visit play park. House/museum was only £4 for family - wow! But take a picnic as play area 'cafe' was terrible. But I think there are plans to open chippy in victorian street in museum.
Would visit again if in area just to remain on site and walks, but for things to do you do have to travel a bit.

Had a great weekend here. This is an excellent site with 1st class facilities, 2 toilet and shower blocks 1 larger than the other with laundry. We were 2 adults with. 5 year old. She played all the time at the play area which had a small stream running through where the kids loved to play.
This site is close to the A19 and handy to travel to Thirsk, York or up to Teesside.
Nice local walks in to the forest and up to the reservoir and about 20 minutes to the village.
We will be going back to this site again for a longer stay.
