We have just returned from a four night stay at this lovely campsite. As we went mid October the site itself was very quiet. Everything from the site to the toilets / showers were very well maintained and clean. We used the family bathroom each night as the kids enjoy their bath. Our pitch was on a slight slope. Will be paying more attention the next time we go camping as a slope in your tent is no good for sleeping / drinks on your table etc.
The village of Osmotherley was a short and pleasant walk. We managed to sample a few of the local ales but did not eat in any of the pubs.
We spent a day in York which was well worth the 45min car journey. There is plenty to see and do in this beautiful city.
Overall, we had a great four day autumn camping trip away at this fab site and would love to return again.

Spent at week at this site, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, a beautiful site, loads of different areas to camp in, secluded, wooded, child friendly, we pitched near the children's play area next to the babbling stream. The site was clean, well maintained and very secure - with your own code to gain entry to the site. Both Washing facilities and showers were good. Osmotherly is a 10-15 minute easy walk, with 3 good pubs, post office/shop, fish & chips etc. The pub next to the fish & chip shop has the best home-made grub. There are lots of lovely walks in and around the site however there is a fantastic reservoir just a short walk from the site, we took out nets / rods / picnics and books and had a fantastic time. Overall we would have no hesitation what so ever in returning to this site.

We stayed here for just one night in July and were really impressed by the site. It was well maintained and the the showering / toilet facilities were very good. In fact the tiles etc were better than my own at home! It is a nice quiet site with an away from it all feel even though it is close to the A1.
Osmotherley is probably half a mile walk down hill. We didn't try it with a two year old but if we were on our own a few drinks in the local pub would have been good. The local chippy was a disappointment with a very limited choice and a 25 minute wait for fish and chips! The food itself was fine though once we got it.
There is a very little play area at the site. The weekend we went there had been a lot of rain so the sandpit was flooded but otherwise it was a good point for the kids to meet friends. That said despite there being quite a few children about it was really really quiet.
In all, this site is not the cheapest but when you see the shower rooms etc at least you can see where the money is going.
I'm keen to go back but next time without the kids so I can try out the local beer and the nice looking restaurant at the bottom of the hill!

Sunday lunchtime we arrived at Cote Ghyll in Osmotherley. After a bit of a mix up with our booking, the nice lady in reception arranged a different pitch for us, and said if there were any problems with it to let her know and she would sort something else out for us. We had a map of the site, so toddled of to find our pitch. It was on a slight slope, but we managed to arrange the footprint on the best part of the pitch. Tent went up very well, for our 2nd time pitching. We decided to stay on this pitch and not to bother moving about.
We had a wander round the site, and what a beautiful laid out site is it. The site itself is laid out in rough sections, family, quiet area, static area. We were pitched over the stream that had 3 areas, EHU on grass (which was us) EHU on had standing, and tents with no EHU.
The whole site is terraced, so it didn’t look like it was full, but all the pitches seemed to be taken.
Lovely play area for the kids, and the stream is fantastic to play in, my 3 kids and nephew were in there every day. 2 lots of toilet / shower blocks, wash up areas, all of which were totally immaculate, family bathroom, which was a godsend as my 6 year old is not to keen on showers. Even did a bit of washing in the laundry – much needed after a day in the stream.
Cote Ghyll is a fantastic site, very friendly and well run, the warden always seemed busy, and nothing is too much trouble for them. If there is one thing that could be added the future, which would make the site ever better than it already is, this would be a small toilet block over the stream. It feels like a long walk in the middle of the night when the kids have to go!

Excellent site ! Lovely and clean, and excellent facilities. The staff are very helpful and friendly. A lovely walk into Osmotherley village and through the forest up to Cod Beck reservoir. Had a lovely week and fell lucky with the weather. The village has three nice friendly pubs, we enjoyed our evening strolls to have a meal and a drink. The site has a children's play park and shop, and is only 7 miles from North Allerton. We will certainly be returning to this site.

Excellent site, the toilet blocks were some of the best we had seen on a site but like other reviewers we found the new shower block the nicest and chose to use that one more than the older block. There were no views from our pitch but we did not mind as the site was so nice anyway.
Staff are really helpful and everywhere is clean and tidy.
Other reviews have mentioned the 10pm no noise rule being ignored, however we returned to the site around 11pm most evenings and never heard any noise.
Osmotherly itself is lovely although there is only really one 'proper' pub, the others are more established as eating places but you are welcome to just pop in for a drink.
Overall a great site in a good location. I've already recommended it to friends and family.

Stayed only 1 night, had driven around for miles the night before and couldn't get on a site anywhere as all sites were fully booked (new to camping and never dreamt a site would get full.Doh,lol) This site was our first experience of camping,(just me and the mrs) I'm thinking we were spoilt, and it will take some matching. Showers/toilets spotless, all facilities 1st class. Staff friendly and pub the Queen Catherine was great, landlord let us stay till after midnight (big mistake as the following morning I paid with my head) I will always pre-book before we leave in future, would have loved to stay longer so will be returning soon.

Just got back from a wonderful 10 days at cote ghyll, the weather was mainly fine and dry although it had rained before we got there, the pitch was very damp and on a slope. But we managed to pitch ok! The site is clean and well looked after, the facilities are very good plenty of hot water and never too busy.
The village of Osmotherly is a short walk away although up quite a steep slope it is well worth a visit. We ate at the Queen Catherine pub and found the food very good and quite reasonably priced. There is plenty to do in the area The Forbidden Corner went down very well with all 4 kids (16, 13, 10, 7).
The stream running through the site kept the kids happy, make sure to take some old clothes! The staff where very helpful and kept the noise down while we where there. At the end of our 10 days we all agreed we wished we had booked for the full 2 weeks!

We chose this site at short notice and decided to get away from it all. The site is located within 30 minutes of the A1 making it very easy to reach. The toilet facilities are good (we are used to Caravan Club Sites) so we were not disappointed. It is worth noting that the new block is very good, although the older toilet and shower block serves it purpose.
We arrived on a very wet August morning in the pooring rain. It did not take us long to get set up and our two young children were looking forward to exploring the local area. It is worth noting that you may need to take extra 'blocks' for your caravan to get it even. The site is very sloping, even on our hard standing pitch. Our neighbour said they had real trouble siting their van. (Motor movers a real benefit here if your not too good reversing).
The site was very clean and there was often people from the site cleaning the facilities and making sure the site was well cared for. The children's play area was small and not suitable for the very young children. It is also worth noting that the site has a great number of seasonal pitches and many of the pitshes with the better views and positions are taken. I would estimate that around 40% of the pitches are taken up with seasonal caravans including some statics locates at the top end of the site. We had asked not to be located in the middle of the site but we were. Our other neighbours (seasonal pitch holders) were noisy and the music started at around 6pm and continued past 11pm each night. The signs stating that 'quiet after 10pm' were not enforced. This was in our opinion a big let down as with two young children it did mean getting them settled was difficult. The children's play area was very 'active' even after 9pm and this again did spoil the overall experience of the site. We know it was the summer holidays and don't expect to go to a site with complete piece and quiet as we also have children, but after 10pm at night we did not think it was too much to ask for at least the adults to keep it to an acceptable level.
Overall a good site with excellent wash room facilities. The site needs to make it clear that the pitches are sloping and just give us occasional visitors a better choice of pitch, especially if we ask for a quieter area. The web site needs to make it clear how it is laid out but a good setting with a great place to explore the coast and dales. ( Just watch the exit, it is a little tight when you leave!)

Went to Cote Ghyll 1st August and 'sadly' departed 5th August 2009.
All you will get from this review is a fantastic glowing report. So read on!
I had trawled all of my camping books and websites for somewhere that was going to suit 4 adults and (8) YES! (8) children from the ages of 3 upto 14!
And this was the place for us!
Arrived in the rain to a very pleasant and helpful owner in reception, even telling us the forcast for the following days weather!
Pitched two tents in 50 and 51, under trees right next to the park.
It was very wet and soggy as the previous occupant had a campervan and the tyre marks and puddles were still there.Rain was on and off so we worked as quick as possible!
The first night we had a BBQ in heavy rain (put a tarp up on poles) in between our tents.
Asked the owner the next day (sunday) if there was anywhere to purchase groundsheets as the ground was soggy and slushed with mud!
He gave us some of his own and would not hear of us purchasing any! WHAT A STAR!
Facilities:
The showers & toilets are fantastic & free!, under floor heating, the cleanest I have ever seen (flowers a lovely touch), Boot and coat drying at in the laundry room, inexpensive washing and drying of clothes (20p 5mins drying and £2.00 for a full load of washing), a park for the children, little shop which was lovely friendly and helpful staff, there is a family bathroom also (we did not use this as the children were happy with the showers).
Staff:
The warden we spoke to is a lovely man, stop and chat with him.Just to let you know he can BBQ in the rain with us anytime!
Osmotherly: is a 5/10 minute walk with a few lovely pubs, very friedly staff and the walking shop is fantastic too.We purchased a couple of items from there and were very pleased with the quality and cost.
Other places:
There are lots of other places to visit, Thirsk, Hutton Le Hole and Helmsley are just a few that we went to and would recommend.
Thirsk market (mondays)has the best veg & cheese stalls in North Yorkshire!
