We (myself, wife and 7 month old boy) stopped at Red Shoot over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend from Friday through to Monday.
We arrived a little later than planned but still with plenty of daylight. Checking in at the reception was simple, speedy and within a few minutes we were being shown to our pitch. The staff were friendly and courteous at all times both during the check in and over the weekend.
The site is set deep in the New Forest but readily accessible from the M27 or A31. The pitches are all located behind the Red Shoot pub and Micro Brewery. During our stay we had great weather so I couldn't comment on drainage however the ground was nice and dry while we were there.
I must say the despite some comments of this site being expensive I am inclined to think it is entirely worth it. The shower and toilet facilities were excellent, both modern and well maintained.
There is also a disabled toilet and shower as well as a well appointed family room - A Baby bath is also available from reception. The shower and toilet block has a heated floor which I think is a great idea and despite it being a busy weekend not once did we have to wait for a shower and nor did it run out of hot water.
The on site shop has most emergency items and some others, it is a little expensive but this is to be expected in view of the convenience. There are play park facilities for children which looked quite good but we didn't use them.
The site lends itself to walking and cycling around the local area, having the baby limited us a little in that respect but we did manage a walk to a nearby pub and back which is about 2 miles each way.
On Friday night we ate in the Red Shoot pub and had a couple of drinks all of which was very nice and reasonably priced. It seemed very popular.
The pub advertises live music on a Sunday night. We could faintly hear the music in our tent but it wasn't at all obtrusive and actually we really wanted to be in there enjoying it. I think the pub hosts various events throughout the year.
Overall a great site with a great atmosphere and friendly people which we will definitely use again, hopefully with some friends next time.
If I was to be really picky I could suggest that WiFi be available and included in the pitch cost. Mobile telephone signal is patchy at best (Vodafone & O2)

I came across this campsite by accident, after browsing the web for sites that had a minimum stay of one night, allowing me to test-drive my 3 year old boy's enjoyment of the great outdoors. The staff at this site were more than happy for us to drop by for just the one night, unlike many other sites I called.
The best thing about Red Shoot was the atmosphere that struck us as we entered and pitched our tent. It is definitely a family-orientated environment, as this was evident in a number of different areas.
Firstly, we were directed to a family showering room, where there was space for me to accompany my son while he showered. This, along with the toilets and main shower block, was clean and modern.
Secondly, we were given an option about where to pitch, allowing me to select an area adjacent to where my son could play safely. The layout of the campsite was such that he could play safely virtually anywhere.
And thirdly, the location was breathtaking. We awoke early in the morning and were able to take a walk at 7am before breakfast, through the forest which was on our doorstep, amongst the ponies and other wild animals. And when we were tired of walking with the animals, we returned to the campsite and played in the small play area they have on-site.
The only thing I would change about this campsite is to ask them to display the shop's opening hours somewhere - we needed milk for our breakfast and were ready for it at 7, as aforementioned, and had to keep returning to the shop only to be disappointed each time until the 9am opening-time came. We could have done something more productive with our time then.
Overall, this is one of the best campsites I have visited (and I have been to many), so I would highly recommend it to others who want a quiet, relaxing time with their young families.

We have just got ourselves a great deal of camping equipment, and took it for a test run at the Red Shoot camping site in the New Forest.
The site is situated down a few miles of narrow country roads and was a superb drive in.
The campsite is situated just behind the Red Shoot pub. The drinks and food prices inside are very respectable for such a lovely pub.
The campsite itself is very clean and well maintained. There is a shop located next to reception in case you need any basic groceries or camping equipment.
The toilets and shower facilities are also very good and extremely clean.
We paid £15 for the night, not the cheapest campsite in the area, but well worth the few extra pounds as it has all the facilities you need plus is clean and well maintained.
My only slight grip is the welcome we got was a little frosty, a smile might have been a better greeting, but apart from that a great stay and will be retuning this weekend for 2 nights.

This is a lovely little campsite perfectly situated for exploring the New Forest and South coast.
The manager/owners were very helpful and welcoming, and were very conscious of maintaining a pleasant atmosphere on site by diplomatically enforcing the site rules.
The facilities were excellent, loads of showers and toilets and ample washing up sinks. That said my wife and daughter had to queue a number of times, but it seemed more due to groups of teenage girls hogging the facilities for extended periods.
The pub is great, good beer and great food.
My only criticism would be that the pitches were a bit small, we felt quite hemmed in at times.

Have been to this site now on two occasions, first visit was great with friendly staff. Useful Pub right next door makes it easy to stubble back to your pitch! The site is close to some other pubs within a 20 minute walking distance. As you can expect with any New Forest site don't forget anything as there are no amenities or shops near this site. Great if you like the isolation and suited us fine. Second visit didn't get the same friendly atmosphere from the staff. Still a great location and the toilets get much demand when the site is full. Let your little ones know they need to go early! Slightly on the expensive side for your pitches, but it is the New Forest.

A great site with the beautiful forest right on the door step. Even though we had some heavy rain, the ground seemed to drain well, the whole site is on a slight slope.
The staff seemed friendly enough. The toilets and showers are modern and kept clean throughout the day. The showers were hot but not as hot as I would like, but that is personal choice. The showers are the annoying push button type and they seemed to soak the dry changing area of the cubicle.
There is a small shop on site which was low on stock but I assume that is because the site closed a couple of days after we left. The pub right next to the site was good with log fires, real ales brewed on site and reasonable food. It does get busy with families early evening but you can book a table.
The site has good access to the forest for walkers and cyclist, with all the New Forest animals walking right outside the site gates.
The only problem we had was a few times the whole campsite electrics tripped, but they were quickly reset.
Would I go back, without a doubt, great campsite for walking, cycling and enjoying the New Forest.

This is our second stay at this site within the last year. The area has incredible natural beauty and this site is right in the middle of it. The nearest town/village is Ringwood which is a few miles away.
The site itself is very nice, but not perfect. On arrival this year we were shown to a pitch where the ground was 'domed' and covered in large flints. I of course complained and was shown to a pitch more suitable for a tent. The staff are friendly and helpful.
The field is not flat with a slight decline. This wasn't a problem for my wife and I, but our young children kept rolling off their beds!
The office block has been renewed since last year and now incorporates the shop. The toilet and shower block is modern and cleaned every day. We found it better to shower after the lunch time clean as the floors do tend to get muddy by morning. The showers are a bit temperamental with the water pressure dropping, depending on how many people were showering at the same time. There was never a lack of hot water and I never had to queue. There's a disabled toilet on site which is used by everyone when cleaning is in process.
There's a waste water and a chemical toilet disposal point as well as an undercover washing up area. We found that on occasions we had to queue but was never a big problem.
There is a laundry room on site, but we never had cause to use it.
The shop was fine for basic items, but was obviously far more expensive than the local superstores.
We've found this site to be very family orientated and everyone is very friendly. Unfortunately we did find reason to complain about one group who talked, sang and laughed until the early hours on two nights running. The site rule is no noise after 10.30pm and following our complaint, weren't disturbed again.
This is not a cheap site to visit costing me, my wife and three young children £249.20 to stay for seven nights(including electric hookup). I'd say that the site alone is not worth this expense, but with all the surrounding scenery it is.

First time here for a 7 night stay, everything you need for a base camp. The staff were very friendly and the site is very clean and trim. The on site shop was well stocked with all necessities.
The toilet/shower block was cleaned around lunchtime every day although another toilet block nearer the bottom of the site would possibly be advantageous. My kids found the play area to be ok.
Nicely located site and being just at the edge of the forest it was easy to get around, went for a few evening walks and saw deer just strolling around in front of us.
Didn't get the chance to use the on site pub but no noise was heard. All in all a very good site although peak times a lttle pricey.

We are two adults and two children (8 and 5) and have just experienced our first camping holiday together and I have to say it was brilliant! Red Shoot had a lot to prove because it could have been the start or the end of our camping days.
We initially picked it because there were very few campsites that would take our large 8 man tunnel tent, they did and there were lots of large tents there.
I found the toilets, showers and washing up area adequate, and the campsite very calming and definitely family orientated. My only gripe was that we had a very stony pitch which made a couple of holes in our brand new tent, other pitches seemed to be fine!
I would recommend this site for families who like the beauty of the new forest for walks but like the idea of the seaside on their doorstep if they want it.
