Just spent 5 days here during October half term. Overall it was a nice site, quiet in the evening, clean loos and showers, helpful wardens, and a really great location. The pub next door was great too - dogs were welcome and the food & beer were good. A couple of negatives though - the showers were the push button ones, which lasted about 30 seconds, and the site was on a bit of a slope and you really need the wedges. It had rained before we got there and we kept sinking in one corner, so drainage not that great. The lighting around the site was almost non-existent - which made it tricky to fill up the water tank at night, and the biggest gripe of all was that the waste water disposal was waist height, so you had to hoist the full container up and on to it - impossible for me. It had a small playground for the kids, but this was right near the entrance and pub car park, so didn't feel that safe.

Our second visit to this site, both on a bank holiday.
The site is clean and the people who run it very friendly, we only stayed for one night as we passed through. The pub allows dogs and does nice pub meals.
You do expect on a bank holiday to have some bustle and noise from children and this site is no exception.
It is a child friendly site, so if you are after the quieter - no children site, this probably isnt for you.
However come 10.30pm the noise was silent.
An ideal location for the New forest, but take on board if your going during school holidays this site is very popular with families
I found it quite expensive, but then we were only there for one night and over a bank holiday it seems it was around the right price for the area and in line with the others

We loved this site and were disappointed to come home after only a week and could have easily stayed for two.
We travelled as a family of 2 adults, a 3 year old and our 6 months old daughter. We also had friends with us in a tent and some others in a caravan, we all loved it.
The site is mainly a huge field with the reception, a small shop, kids play area with sand pit and the amenities block.
We arrived and were shown to our pitch.
They enforce their rules such as how and where to pitch and we saw them asking some people to move their tents as they were trying to pitch them in a circle instead of next to each other which is how the pitches were laid out. The same group also had their dogs off leads which they had to keep telling them was not acceptable.
The ladies shower block is spotless and warm, the only issue I had was that there is no curtain between the shower and where you put your towels, clothes etc and as the shower is powerful everything gets soaked if you don’t keep it covered. There are also no privacy cubicles for brushing your teeth and washing your face which was a shame but there are plenty of other sinks.
My husband and the two other men in the group said the men’s was a stinky though, the stench that came from the urinals was overpowering at times.
We arrived early on a Thursday and the site was pretty empty but by Friday night it was PACKED! Every last inch of space was used up and there really isn’t a lot of room for each pitch. We had to move our chairs over closer to our unit as someone was pitching next to us and the space really is tight. We were getting a bit pi**ed off about it but to be honest, once everyone was settled it wasn’t that bad and everyone was really friendly. By Sunday afternoon the site was practically empty again. I wouldn’t want to spend a week packed in like that though so would avoid the kids holidays or asked to be pitched on the perimeter and not in the middle of the main field.
The family room is useful but again there is no shower curtain in there so you have to push the shower button for your kids and jump back so as not to get wet through. You have to roll your trousers up though as the floor gets SOAKED!
There is a baby bath you can borrow from reception which is great but you have to fill it by holding it under the shower head, right under as otherwise you get drenched and then it gets heavy when it gets full so I had to balance it on my head, quite a sight!
The site is located in the heart of the forest which is beautiful. The shop is handy for basic items and the Red Shoot pub is lovely and serves nice food.
There is a 10.30pm noise curfew that everyone adhered to. On the Saturday they had live music which was quite loud but it didn’t bother us and our kids are so whacked when camping they slept through it no problem. I’m quite a light sleeper and it didn’t bother me. It finished by 11.15 and peace was restored. Every other night was total peace by 11pm.
There is a lot to do in the area, High Cliff beach is gorgeous and it looked like we were abroad in our snaps on the beach!
We would definitely return to this site, it is our idea of a great site, beautiful location, peace and quiet, spotless amenities.

Red Shoot is a busy site on the fringe of the New Forest. It is next to a traditional pub with it's own micro brewery that serves yummy food & has live music (not too loud) at weekends. Need I say more than that?
It is a large site, with pitches crammed in. We opted for EHU which greatly limits choice. We were told that we needed a breathable groundsheet. Pity the previous occupants had not been told. Very few pitches had any topsoil let alone grass. We opted for a patch of broken flints. Our 20 Metre cable only just reached the electrical bollard. There is a small play area, but no space for children to run about, though there is open space off site near the pub. The toilets are newly refurbished, but very cramped & there are not enough toilets or showers. It is one of the few gents toilets I have queued outside for a go at the urinal. There is nowhere to keep clothes or shoes dry whilst getting showered - bring crocs!
The location is good, close to major roads, yet with a very rural feeling. Wild horses, goats & donkeys are all over the place. 30 mph speed limit all over. Many miles of path for walking, horse riding or cycling.
The shop is very well stocked with fresh food & useful camping items. The grounds though, were in a very poor state when we were there. Luckily it was dry. In wet weather, this place would be a mud bath. No effort was being made by anyone to try to encourage any grass to recover. This was a shame, as the site could have been superb had the number of pitches been even slightly reduced.

This was my second visit to the Red Shoot having first visited in 1994. On arrival we got a guided tour to the pitch from one of the owners who was very friendly and helpful. Our pitch was on the bottom field, and looked to be about the best location. Some of the tents in the middle field looked a bit crammed in, but we had a nice sized pitch for our large tent.
The layout of the site is almost the same from what I can remember from my first visit, and facilities whilst good before, are now excellent. The toilets are great, and the family shower room helped with the morning routine. There are, of course, no baths, but there is a baby bath available if you need it. Our youngest was too big for it so had to be forced into the shower instead - you may have heard the screams!
The shop stocked a good range of food, drink and accessories, and although not cheap, we didn't think the prices were too bad for a small camp shop. Next to the shop is the playground which looked to be good fun, and next to that is a huge sandpit which the kids loved most of all. It could do with a bit more sand in it though.
The pub is first rate - the food gorgeous, and the home brewed beer is very nice. We came back from a walk in the rain to a pint of real ale, and sausage and mash - it doesn't get much better than that!
I can't really fault the Red Shoot overall - it is perhaps lacking a little character and charm, but everything else is just how you would want it - clean and functional.

On arrival It has a good feel about the site, staff are very helpful in telling you all you need to know about the site and surrounding area. The toilets, showers, shop and Pub Food were all excellent. Children's play area looked newish and was always well used. Its a great place if you like walking as you can walk for miles in natural surroundings with plenty of wildlife on the doorstep. We struggled to get the car caravan and awning in the space we had but once the tents around us left we had a little more room for the rest of the week. We left for a day out on Friday and on return we just about got the car on the pitch by poaching our neighbours area but at the front of the caravan we had a tent approx 4 feet away which blocked any view we had and the guy ropes come within a foot or 2 of the front of our van not what I call a safe distance. This site is great for tents but there is not enough space for caravans.

I agree with many of the comments I've seen and the site is in a good spot.
The pub is very good - the Fosters and the food were exceptional.
We were lucky being put in the far corner because the site was very full and in my opinion units were crammed in to every possible bit of space which would have spoiled our holiday had we been allocated anywhere else.
I would not go back in the school holidays, maybe ok in June/Sept. And it was expensive.

Just returned from the Red Shoot in the New Forest. The site on the whole is very nice. Good location to visit the surrounding areas. Portsmouth has a great shopping area at Gunn Wharf and legoland is only 1hr 20 up the road. The kids found the animals very pleasing and dad found the pub had a good selection of ales and ciders the food was fabulous. The toilets and shower areas was very clean and tidy. The only negative point was that it was very crowded and at about £35 pounds a night a little on the expensive side.

What a lovely site. Showers and toilets spotless, shop open long hours, pub at the entrance serves great food, not cheap but very nice. Owners helpful, wildlife on your doorstep, fantastic bands play at the Red Shoot Pub, great for visiting all areas of the new forest want to go back now!
Be Careful which road you go off the main ringwood road, we took Ivy Lane, dont do it, it was wide enough only for our caravan and we met loads of traffic on the way it was a nightmare.
Once you have visited you will want to go back, and don't forget the chocks depending on what pitch you get. Enjoy this site it is amazing.
There was a play area for children but we can not comment on this as we had no children with us.
No club room etc. Just relax

Fab campsite - have been there a number of times before - on recommendation from my parents who went there regularly 35 years ago!
Little expensive - £24 per night - amenities are very clean and modern. Hot water is free
Location wise - couldn't get better - in the middle of the forest, right next to a pub!
The pub is also a microbrewery and has a selection of delicious beers. The food is also very good
The downsides - not many.
As stated before - it is rather pricey
The pub also has regular live music - which is great when you are just a couple but when you have a young child(ren) with you too - trying to get them to go asleep, whilst 'dad rock' is blasting around the site until 11 isn't the easiest.
That said though. When the music did down, the site is very quiet (plus it was pretty good music too!)
Shop on site is perfectly adequate - not too expensive.Though could open a little earlier I think. 9am is a little late to get milk etc.
Good kids play area on site too.
Office has jump leads etc to loan (which I needed)
I will keep coming back to this one!
