Quite an attractive site. Excellent, clean & modern toilets/showers. Good shop but only went there for milk. Brilliant location for walks etc. Pub on doorstep with its own brewery - big plus. The pub itself (intrinsic to campsite) a bit soulless. Campsite & pub staff friendly. Can't complain, although it wasn't cheap.

We've just returned from a really lovely weekend at the Red Shoot camping park. Its's so hard to tell when you are looking up campsites what they will be like and I found this website and the reviews really useful.
The campsite itself is lovely, in a beautiful location in the New Forest, with a great pub onsite. The shower facilities were really warm, a great thing considering the time of year we went and the storms that hit us. There's even a plug socket in there so instead of using your 20p's to use the hair dryer thats there, if you're not packing lightly you could take your own.
Our pitch was quite muddy, but I think thats to be expected when you camp in March in the rain.
The staff were really friendly, helpful and we will definitely be going there again.

This site is very pleasant, well maintained, clean and ideally situated in the New Forest with excellent facilities including a shop and a pub next door; I have stayed here before and had a great time. That's the good bit.
However, I have a major objection to being charged £24.00 - the same charges as for staying in the high season - on the Thursday before Easter, a typical wet and windy night in March and not even a proper school holiday because of Easter being so early this year. The site was not very full and I reckon the owner(s) just used the word 'Easter' as an excuse to hike up the price; a couple of extra pounds might have just about been excusable but to charge a whole £9 extra on top of the standard rate of £15 was just blatant greed! We did stay because we were tired after a long journey up from Devon but I made it clear to the staff that I was not impressed.
I've decided not to use the site again in protest unless a realistic tariff is set, but sadly suspect I will not be going back. Excuse the pun but I feel Red Shoot have 'shot' themselves in the foot! I had envisaged many further visits in the future.

Having been camping for over 10 years, and owning our 1st caravan, we decided not to travel too far from home on our initial trip out with the caravan. With the New Forest only being down the road from where we live (well half hour drive down the road). The site was really lovely and not overcrowded, though the time of year we went we expected that. Being at the end of the season, the shop was still stocked adequately for our needs, and with a little Tesco express 3 miles down the road, we were never too far from our food supplies anyway. Water points were plenty, and there were bricks supplied if you chose to bar-b-q. The toilet / shower block was kept inspickably clean, although it was shut for cleaning between 11 and 12.30, (so campers if you needed the lavatory, you would have had to time it right) The block had underfloor heating which was a welcome for bare feet when taking a shower. Being a smallish site people mingled more, and from what we experienced, all children got on really well, so it was such a restful break for all concerned. The ruling of 'Strictly Quiet after 10.30 was adhered to by all whilst we stayed (with no problems.) We had lunch at the Red Shoot Inn midweek, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all in my family. We took our dog with us, and we have to say that as regular visitors to the New Forest, you have so many pleasant walks to choose from, with wonderful nature to observe. Majority of pubs in the New Forest welcome dogs, so that is good to note, if you are taking your dog(s). We will definatly be coming back again.

Just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Red Shoot. On arrival and throughout stay, staff were very friendly. Shower block large, clean and warm. Plenty of space when we were there.
Location superb for walks/cycling/drinking/eating(in no particular order!). Red Shoot Inn was heaven, as I am a real ale lover. Atmosphere very relaxed, although noise from radios and children later in the evening was a little irritating (we have two children ourselves, but there are limits!) Otherwise, we will definitely be returning. P.S be wary of the circular walk book sold in the shop, particularly when attempting the 10 mile walk in the local area-the instructions are almost impossible to follow!

This was our 3rd visit to Red Shoot and were looking forward to some good cycling around the forest, and relaxing evenings on the site. Having a good pub in walking distance is a great plus as well.
Although we were disappointed in not getting the pitch we had requested, where we ended up was probably the best pitch - avoiding much of the mud following 24hours of none stop rain.
The location of this site, within the forest, and it's peace and quiet are major plus points. Unfortunately our visit this year was not so plesant. I know August is going to be a busy month, but tents were packed in tight, again our pitch was probably one of the best, out on the perimeter of the site rather than the middle. This also isn't a good site for bored teenagers -trying to block the toilets and verbal abuse are not acceptable behaviour as far as I am concerned.
I have one more negative point to make, and thats dogs. I don't have a problem with dogs being on sites, as long as they are kept under control, and owners take responsibility in clearing up after them. There are signs in every toilet cubicle asking owners to keep dogs on a lead. Of course there is a problem enforcing this when the site dog roams freely, meaning regular checks around the tent for any poo!

As you go through the gate you can see the majority of the campsite and this helps to orientate yourself much quicker. There is some protection from trees situated all round the perimeter of the campsite and there is a reasonable slope to ensure that drainage is not a problem. The welcome was friendly and we were shown to the pitch.
I found the pitch technique in the middle of the site a little confusing at first. A numbered disc embedded in the ground, being the centre of you pitch. After you get used to it, it’s actually quite good, though the more territorial camper may find the incursions onto their pitch a little frustrating. They would be best with pitches on the perimeter. Everyone seemed friendly and to say good morning, a smile through the day and an offer of assistance, if you looked as if you needed it.
The facilities were exceptionally clean and all the staff were helpful when you approached them. It looked as if it got a little bit busy in the showers at the popular times of the day, but for the size of the site there were enough showers and toilets. The on site shop seemed well enough stocked and prices, not much different to any other site shop. There were stores in the nearby villages a pleasant 15 minute drive away. The pub at the site entrance was nice and seemed to add some benefit, rather than detract from the great surroundings.
There is a small play park for kids and the surrounding area offers great opportunity for walks, cycling and games. There seemed a reasonable mixture of campers, tents and caravans, with families, older couples and mixed groups. All in all, we had a good 4 days on a nice site, in a fantastic location.
I would never be happy unless I could complain about something, but they would not stop me from revisiting for a short break, some relate to the visitors and not the sites fault. Speed limit seemed to not apply to certain people. Dogs on site are fine, but the dogs are not smart enough to clean up after themselves. Kids on bikes may not be as dangerous as cars, but they can sure waste your weekend, if they run over a toddler.Take out a couple of pitches in the middle of the site and move the play-park, adding a few things for under 4s. Sort out the rubbish disposal and recycling.
Sorry would not like to put anyone off; it’s well worth a visit.

Just returned from a 3 night stay. The location is amazing; in the heart of the Forest yet within easy reach of nearby towns. Excellent cycling and hiking routes on your doorstep. The field is flat so easy to pitch a tent and there are plenty of water taps around. The brand new shower block is spotlessly clean and well maintained. Plenty of washing-up facilities. The shop is well-stocked, offers an ice-pack service and is reasonably priced - even the chilled wine! The staff are very friendly - we forgot our gas bottle and the staff loaned us a small stove for the duration of our stay. We did replace the cannister though! The Red Shoot Inn serves good food all day round and they have live bands playing occasionally. Will definitely return - just for the showers alone!

We didn't book this site when we went as part of a group. I realized that I should ring ahead and make sure that large tents weren't a problem, they said that it should be okay, but they were a bit abrupt on the phone, not a good start. This site is in a beautiful location however, and it's a lovely drive in from Ringwood the nearest town, a very neat rolling lane cutting through the New Forest with cattle and Ponies all around. When we arrived at the site we were dealt with by a very pleasant Aussie, I asked another chap a question and got a very abrupt answer, end of conversation. On the plus side it's a pleasant small site with clean decent showers, a small well stocked shop, a playground and the Red Shoot pub at the entrance to the site. On the negative side, the staff don't seem friendly, you have to pitch over the top of a hard patch of sand, you can't freeze your own packs, you have to rent ones from the site, and they have a strict 2230 silent curfew. I could understand a notice asking people to keep the noise down out of common courtesy after 2200, but silence meant that at 2230 you couldn't even have a conversation. Some members of our group got told off for doing a crossword, what nonsense. The New Forest is worth a trip, my only warning would be that once you are there the traffic is quite heavy.

Very pleasant stay. The park is in a beautiful area of the new forest. The Red Shoot Inn adjacent to the park was very popular and the meals they served looked fantastic although we didn't eat there. The site itself has a small shop and bike hire available and there is a small play area for kids. Dogs are welcome. The shower block was clean and well serviced, with plenty of cubicles, although there is only one block so it's a bit of a trek if you're on the far side of the park as we were. We were there August bank holiday weekend so obviously it was packed but I felt the pitches weren't especially large and were quite close together. On the downside they don't seem to enforce the rules very rigidly. Although the booking information clearly states no all male or all female parties there was a group of 3 or four men on the pitch opposite who woke up all their neighbours when they came back late at night and worse for wear!
