Just returned from a week at this site and found it fantastic. We had 2 pitches with electric hook up which were located beside the toilet / shower block (pitches 35 & 36). Pitch 35 was quite stony which didn't do any favours to the ground sheet of our tent and there was an annoying PIR floodlight on the shower block which shone directly in to our tent whenever anyone walked past ! Beside that we could not fault the site.
Toilet and shower facilities were superb, clean, and serviced daily at around 11.30am. Excellent washing up facilities also. Site shop a bit pricey but stocked pretty much everything from daily papers through to bottles of wine. The site rules are quiet from 10.30pm and pretty much everyone adheres to this. Those that were up later were sitting chatting quietly.

The Red Shoot Inn is no more than a 2 minute walk even if you are at the furthest point of the site and is very, very good. Food and service both excellent and we found the prices very reasonable too. Live music on a sunday evening which was good and a live outdoor duo with a hog roast on bank holiday monday !

Would recommend this site to anyone and will, at some point in the future be returning. Enjoy !

On our arrival we shown to our pitch. The welcome was warm and friendly. We were given advice about the shop and opening times and also info about the public house that is very close to the site. Felt that the shop was a little pricey but it is the only one for miles. The pub does great food and a variety of local beers and lagers. The price of a pint of Fosters was £3.20.

Scampi and chips was £8.95. The food is plentiful. The pub also allows dogs in the premise.

The site caters for all campers. The toilet/shower blocks were warm and very clean. The water was hot. My only compliant is that they use push button showers and if you don't time it right the shower goes off. There was one hairdryer in the block for all to use. It did rain whilst we there and it was heavy. The ground drained well.

This site is great for those wishing to use as a base for places such as Bournemouth / Poole etc. It is in the middle of the forest so walks are plentiful and breathtaking. There is nothing to do on the site. There is a small play area for children. There is a rule that at 10.30 every one is quiet and it is adhered to.

Have visited the Redshoot Camping Site several times over the last 20 years though the last time was May 2009. The site itself has very good facilities - there are ample toilets and showers that are regularly cleaned, there's a well stocked shop on site and there's a very good children's play area (more later).

The location is absolutely brilliant, it's in a very quiet area of the New Forest called Linwood. There's some good cycling and walking routes to be taken from here. The camp site is located behind the Redshoot Inn which serves good food and local beer. There's another pub not too far away so you're spoilt for choice.

The site is well cared for, has good facilities and is in a great location - probably the best campsite in New Forest, because of this there's a downside. The site is always fully booked at the weekends and during school holidays.

There are lots of young families here and you're never too far from children, even at 8am in the morning. If your looking for peace and quiet this is not the place, despite the secluded location. Over the years the prices have increased substantially, I guess because of supply and demand.

If your looking for a great site and great location without peace and quiet then this is the site for you - as long as you're prepared to pay the money.

The facilities on this site are beyond reproach. Recently refurbished and excellent. We have just returned today from a long early May bank holiday break and are very pleased we followed the recommendations on UKCS.

The local pub/brewery, the 'Red Shoot', has excellent beers and on Sunday night we bagged a table for one of the regular bands. Wonderful entertainment and food; reasonable prices. As for the 'convenience store' open from 09:00 until 19:00, we can only praise the reasonable prices and excellent local produce; also lots of kit that always gets forgotten or packed in short supply such as gas cylinders and guys etc.

Because our rig is large (Outwell Norfolk Lake + kitchen tent) we were put in 'the paddock'. This was great, but an 'unofficial rally' had managed to get into the adjacent area and were very noisy on the Friday night, with the 'thud, thud' of football until 21:30 at night resuming at 06:45 in the morning. Also, despite a 'dogs only on leads' ruling, the 'rally dog' fouled our area very noisily at 04:55 in the morning and left an unwelcome calling card (waking the several babies near us who wailed from thereon). Sharing the paddock with young families with toddlers, and having all complained separately on the Saturday morning, the 'management' were quick to respond and all was well for the rest of our stay. You cannot blame the site for 'cleverly articulated' unofficial rallies, and judging by the 'farewell ceremony' on Sunday night this is one of their fortes!

This is an excellent site, not cheap (thank goodness!), so we will definitely visit again.

A good site for our first family trip ever, although fairly expensive at £35 a night for a family of 4 with EHU (£30 without). However, all New Forest sites seem to be expensive.

Arrived in great weather and friendly warden showed us to our grass pitch (they all are) and explained all the site facilities to us. Our pitch was slightly sloping (as about half of the site is) which was a bit disconserting at times.

Shower block was immaculate throughout our stay and never seemed busy despite the site being absolutely crammed full on a bank holiday weekend.

The shop was well stocked with a surprisingly large range of camping equipment (or maybe that's normal?) - they had basic airbeds, cutlery, gas canisters, instant BBQs etc and lots of those little odds-and-ends you might have forgotten (camping mirror, hooks etc, etc). Prices, as expected, were high but you could have stayed on site for your whole stay and just bought supplies from the shop, if necessary.

The kids playground is useful but a bit small and located right next to the entrance with cars going in and out. It is fenced off but would be better in the middle of the site somewhere.

The Red Shoot pub is just outside the site entrance and serves good value and reasonable food. It did get very busy (as it is the only place within walking distance) and you need to book a table at peak times.

The nearest town is Ringwood (10 mins drive) which has a Waitrose and other high-street shops.

The famous New Forest horses are kept off the site by a cattle grid which is a good thing - they look fun from a distance but close-up, they're pretty manky and there is horse pooh everywhere (as we found out when we went for a walk) - I personally wouldn't want that on site!

If the site hadn't been so busy (obviously not their fault), it would have felt very isolated as, apart from the pub, there is nothing for miles around.

In summary, great site, good basic facilities, isolated location, a little expensive but highly recommended otherwise.

Last minute booking so we were lucky to get in. Felt the site was fantastic. We were placed in a smaller section of the site which was perfect for us. Good facilities and shop was open all day with fresh bread, eggs and milk available. Staff were very friendly and helpful, giving advice on local camping shops as well as local amenities.

Site tends to get very quiet at approximately 10pm so be ready for an early night or a trip to the pub if you want to stay up.

Dogs need to be kept on a lead so come prepared.

Considered hiring bikes at the site for the day but decided against this as was fairly costly having to pay £15 each in addition to a deposit. However, well worth it if you plan to use them for the whole day rather than just a few hours!

Red Shoot Inn served lovely food and great live music on the Sunday night, something I understand happens every week.

You can literally walk out of the site into the forest which we loved, however found it very easy to get lost so take assistive tools with you!

Have booked to go again in April 09 so definitely a winner for us.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife and our dog.

Fantastic location with direct access to forest paths and tracks from the front of site. Ponies abound everywhere outside the site. We walked for hours with the dog which was wonderful.

The site itself is well laid out, with easy access to many water points around the site.

Toilet, shower, laundry block was excellent, cleaned thoroughly each lunchtime with ample toilets and showers, push button showers with good temperature water, good washing up area for tent campers, good elsan disposal point. Small shop which opened 1 hour per day as the site was relatively quiet. A small children's play are is located at front of the site.

The Red Shoot Inn adjacent the site serves good food, we ate there twice and its own micro brewery supplies lovely burnt hoppy flavour real ales dispensed by handpump. The muddy boot, a dark mild being my favourite.

The site however is quite pricey, our fees being £19 per night for unit dog & hookup in mid March, busier periods (weekends and hols) would rocket that to £29 per night plus extra for children.

We enjoyed our stay, would recommend the site and will definitely return. Good facilities but at a price which may be prohibitive for some, especially those with large families.

This was our second visit to Red Shoot - we also visited August 2006. The site is gently sloping - although you would be hard done by to actually be pitched on a noticeable slope. Caravans were allocated the obviously sloping pitches. Electric hook up is available on the pitches nearest to the entrance and facilities. We were on the farthest corner from the entrance, and it was only a short stroll to the toilet block, shop and dishwashing facilities.
There are plenty of water taps around the site. The toilet block has underfloor heating for the colder months, and was kept very clean. The shop has all the essentials and does a freezer block hiring service. £1.25 per block, with a £1 refund on return -very reasonable.
The entrance is through the car park of the Red Shoot Inn. The pub does a full english breakfast on Saturdays and Sundays and the usual selection of pub grub is available if you don't want to cook. It also brews it's own beer and has beer festivals twice a year! you can hire bikes from the campsite for £15 per day, or walk for free! It's easy to get to and is quiet, friendly and well worth a visit.

Quite basic site with very expensive shop and lot's of children. The pub at the entrance to the site served nice meals until 9pm in the evening and the horses often gathered outside the pub.
We cycled along a well-marked cycle route at the entrance to the site to a nice pub called the High Corner where we had a nice lunch. Tesco express is only a 5-10min drive away from the camp towards Ringwood which was handy.
Site is very quite in the evening with everyone going to bed around 10pm, although the pub has music at weekends until about 11pm. There was a lake not far away where fishing is free for under 16's and a ford close by where children can paddle. Overall a nice (but pricey!) site.

£96 for 3 nights (2 adults and 2 kids with hook-up).

This was our first visit and trip to a campsite ever, we purchased a secondhand campervan to see if we would like the experience as holidaying abroad has become such a pain with airports and all the hassle that goes with it. We picked this site as it's quite close to us so I could get the feel of it all before setting off further afield, after phoneing to see if they had site vacancies we were told by a very nice chap just come on down as they were quite quite at the moment.
On our arrival at the site we were treated very helpfully by a nice young lady who took all our details and booked us in then showed us to our pitch explained the hook up and where all the facilities were toilets, showers, washing up areas and shop.
My wife and I and especially our dog are very impressed toilets showers immaculate, grounds superbly kept no rubbish plenty of rubbish disposal points and as stated very quite after 10 30pm
Will visit again I am sure well done to all the staff and owners
