I stayed here on a last minute whim with my five year old for a quick weekend away to try out our new tent and had discounted Waldergraves done the road mainly due to the noise listed on the reviews here.
The site is grass and all pitches are level with a large number having electric hookup. The toilet block is immaculate with a large number of toilets and showers that you can enjoy whilst listening to the music that plays throughout the day in there. The site although very large is very quiet with little noise after about 10pm which suited us fine. We pitched right next to the children's play park which entertained children from 3-12 years old for hours on end.
There is a small shop on site although in the field adjacent there is a better shop that supplies all sorts of essentials and is reasonably priced.
There are wardens 24/7 on site and the staff are all friendly and helpful. A nice touch on arrival was my son being given a colouring pack and pencils.
The mainly pebble beach is a short walk along a footpath and there is a pub in walking distance (5mins) that serves good food at reasonable prices if you don't fancy cooking.
A really well run, managed and clean site that I will definitely be returning to again with the rest of my family.

Fantastic site. We visited with our friends for the Easter bank holiday. Friendly helpful staff. The wardens were helpful and full of local info and kept the toilets and showers spotlessly clean, warm and well maintained. Two great parks for the children to play in. Easy access to the beach. Site is well signed posted. Great value for money. Loads of birds, trees and green space. We really enjoyed our stay and will be back soon. Thank you fen farm.

This was a lovely site with a footpath directly to the beach.
It was well signposted from the main road and Reception was clearly marked with a parking area. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Being early season there was a good choice of pitches on the well laid out site. We were fortunate to get a sea view. The toilet block was immaculate with ultra clean showers, toilets and sinks. Also warm with background music. Dishwashing was in a clean and tidy laundry room with nice hot water. We would happily return to this site in the future.

I stayed at Fen Farm for 6 weeks in my 2 berth vintage caravan and I loved it! The site is really clean and tidy, the toilets have won awards! Everyone is so friendly and helpful too.
The location is lovely, peace and quiet with a good pub at the top of the road. The best bit for me is that there's no club house and the site is family run.
Although there isn't a shop on site, there's one just through the hedge and there are plenty of shops in West Mersea a couple of miles away.
The beach at the bottom of the site is brilliant, it's never busy, you can take dogs on it and it leads to Cudmore Grove which is a County park and full of birds and other wildlife.
I don't have Children so can't comment on that apart from they all seemed to enjoy the play areas and the beach. I do have two dogs and they loved it!
If you are coming to Mersea, you need to stay on Fen Farm.

Hello all. We have just returned from a Glorious 2 weeks on Mersea Island staying yet again at Fen Farm. Please note I should actually be leaving 3 reviews as this is the 3rd time we have stayed at Fen Farm this year, and we have another weekend booked in September.
No, we aren't retired and we don't get weeks and weeks of paid annual leave, we are just a normal family who invested in a caravan costing less than £2000 in order to make the most of our holidays together. We have a main 2 week holiday in the caravan, and manage to fit in a few extra weekends - all for a fraction of the cost of a week in Cyprus or even a cottage in Norfolk for a week!
It's not just that the site is only 35 minutes from my front door, it is in a glorious and idyllic location, the site is spotless, spacious and beautifully maintained, the food on the Island is fabulous (fresh fish, brewery, vineyard, oysters, real butcher etc), the kids love the water and the mud in equal measure AND that little corner of Essex has it's own special weather!
We are really dedicated to Fen Farm, having stayed for a few nights at Easter (when it snowed), May bank hol and our main family our Summer hol. I'm not saying we wouldn't stay anywhere else, but to be frank, as long as you're not after arcades and club-singers, Fen Farm would take a lot of beating.

I have just returned from a two night stay at Fen Farm. I have been to this site numerous times in the past but this is my first visit this year.
Fen Farm is in a lovely location with a short walk to the beach and the lovely pub just across the road.
The wash block is always spotless and seems to be cleaned regularly with nice hot showers at the touch of a button.
On arrival the lady in the office was as lovely as ever and told us to set up where ever we wanted. However for the first time ever I found that the top corner of the Berry field had been 'reserved' this is something they had never done in the past and something I was told we couldn't do. To make matters worse the one tent in this area was obviously awaiting their friends to arrive but weren't joined by anyone the entire time we stayed? The site was packed and this just caused units to pitch much closer than preferred.
We seemed to be much more 'packed' in then ever before and the other fields seemed to be the same. Of course when there is this many people living on top of one another I saw the odd argument and the general 'feel' for the site was much different to it was in previous visits. There wasn't as much room for kids to play ball games or the general feeling of open space.
I hope I just caught it at a bad time, but I doubt I will be back as there are better sites slightly further away which aren't £25 a night!

We have visited Fen Farm several times. It's a beautiful site - close to a beach, lovely walks and gorgeous food! We've been during school time, when it was very quiet, and over bank holidays when site was at full capacity. Even at full capacity we had loads of room around us, and never had any wait for toilets and showers. During one visit there we saved a porpoise that had been washed up on the beach! Amazing! Lovely site that we will continue to visit!

I stayed for two nights and it has been fantastic. The campsite is beautiful, the facilities are great, toilets and shower super clean and the people very nice. Plus it is a very short walk from the beach. I like to go back again.
We arrived late but the wardens were really kind and it was not a problem. The only downside probably is that there is not a shop on site but there is one nearby. It is good for kids too as there is a nice play area.

Great place to take the kids as it is all very friendly and the you if you are in the field where the play area is you can see them from the tent.
My kids were 6, 4 and 1 when we went with a few other days. It was so good we actually took their mum back there for her first camping experience.
Would recommend, but just don't pitch up too close to the play area although it should close at 9pm.
Facilities were spotless.

We went back to Fen Farm for 6 weeks in Sept and October including half term! No disappointments!
We had originally booked for just one weekend in Sept, and always intended to go back for the Autumn half term, but managed to negotiate leaving the van on the pitch for an extended period, at a very acceptable price. Hence we were able to enjoy an extra 5 weekends and a whole week.
Site is just friendly and tranquil. Facilities are all that you really need (and what they offer, they offer very well!). After all - you shouldn't really come to a tranquil rural island expecting round the clock cabaret, funfairs and bingo.
We all LOVE the walks, we like the beachcombing, we like watching the barges, we like mucking about in the mud! We like the country park, we like the Pub, we like the seafood, we like the idea of being within a mile of a brewery & vineyard! One day we will get round to eating our seafood at The Company Shed, buying our fish from Mersea Fresh Catch, and catching the foot-ferry to Brightlingsea.
We'll try to fit those things in on one of our many future visits to Fen Farm.
By the way, this is our 2nd review of Fen Farm and we also live less than 20 miles away!
