We stayed at Fen Farm for one night over a weekend.
This is a great site. Mersea Island is a bit off the beaten track and renown for food and sailing, so this is a quiet area with no nightlife.
The site is spacious and well laid out, used by family groups and couples. The facilities are kept clean and the service is pleasant. An added bonus is that there is a pub within two minutes walk, then the beach within two minutes walk in the other direction. The kids playground is great for kids under ten.
We would highly recommend this site but would go for a longer period.

We use Fen Farm quite regularly due to the relaxed atmosphere and attitude of the staff. The toilet/shower facilites are kept to an exceptional standard even in busy periods. The site is dog friendly and dog owners respect this keeping four legged friends under control. There are many walks and outstanding beaches within easy reach, an excellent pub across the road and village shop within easy walking distance. We would recommend this site to anyone.

We have just spent 4 wonderful days at Fen Farm. The children loved the two play parks and spent hours crabbing in the nearby creeks. We went for lovely walks along the beach and almost reached Brightlingsea. The toilets and showers are fantastic. Extremely clean, always hot (the showers)and even have piped music! There is a washing up/laundry room with washing machines and tumble driers that are better than the ones I have at home.
There is a very relaxed atmosphere as it is a turn up and pitch anywhere site. Not regimented at all. The only downside to this is I expect summer is very busy and there may not be much room.
There are not any shops (or anything really) within walking distance, but less that 2 miles away is West Mersea with a Co-Op, a pharmacy, a Spar, a fantastic Indian/pizza/fried chicken take-away and a petrol station.
I highly recommend this site it is wonderful!

Just returned from a lovely weekend at this site. Lovely area, conservation area very pretty and great for kids to roam in. Site very welcoming, staff friendly and helpful. Shower block large and relatively clean considering the volume of visitors at the site. Only thing, no one seemed to like was the piped music in the shower/loo block. Short walk to lovely beach, sand, shells, pebbles and mud for the mucky boys to squelch in! Nice shops in West Mersea, butchers, bakers etc so no need to take food, nice local pub too. Great time. Thanks!

A really lovely site, helpful and friendly staff, lots of toilets, clean showers and yes the piped music gave them a certain ambiance! Flat pitches and well maintained grounds. Reasonable at £19.00 per night. There were 5 of us, 2 adults and 3 children 7,4 & 10 months. We were right next to the play park, children would have happily spent all day on the site, but the beach is 10 minutes away and full of interesting shells etc plus swimming is good when the tide is in. The Island Brewery is 5 minutes in the car - beer comes highly recommended by my husband. You can drive down to West Mersea in the early evening, get fish and chips and then sit on the pontoon with a crab line where there are always families doing the same thing. We also saw moon jelly fish, prawns and a seal begging for bacon. The kids were in heaven - and its all free ! So a great site and a great location for families - maybe chose a more isolated pitch if you don't want to hear children giggling from 7am to 10pm. Also pick up a free tide time table from the office as the road to the island can sometimes be covered in water during the highest tides.

This was our second visit to this wonderful site as we had enjoyed the first visit so much. The facilities are superb, there is a choice of fields to pitch on and the location is close to the beach for wandering along exploring.
The beach was too sharp for our dogs' comfort but there are plenty of inland walks to do, including finding the island brewery and winery.
There is plenty of fresh fish of amazing quality and variety to buy on the island too. If you want to satisfy more historic leanings, Colchester is close by and Suffolk is within easy reach.

Just got back from a very relaxing weekend. This site is only 1/2 hour from our storage so will now use it as a quick get away. Best facilities lots of showers so no Qs. Music in toilet block was a bit strange sometimes. No club house which we prefer. Nice play area the kids told us and beach only a few mins walk, they have an outside shower which came in handy for all the children who had been playing in the mud when the tide went out.

Very nice site. Was very tidy and the toilet facilities were new and very clean. Close to the beach and the local pub was great. However the distance to West Mersea was a little disappointing, it certainly isn't within walking distance and you definitely need a car. However there are benefits to this such as the tranquil location of this part of the island and the beautiful country park just up the road. Would definitely go back!

We visited fen farm for the second time in July. The owners are very helpful, offering information about tides etc on arrival. There is a nice park with swings slides etc on the static sight but also in the corner of one of the fields- which we were staying in, was a new climbing frame with slides, climbing wall etc. This was great as we had 7 children between the 3 families who stayed and could see them from our pitch. There are plenty of toilets which are always spotlessly clean and showers always hot. There is slso a family room with a shower, toilet and sink but you need to obtain a key for this. There is an indoor washing up area where again the water was also hot. A mobile shop comes to the sights morning and afternoon which was great! The seafront is a few minutes walk away-couldnt really call it a beach as there is not much sand but the kids loved it anyway and they all had a swim in the sea. The owners told us the best time of day to swim, when the sea was warm We were not rushed off the site on the last day and electric hook was no extra. Highly recommended

Nice site if you want a 'no-frills' break. Owners very helpful and site clean and tidy. Had to pitch our tent between 2 caravans to get a sea view [over the hedge and across a wheat field]. Good hot showers, plenty of toilets and cleaned regularly. Only real criticism was the timing of the cleaning of the shower / toilet block - 10am on Sunday and 8.30 am on Monday ! Beach is mainly shells and mud flats -great dog walking but not much fun if children want to play.
