On holiday with my family and 2 young children. Had a wonderful time. Facilities were clean and well looked after. It was nice to see very clean showers for a change (well done).

Staff friendly and helpful, most campers were very nice, considerate and polite (although there were a couple of inconsiderate campers, noisy at times and not giving enough space to fellow campers).

My children thoroughly enjoyed their holiday. We went crabbing, visited a few places in old colchester town and plenty of places to eat if you did not want to stay on site.

There were a few dogs off their leads but were fully under control by their owners. My children loved playing with one of the dogs in particular. Very friendly and well behaved border collie.

There is a small village shop and couple of minutes drive or will probably take about 15 minutes on foot, supplied most essentials but quite expensive. There is a Co-op and small tesco express in west mersea, worth driving to for cheaper items.

The beach is 2 minutes walk through the park, which is mainly shingle. You can walk to the country park which is a further 5 minutes via the beach and further on is the foot ferry to brightlingsea.

Overall, we had a really lovely relaxed holiday. Will definitely return.

We stayed for a long (windy) weekend with our 7 children. Although we weren't on site much we very much liked it. It had everything we needed and was clean and friendly :D Bonus that it was only a short walk to the beach!

We pitched right next to the little play park too, so that the children could be busy when we were

Loved that it was a flat rate charge too ~ so difficult to find and such a must with a big family!

Would definitely camp at Fenn Farm again.

I have stayed on this site twice, each time for a weekend.

Fen Farm is a very nice site, popular with families with small children.

Three fields to choose from, very relaxed about where you can pitch, electric is available

It has excellent shower/toilet facilities, clean and warm with piped music.

There is a play area for the children and enough space to play ball games. The staff were also very nice and helpful.

The beach is a short walk away, and there is an award winning nature reserve next door.

The town of West Mersea is a short drive away, with shops, pubs and take-aways.

There is a nice local pub a short walk away which serves good food.

My last visit was just myself and five year old grandaughter, we both had a lovely time.

Enjoyed a two night stay at Fen Farm over a weekend in the summer holidays and although the site was fully booked, it did not feel crowded at all!

Reception was friendly and the pitching regime very laid back. The fields were spacious which meant you enjoyed a lot of privacy.

Facilities were modern and clean. Liked the idea of radio 2 being played in the toilet block.

Two nice play areas for the kids and a big playing field near the main road for kite flying/ footie etc.

Short walk to the beach and country park.

Great place to unwind and let the kids have fun. A short drive takes you to civilisation and East Mersea with a tesco express, few shops and takeaways and the Oyster bar (worth a visit for seafood fans but make sure you have deep pockets!)

Any cons to the site? Well, I noticed litter blown into the hedges around the site especially in the play area - perhaps this is tidied weekly? but it did look unsightly.

Just spent a weekend at Fen Farm. We were looking forward to our camping trip due to the good reviews we read on UKCampsite.co.uk

We were three families camping together. We paid £20 deposit per pitch and paid the remainder on arrival. The reception staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. All the staff that we encountered were extremely friendly and helpful.

Probably the friendlies reception that we have ever encountered. We were given a map of the campsite, a tag to hang on the tent and told to pitch anywhere. We chose the Berry field as it was quieter than the others. People basically just pitched where they liked but everyone used common sense which was good.

The site was fully booked for the weekend but it did not feel crowded or too busy. There are ample toilet and shower facilities and also a family bathroom (no bath though) and a disability bathroom. The toilets and showers were very muddy and dirty in the mornings but were cleaned by midday. I think the state of some of the showers were more due to inconsiderate campers.

There is also a wash up area which contains two sinks, a sink for clothes washing, two washing machines and two driers. There is a small freezer in this room that can be used to re-freeze your ice blocks.

The usual 11pm no-noise rule applies and most people adhered to this.

There was a fenced off children's playground (no kids in there after 9:30pm) which all the children loved, including our two little ones.

The campsite is a 3min walk to the beach. Low tide is not very inspiring but it was pretty at high tide when all the mud and sludge were covered. There is also a reservation are within a few minutes walk but it rained quite a lot so we never visited.

It's probably one of the least inspiring campsites that we have visited and I doubt that we would return. We though it quite expensive for what you get compared to other campsites.

Anyone intending to go - the ground is very hard in some spots so take decent tent pegs. You can buy rock pegs at reception though.

A very spacious site, good for families, with a good play area and lots of open space. The facilities are more than adequate, with enough showers and toilets that I never saw any queues, and plenty of hot water for the showers and sinks for washing up. There is also a freezer for ice packs. There are also washing machines and tumble dryers, although you have to pay to use these.

There are quite a lot of kids and teenagers at the site and it is quite noisy well into the evening. I also have to say that I wouldn't recommend the site if you are looking primarily for a beach holiday: although the beach is only a few minutes walk away, it is largely covered in pebbles and shells so there is very little sand. Also the sea is only accessible for a few hours at high tide.

For the remainder of the time there are long mud flats which you can't walk on, and the sea is barely visible a long way off, so if the high tide doesn't happen to coincide with the sunny part of the day then you might not get in the sea. Also there are quite a lot of jellyfish which didn't prove to be a problem but might put some people off.

Despite these reservations we had a lovely holiday, though to me it seems to me slightly expensive for what is on offer.

We visited Fen Farm at a cold and windy time of year. We were warned to stay out of one boggy field, which was fine, and located ourselves in the middle of a larger field.

The site was clean, and the 11pm rule observed. The toilet facilities were always very clean at all times of the day and there was a lot of hot water.

They have an arrangement with their refuse collectors so that all rubbish goes in one bin and gets sorted at the refuse company for recycling.

There's a beach on it's doorstep. The only complaint was that on some nights were could here the noise of the entertainments complex of a nearby park, but it wasn't too loud.

Recommended.

Lovely campsite great for the kids and good on our pockets as there are no shops on site, but it easy enough to go to shops in mersea if need be.

Site is kept very clean and staff very polite.

Pub just down the road and also a local shop with most items you would need for a break away.

Shower and toilet blocks extremely clean due to the hard work of of the very friendly girl who cleans them, she seems worth here weight in gold,as with other sites we have been on just lately you get put you off when facilities aren't clean.

Would definitely go back again and again.

We stayed for the weekend and had a really good time. Good spacious pitches that you pick yourself. Facilities really clean and tidy and kept that way all day. Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely walks down to the beach, which you could happily spend the day on if the British weather permits. Play area good for the children and no clubhouse, which suits us.

Overall a good site which we will go to again in the future.

We have just returned from 3 weeks at Fen Farm. Feelings are very mixed - lots of positives, so we'll start with them. The area is beautiful, very laid back with the relative isolation of East Mersea contrasting nicely with the busy town of West Mersea.

We really enjoyed the beach: other reviewers have mentioned the mudflats and the shingle, but we liked the 'wild' feeling of the beach and enjoyed some early morning bird watching while the dog careered about. The beach is less than ideal for sandcastles and paddling, though. Our youngest daughter loved the play area and our eldest daughter loved chillin' during the day when it was quiet.

However, I don't really understand why you are given a list of rules when you arrive as none of them seem to be enforced: we had problems with noise at night, units seemed worryingly close together, and no-one ever seemed to clean up after themselves which meant the loos and showers were frequently in a mess.

Fen Farm is in a lovely area, and I'd like to see this campsite tightened up - at present it seems to be little more than a cash cow for the owners.
