Just back from 3 nights camping in our tent.
The site is large, clean and tidy, the staff are friendly, the toilet block has just won 'Best Loo Award 2011' and we can see why, they are immaculately clean and the music is a nice touch.
Although there is no site shop, this is not a problem as there is a village shop within walking distance and there is a Tesco Express which is open until 11pm in West Mersea (only a 10 minute drive. )
We'll definitely return.

Just returned from 2 excellent weeks spent at Fen Farm. The weather was a bit mixed the week before the Bank Holiday but the second week was glorious.
Sometimes when you return to a site you are concerned that the standards may not be as you remembered them, none of us could say that about Fen Farm, excellent facilities, plenty of hot water, toilet block cleaned and checked periodically during the day every day.
The maintenance staff were busy every day, if they weren't pruning hedges or trees, they were tidying the grounds and clearing any litter. The main big bins were cleared every couple of days, never left to overflow with waste.
The adjacent campsite allowed campers at Fen Farm to use their camp shop, this was new for us, it meant a short walk to collect daily papers and unfortunately for the waist line they also produced fresh bread baked on the premises!
The local pub the Dog and Pheasant was still serving the same high standard of food with the same pleasant hospitality as last year, they have a Quiz night the first and third Wednesday every month, well worth a visit.
The Oyster Bar at West Mersea is also well worth visiting for exceptional fish and chips, try a half lobster in garlic with chips it's wonderful.
Overall the staff and the campsite are excellent, talking to others on the site who have been before apparently the standards are alway high. Well done Fen Farm.

We came home yesterday and consisted of 2 tents with 6 adults & 5 children and all of us had a fantastic time.
The initial impressions were very good as the site looked welcoming and was equalled by the greeting in the reception from the staff. We we're told we could pitch anywhere and chose the 1st field with the children's play area in. I had asked for 2 pitches together and when told to just look around and if not come back to the office this did put me off a bit because there was obviously no guarantee that you could camp together which rather defeated the object. But we we're able to pitch in the middle of the field which still left loads of room for children to play ball games etc.
The toilets & showers were very clean and we never had to queue even though it was half term. The radio was always playing in the toilets which was really nice and there was always hot water. Even though we were in the ''playground'' field it was never rowdy or too noisy and all the children seemed to adhere to the 9.30 curfew in the playground.
There were loads of children there but at night I found it very quiet and the other campers seemed considerate to others. There is a shop on the adjoining site which sold necessities but we used the Tesco Express in West Mersea and also the butchers in W Mersea was fabulous with the most amazing burgers & kebabs for our BBQ.
The beach near the site was awful but if you come out of the site & turn right Cudmore Grove is about 3 mins away with a lovely country Park & beach. Also the Oyster bar in West Mersea is a must with the seafood platter being to die for.All in all a great, clean, friendly site that I would thoroughly recommend to anyone.ENJOY

We have just returned home from a great Bank Holiday weekend at Fen farm. We were first time campers but the friendly and helpful reception staff made us feel at ease straight away.
Our children loved the play park and made new friends immediately while we set about pitching the tent. We were able to pitch within sight of the play park so could relax while keeping an eye on the kids.
There is a very relaxed attitude to where you can pitch and this seemed to work very well.
The shower blocks were very clean and very well maintained and we never had to wait. Hairdryers are 20p.You can keep freezer blocks in a freezer in the laundry room free of charge.
It could get a little noisy at night between around 9 and 10.30pm as a few teenagers descended on the play park ( which had been vacated by all the younger children by the official closing time of 9.30). This could bother some people but our kids slept through it and with our radio on low we were able to ignore it until the teenagers got bored and went back to whichever field they were from. The benefit of being near the play park during the day far outweighed any nuisance noise.
We visited the Dog and Pheasant pub and found it to be friendly and with good service. Can't comment on the food. West Mersea was a nice afternoon excursion but apart from that we stayed on the site and soaked up the relaxing atmosphere. We can't wait to return.

My friend highly recommended this site, as he used to live around the corner. I met him and his family there on the Friday evening, as soon as we got out the car, his kids and mine made a bee-line for the park, which was great, we pitched on the same field so we could keep and eye on them.
Kids loved the park, us adults loved the peace.
The site itself is very quite, no road noise, other campers where quite to, lovely and relaxing!
Toilet block large and clean, family wash room (£10 deposit) only down side to the family room, is no bath, my 3 year old doesn't like showers.
West Mersea is about 10 min drive away, it has most things one could want.
All in all a great site, we will be back

We were at this site over the Easter weekend and were lucky to have had wonderful weather. This is the second time we have been here and will certainly come again.
The site consists of 4 fields, with / without electric. The shower block is modern and clean. All shower facilities were free which is a real bonus not being timed of having to save correct coinage for meters. Being Easter weekend the site was full but not once did we have to queue for any facilities.
The other campers were all very friendly. I believe this atmosphere was enhanced by the fact you can pitch where you like and so choose a spot to suit you, be it near or far from facilities and the kids play park.
The play park is great for kids up to around 10 years old. For older children there is a footpath to the beach which they could then explore.
There was an ice cream van that came around in the evenings and a local shop on wheels that sold basic provisions including newspapers, bread etc in the mornings.
The Dog and Pheasant pub at the end of the road was also fantastic. We managed to get 4x roast dinners and pudding (2 adults 2 children) and drinks for £40.

Lovely site, clean and friendly. There are four fields to choose from, one has a children's play area which is great for those with children.
Nice walk to the beach away from traffic. 10 minute walk to Cudmore park along the beach.
For some odd reason I did have a hot and cold shower but I'm the only one! We would and will most certainly return.

This site is the second site we have camped on and the first with our new tent! we found the campsite wonderful, we loved the warmth of the toilet/shower blocks (welcomed as it was very cold when we went) they also had a radio station playing which was also nice.
There is also an inside washing up area (also warm) which also housed industrial sized washing machines and tumble dryers for your use for a certain amount of money. There is also a disabled toilet/shower and a family room which I used (you have to obtain a key for a refundable £10.00 deposit) the room was ok it had a toilet, shower and a baby changing table, however I would have preferred a bath as I have small children (three under three) and this would have been slightly more less stressful but that's just me others may find a shower ok.
All the showers by the way were lovely and warm. There are I think three fields to choose from (you can choose where to go) we chose the field with the children's playground in so we could keep an eye on our kids we can set up where you like and the field we were on were nice and flat.
The playground was great fun for the kids with swings for babies and older children a climbing frame and a see saw thing. We had electric hook up and I liked the fact that there were various taps around the field.
There is a footpath which leads to the beach (which is mostly stones but some sandy bits). As some people have said before there is a shop a little way down the road but there is a tesco express and co-op on the other side of the island which we used to stock up on! all in all a great campsite and will be going back next year(hopefully will be warmer next time)!

We have just returned from a weekend spent at this camp site. We have a 10-man tent & we are a family of 5. We went with 4 other families & there were 26 of us in all - one of us had a caravan.
We were allowed to pitch where we liked & we had no problem being all together. We pitched in a big circle with a gazebo in the middle. We had a fantastic time!
The kids loved the site & cycled round exploring. They also loved the play area. The facilities are great - very clean. Two of the families made use of the family shower room.
The beach is only a short walk away & we went there twice. We would definitely return. The site had a nice atmosphere.

What a really nice welcome from the staff upon arrival. Loads of space between pitches, never felt over looked, massive spaces for kids to play, but best of all was the ice creams in the early evening, only 5 minutes to walk to the sea, beach not that child friendly but no fault of Fen Farm. Toilet block was what looked like it was always being cleaning, just down the road was a great house selling home grow produce plums, toms and veg. Can't think of anything to fault this site best I've ever been too (have been camping last 4 years 3/4 times per year).
