This is a lovely site near the beach. The toilet/shower block are fantastic, very clean and a good size.

The staff were very friendly and the site was divided up so you didn't have to be too close to the playground!

The local shop is 2 mins drive and well stocked but West Mersea with Tescos and Co-op is only 5 mins drive. Apparently there will be a shop on site from next year.

The local pub is 5 mins walked and looked very pleasant indeed.

Spent 2 nights there. Pitches spacious, although that could have been because the site was not very busy. Very cordial welcome and the regime was relaxed - 'just drive around and find a pitch you like'.

Amenity block more than adequate and spotless.

The site is well situated for peace and quiet, with not much in the near locality.

'Safe' children's play area.

Plenty of scope for walkers/cyclists and a very good country park on the doorstep.

Particularly recommend the sea wall walk that goes for miles towards West Mersea.

Nearest pub - Dog and Partridge - a short walk away. We did not avail ourselves of the facilities; deterred by some of the prices.

Nearest village shop less than a mile away.

Down side? - Not sure the location/amenities warrant the price!

We just got back and what a great site! We had a great pitch (you choose the pitch) - just opposite the loos /showers and next to the play area. We had EHU. Lovely site, clean loos (dirty early this morning but we left early and I am sure they will be cleaned as we seen cleaners twice yesterday). We were very impressed and will go back for a weekend again. Nothing in Mersea (East or West) so could not stay for longer. Overall great site - would recommend

Very nice site and not noisy. Nothing fancy just good fields, clean facilities and friendly staff. Calour and gaz available on site.

We have been 4 times, a week at a time, and aim to go back in 2011 because it is only 40 minutes by car from home.

The pub near the site does good food and is an easy walk through the site.

Mersea has everything you need with good food and drinks in pubs and cafes. Bogmoor grove is very pleasant as are walks around the island.

Just returned from a weekend here. A lovely site. Close to the beach and close to a pub. Spacious even when fully booked. You can choose where to pitch which is great for those of us who like to be somewhere quiet. The field called Owls Retreat was ideal for us. There was a good size playground in another field which was a child magnet!

There were plenty of showers and toilets and they were kept clean. There is no on site shop but a van from the village store comes with essentials - bread, milk, papers etc. Will definitely return next year and stay for longer.

Lovely campsite, with very friendly people. Facilities are extremely clean, with loads of hot water. Lovely area for walking, or relaxing and with a good sized play area for the children. Walking distance to the local pub - which allows dogs into the bar, and to the beach - where at low tide you can find oysters washed up.

Highly recommend a visit to the other side of the island, West Mersey to a fish specialist called the Company Shed - fresh excellent local catch, and the best prawns we've ever tasted!

Highly recommended campsite.

Have been visiting Fen Farm for 4 years now and is our favourite campsite.

The staff are friendly and the campsite is a great escape from the stresses of working life. The site is small but there is plenty of room to pitch a tent without being on top of another camper.

Out of the 8 or 9 times we have visited I can honestly say that there has been only one occasion when the site was totally booked up and felt cramped (it was a Bank holiday also).

There are no pre-determined pitches so you have the freedom to pitch almost anywhere, depending on whether you need EHU. The water taps are dotted around the site also. As its a small site, there are plenty of toilets and showers for all - we have never had to queue and the water is always hot. They are always clean and tidy and well stocked.

If I had to find any fault I would say that there weren't enough washing up sinks (only 2 inside and 1 outside.)

There is an outside shower which is ideal for rinsing off the mud from the beach when the tide is out - its amazing what the kids are prepared to cover themselves in when crabbing or fishing.

The site has a small playground area which is always popular with the kids. Ours are now young teenagers and they still go the the park to make friends etc.

It also has the advantage of being very close to the beach and it is a pleasant walk to the Country Park.

There is a small shop outside the site but we tend to drive into the town and use either the Co-op or Tescos Express for provisions. There is an icecream van that visits the site most evenings and the icecream is wonderful!

All in all an unspoilt site with excellent facilities and very reasonable charges.

My husband and I (in our early 30's, no kids) booked Fen Farm for a quick 2-night getaway, never having camped before and knowing nothing about Mersea. We were in for a complete treat! Utterly wonderful island - clean, pretty, unspoilt, quiet, friendly people etc.

The campsite is perfectly situated at the quiet end of the island, within a stunning nature reserve. We were back-packing so we walked to Fen Farm from the bus stop in West Mersea - we thought it'd be a nightmare but it was only 40 mins.

The campsite itself is great - incredibly friendly, lovely co-campers, unobtrusive and helpful staff, laid-back but well-run, clean, comfortable, green, near beach.

Whilst it's perfect for couples, it was also great for the families with kids - it was 1/2 term week so there were lots of happy nippers on site enjoying the great play area etc. All of them were well-behaved and lovely.

My husband and I have been under lots of pressure lately but our stay at Fen Farm felt like a little piece of heaven away from the real world.

Although the site was fully booked, there was still lots of room for everyone - such a difference compared to some sites I have stayed on. There were ample ehu and water stands, and the facilities were generally excellent. The weather was decidedly mixed, but that's not the site's fault!

We were camping with friends (4 adults, 7 children) and everyone thoroughly enjoyed crabbing off the jetty in West Mersea (hundreds of crabs!) and visiting the Food and Drink festival at the vineyard in East Mersea (lots of free samples, hic). As for shops, the co-op and Tesco in East Mersea were ample for our needs over the weekend.

I hoped from reading the reviews before I booked that I would like the site, and I think I can honestly say, it is one of my favourites. The island is gorgeous, and the site has everything you could ask for.

We all had a great time. The people on the site were very friendly and helpful.

The toilets and showers were very clean and with loads of hot water.

We have two young sons and pitched next to the play area. This was great as we could keep an eye on them and stay at the tent.

The site was very quiet after about 11 pm, and our boys slept very well.

The wife was very worried about camping with the boys as the youngest is one, but we had such a good time we can't wait to go again.
