What an excellent site! I can only agree with all the other reviews on here, it spoke for itself this weekend 12 to 14 June, it was full and Alan was turning units away. As he said himself other campsites would squeeze them in somewhere but he's not interested in that. If we get the summer we are promised I would definitely recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment. The showers were always clean my four year old son loved the playing field he only came back to us when he was hungry. He wants to go back there again, so do we, that's the only problem we've got now we will be comparing this site to all future sites.
Pat and Alan are lovely people and no matter how busy they were they found time to stop and have a chat.
This site was only £10 a night which I shouldn't say in case Pat reads it on here but they are definitely not charging enough! I can't wait to visit this site again.

Great little site. Owners Pat and Alan very helpful and knowledgeable about surrounding area. Facilities excellent and kept very clean. 3 showers in ladies and 2 wash cubicles. 3 toilets. Felt like caravanning in someone's garden as grounds kept immaculate with planting and a bench to sit on. Several hard standings for caravans. Most pitches were large, however ours was a bit tight for size of van, awning and car, but understand this one is being taken out and another larger one made in another part of site. Loads to see in area. Shrewsbury lovely town, plenty of Nat.Trust properties around. Good shop at local garage about 5 mins drive away. Park and ride into Shrewsbury not far and very good service. Site set in lovely peaceful countryside.
Have already recommended it to friends.

Very pretty, small site with exceptionally clean toilet block (cleaned at least twice a day). Friendly owners. Most pitches separated by hedging. Electric hook-ups to all 31 pitches, some pitches larger than others, good idea to state size of unit when booking. Playground for children. Must be noted for motorhomes/campervans that you cannot get near to taps to fill directly so you need a water container, also no waste water disposal point for motorhomes/campervans so need waste water container. There are a couple of hard-standings for motorhomes but not large enough to erect awning. Very convenient for Shrewsbury park & ride, Ironbridge, Welshpool (Powis Castle & steam railway). No shop or pub within walking distance, nearest shop mile and half away. Plenty of large supermarkets within short drive, also takeaway and small Co-op nearby(next to park & ride)

This was our first visit to Cartref and we have nothing but praise for Pat and Alan, the owners of the site. The toilets/shower block was meticulously clean, with fresh flowers to add a lovely touch. Whilst we were there both Pat and Peter were out all day cutting the grass (I don't know where they get their energy from)! The pitches are a really good size and there is a separate huge field for the children, with swings, a small pitch for playing a game of football and a basket ball hoop. This field is also available for dog walking. The site holds about 35 caravans. If you want a bit of peace and quiet then this is the ideal place to visit. The only thing we heard at night was a few owls hooting. The garage with a shop attached is literally a five minute drive and stocks anything that you may need. If you do decide to visit Cartref, see if you can find the birds nest on one of the trees in the shape of a caravan!

We camped at Cartref for our first camping trip with a young family. What a lovely site. The owners, Pat and Alan, are lovely and work constantly to keep the facilities immaculately clean and have a wealth of information about the local area. We got a puncture in our airbed on the first night and Pat kindly loaned us a spare. The site is quite remote and you would need a car to get to the nearest shop (there is not one on site) but the children loved being surrounded by cows and sheep. The play area in an adjacent field is a little tired looking but there is plenty of space for children to run around and also some goal posts for any footballers. We were surprised at how nice the area is and intend to go back to explore the area more fully when we can.

Just come back from Cartref and must say that it was a fantastic campsite and excellent value for money. We decided to visit after reading the already excellent reviews and wasn't disappointed. We got a bit lost on the way in and was guided in by Alan. We arrived and was greeted warmly by Alan who showed us to our pitch and explained everything. We were surprised when we were asked what newspaper we required for in the morning and sure enough the next morning our newspaper was by our back door. Toilet and shower facilities spotless and plenty. Radiators kept on through the night so were always warm. Very friendly campsite and would definitely recommend to anyone seeking a small campsite with lots of peace and quiet. Lovely surrounding areas to go and get lost in. Convenient garage and supermarket 5 mins away. Lovely owners and fellow campers on this site!

An excellent campsite not a bad word to say about it. Really good value for money at £9 a night. The site itself was lovely very nicely laid out gardens and a seperate childrens play area and a dog walk. The facilities were excellent, very clean toilet and shower block with plenty of free hot water, showeroom was lovely and warm and vases of lovely fresh flowers to decorate the room. There was also a utility room with washing machine and dryers for a small fee, there was also a freezer which you could use for your ice blocks free of charge.
The owners were very nice people very welcoming and extremely helpful, gave us loads of info about the surrounding area and places of interest to visit. Shropshire is a beautiful county in particular Shrewsbury was a lovely place to visit. We would definitely stay at this site again. We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay and would reccomend it to anyone.

Really great site.
Very good location for any regular Swansea to West Yorkshire drivers who need to stopover.
Good size (35 pitches), easy to find, and very friendly welcome for me and my border collie.
Dog walk adjacent to site is good. Off-lead walk nearby would be good too.
Toilet and shower block really clean.
Generally nicely laid out and when the trees mature between the pitches it will be fantastic.
Definitely recommend to others and will return in future

What a little gem this site is. Immaculately clean and tidy with a 3 yr old shower block that is always kept spotlessly clean. The pitches are a good size and look out onto beautiful flower beds. The owners are very welcoming and very helpful and ensure that everything is ok for you. There is a separate field where children can play which is great as this avoids any issues of children and footballs etc round the pitches.
The site is situated 5 miles outside Shrewsbury and is in a perfect location for visiting Llangollen, Ludlow etc. And only a mile from the park and ride for Shrewsbury. The owners are a wealth of local knowledge and will supply as much information as possible of any town or attraction that they can.
A brilliant little site and we will be back there next year as so many others do !
