The problem with giving this site a good review is that it may be full in the future when I want to visit again, but I need to be honest……. We arrived to a very warm welcome from Pat and Alan who own the site, the pitch sizes are reasonable with most being level. A sky signal can be achieved on 90-95% of the pitches with just a few trees that may cause problems for some people. The site is generally free from any road noise due to its location and any noise you do hear is from birds and cows. The toilet block is kept in an immaculate condition as are the site grounds and planted area, the toilets are normally cleaned in the afternoon so if you fancy a lie in there is no rushing to the toilet block at 9.30am before closing! The current per night charges are a very reasonable £9 per night, plus £2 electricity, plus 50p per child over 5 years. On several occasions the kids went for a walk with Pat and her dogs around the large field/play area adjacent to the camp. The large field is great for ball games away from caravans and also has to goals setup “this end” of the field. It is large enough also for kite flying and other sports however parents need to ensure the wind is blowing the correct way as although the field is large it does have one power line running along the road edge of the field. Recently bushes have been planted to separate most pitches, these are starting to develop and provide a nice layout to the site. So is their anything wrong with the site? Well the only two small items I can think of, firstly the entrance to the site is a little tight but you do only use this twice with the caravan attached and secondly is that the children’s play equipment is a little dated and “domestic”. A new swing and small slide set in bark chippings would be fantastic for the kids to play on. However the many good points far outweigh these 2 little niggles. We will defiantly be visiting the site again.

This is a fabulous little campsite set in the beautiful countryside near Shrewsbury. The owners were very welcoming and friendly, shower block and toilets spotless, good size pitches and good security. Pat & Alan have planted out borders between and in front of the pitches which made it feel like camping in their back garden! A short walk (1.25 miles) along very pretty rural roads to a local garage selling basic groceries, papers etc. Information hut alongside toilet block stuffed full of leaflets and maps of local attractions, books and magazines to borrow etc. Nicest site we've ever been to.

What a great camping and caravan site. The site is very clean and tidy. Access is good all round the site including into and out of the site. The toilets and showers are without a doubt immaculate. One of the best ever. The owners are willing and helpful. The information hut next to the shower block is a minefield of things to do, places to go, places to eat, etc etc We were so impressed we are going back for sept / oct it really is worth the visit.
Dont go and you miss out !

We have just got home from spending 15 nights at Cartref Caravan Site, during the worst 2 weeks summer weather we have ever seen. We arrived to a warm welcome from Pat and Alan, who helped us to settle on to our pitch. The site facilities were excellent, immaculately clean and very well planned out. During the bad weather, the toilet/shower block was always spotless and fresh flowers were always displayed in the ladies toilets. The washing-up areas were well thought out and user friendly. On many occasions we experienced Pat and Alan's willingness to help ourselves, and other campers, cope with the rainy, muddy conditions, to the extent of taking our Son's wellies into their home to dry! We had a wonderful, peaceful, restful holiday (despite the floods) in this county haven. We plan to return before the end of the season and are already planning our summer holiday next year (especially as Alan has promised that the weather will be better!) Thanks Pat and Alan, you are true stars!

We stopped at this little gem of a campsite for just one night on our way down to Cornwall from Scotland. It is just a few miles outside Shrewsbury, and about an hour from Chester.
We had a very friendly welcome, a nice well-drained level pitch close to the toilets, as we had requested in our booking. It is on a back road, so it is nice and quiet. The toilet and shower block were first rate, plenty of hot water, good showers, and free hair dryer in the ladies, as well as curtained off washing cubicles, which were a nice touch, as well as the fresh flowers!
The owner has a nice little information hut, and every morning he puts the weather forecast up along with details of markets, events etc that are on for that day.
The only criticisms were that the pitches were quite close together, although we had sufficient room for our 9-man tent and car; and there was nothing really for children there. However, he seems to be working very hard on improving the site so I have no doubt that these are items that will be redressed in the future! All in all, I would heartily recommend it, especially if you are touring that part of the country, close to Chester, Shrewsbury, Welshpool, etc.
I plan to go back maybe for a long weekend or a short break, to explore Chester and Shrewsbury and the surrounding countryside.

We have just got back from cartef today after a very nice few days there. Pat and Alan were very nice and very helpful and pat even let me walk one of the two dogs. The toilet and free shower block were the best I have ever been in. There was a nice play area for us kids. I really enjoyed my stay there and hope my mom and dad take me there again. Well done Pat and Alan. Daniel aged 13.

This site is in a quiet part of Shropshire but not very far from Shrewsbury and Welshpool. Great site and the owners, Pat and Alan, were extremely welcoming and helpful. Despite the weather being awful we had an enjoyable few days. This was our first venture out with our own [first] caravan and Alan came out to offer his advice and assistance pitching the caravan. When I had a small problem with an on-board water tank overflowing Alan went to the trouble, without being asked, of calling one of his seasonal pitch-holders to get some advice because he had the same caravan. The site is immaculate and well tended and the showers and toilets are spotless. Some thoughtful touches such as little steps in the showers so you can keep off the wet floor when towelling down, toiletry holders on the back of shower curtains and fresh flowers in the toilets. All-in-all a great introduction to caravanning and one site we will definitely be going back to for another short break.

Stayed one night; the campsite looked fairly full however we never had to wait to use toilets or showers which were kept very clean and tidy.
Nice pitches with well cut grass. At £14 per night including electric hook up this has to be one of the best value sites around.
We found the campsite owners to be very friendly and helpful. They even gave us a call on our mobile after we had left the site to say we had left some trainers on the pitch, which was very much appreciated.
Would strongly recommend this site.

Well what can I say it is a fantastic site, Pat and Alan are great we arrived during the weekend of the floods it was thunder and lighting but didn't stop Alan getting soak helping me pitch up by the time id stopped he'd got the Jockey wheel down, the site is great, shower block is great newly built but maintained to a very high standard as is the rest of the site, information point is great Alan chalks the weather and things to do on the blackboard, rec lying bins a dog walk and a massive field for the kids to play in, in my opinion should be a SEVEN STAR site 5 for the site and one each for Alan and Pat, when we were there a couple in a tent had been flooded out so they gave them there own caravan to sleep in and dried all there equipment out for them, only one complaint you have to force them to take your money. a credit to them both and well worth a visit. We certainly will be back as soon as we can.

We came here for one night on the way home from South Wales. What a lovely site - so so cheap - £10 for two adults and two kids - we didn't pay for elec as we didn't need it. The site is maintained really well - lovely toilets and showers. The owners have put trellis up all round the block with vines etc - it's going to look great. If you coming to Shropshire then I would definitely recommend this site. The other field for games etc is great with a proper seesaw and swings and loads of room.
